so the revision company believes this will be the future soldier, comes with one of those battery powered movement enhancers that go on your legs, the outfit covers 60% of your body in armor, has a full face mask fitted helmet that is suspended from the back so it dosent weight down your head. What are your thoughts on it? wouldnt it be hell to have to wear all that in the desert, and wont the visor fuck with your ventilation? Imagining lugging that through the desert just sounds horrible, enhanced movement or not, and those only last around 6 hours.

How in fuck are you supposed to aim down your sights?

Additionally, you must be pretty new here.

Literally 2 years old news.
Yes, it's a "power armor" exo skeleton. It's aircooled. You can pad it with armor panels to make yourself a walking tank. You can also lug around a GPMG like it was a barbiedoll.

The battery tech improves all the time, and there's a high possibility that the suit itself will incorporate some sort of dynamo mechanisms, solar panel backups, etc. Most likely though, they will be / start as special purpose gear that are kept in vehicles and bases for SHTF situations, like building sweeps, guard duty, and short distance patrolling. Obviously will be handy in evacuation and S&R missions.

>>33989582
High-riser stock + high sights, laser sights, direct-camera feedback sighting... there's options.
>>
I've been saying this for fucking years since I got of the muhreens. Soldiers in desert environments should be issued a basic chest rig, a camelback, a headscarf, a baseball cap, a tshirt, boots, and mesh basketball like pants.

Body armor is fucking useless, sure it saved a few lives, but it hinders combat effectiveness by like 80%. How about this, move faster and dont get shot?

Maybe in the universe of DOOM and 40k.
Not in the real life universe of 2k.

Seriously, couldn't they just design this around an IOTV (or similar design) vest?

Spoken like some sort of RPG videogame player.
Newsflash: you go to war? Prepare to get shot at. Besides, modern armor is feather light, zero hindrance.

Besides, the systems like these will completely negate any weight armor and gear introduces.
>>
>>33989806
>body armor is feather light

Spoken like someone who has never worn body armor
>>
>>33989806
It is actually pretty heavy especially if youre wearing it all day. Also makes it more difficult to shoulder your weapon comfortably/effectively, unless its the swimmer cut plates. To be fair this is just from someone who wears my PC around the house
>>
>>33989827
You wish, CoD kid.
Served a decade ago as a signaler. On top of the typical shit, we often lugged around comms equipment, including a goddamn AN/PRC-77.

Modern kevlar vests and plates are less than 15lbs total.
>>
>>33989847
All that is the reason why I prefer Armor Carriers (IBA, IOTV...) over PCs: their front is more even and smoothly round, and thus shouldering is easier. Some even come with padded shoulders for that reason.
>>
The revision eye pro sucks. Shut em down

>Body armor is fucking useless

No it's not, the implementation of armor into conventional forces was just pants on head retarded.

SOF had been wearing armor for years before it was finally introduced into the conventional units, but they were smart enough to use it as the mission dictated, and were constantly improving it by REDUCING coverage to enhance mobility. If you were doing airborne ops, or had to hump a ruck, you left the armor at the vehicle or in the rear, but if you were going to do a quick raid, then you wore your armor. SOF even got to the point where they came up with the chicken plate front and back. Smart.

The conventional forces treated armor as if were just another uniform item, as opposed to the specialized piece of protective equipment that it really is, which means the morons made their troops wear it regardless of the mission, or how much weight they would have to carry while in the armor. Chalk that up to shitty leadership, not shitty armor.
>>
how effective are the kevlar pads placed over the groin area

are they mostly for shrapnel?
>>
>>33989755
>move faster and dont get shot?

I'm sorry anon, most people can't teleport behind others and stab them with their katanas.
>>
>>33991846
kevlar alone can't save you from much. it's mostly for shrapnel and some of the weaker handgun rounds.
>>
>>33989848
>Modern kevlar vests and plates are less than 15lbs total.

Conventional OTV armors weigh up to 33 pounds, dude.

>AN/PRC-77

The PRC-77 was replaced by the SINGCARS in the 90's, dude, and it was replaced by the ASIP by the end of the decade. The fuck kind of trash unit were you in that still humped 77's in 07'?

Must be a Brit...

I'm all for high speed low drag memery, but like most things it is a balance. Not 500lb tank people, or 90lb coked up child soldier tier speed, but a nice medium offering mobility and vital-area protection should be the goal.

This is the real deal boys

Not that anon, but...

>Conventional OTV armors weigh up to 33 pounds, dude.

Who in the flying fuck still uses OTV other than third worlders? US uses IOTVs.
>>
>>33991923
They weigh pretty much the same depending on if you use side-plates and shit...
>>
>>33991946
I thought most people got rid of the side plates. Still weighs roughly 30 - 35 lbs though.
>>
>>33991774
>>33991757
you can get level IV esapi rated plates that weight 5.5lbs apiece nowadays.
>>
>>33991962
Depends on the comand. Some of them made their troops wear everything, regardless of the mission.
