How do you all shoot a lot of ammo without going broke?

For instance, my primary handgun round is 45 ACP, and I shoot it a LOT. Spending basically 50 cents per round, if I shoot a thousand rounds per week I wind up spending 500 dollars on ammunition alone.

This burns a big ass hole in my wallet. I love to shoot but I cannot afford doing this regularly. Do I need to start reloading my own ammo or what?
>>
1 You can get 45 acp for way cheaper
2 Shoot 9mm
3 Don't shoot 1,000 rounds/week. No one here does that.
>>
>1000 rounds a week
what
>>
shoot less, shoot alternative calibers, buy in bulk to save, invest in reloading. these are you options.
>>
>>33984012
reload dude. its not hard.
>>
>>33984012
I stocked up on 7n6 while it was dirt cheap, not to mention 9mm is very affordable to shoot.
>>
>>33984012
Reload.
>>
>>33984078
>1 You can get 45 acp for way cheaper
not where I live you can't, unless you're buying wolf ammo or something like that
>2 Shoot 9mm
I'd really rather not, my handguns are mostly 45 so that would be a big change for me. Would have to buy guns and probably get rid of some too
>3 Don't shoot 1,000 rounds/week. No one here does that.
how much do yall shoot

>>33984137
>>33984148
how much cheaper is it compared to buying your own ammo?
>>
>>33984263
$70 - $130 for 1000 .45 ACP

Also if you're shooting 1000 rounds a week, you either need to get an IPSC sponsorship or you're doing something very wrong.
>>
>>33984012
Buy a .22 and shoot all day for cheap. The Ruger SR22 pistol is pretty nice.

How in the fuck are you shooting 1,000 rounds a week? The people who do this are pretty much GM competitive shooters and I strongly doubt you're one of these people that benefits from such high volume shooting.

Dryfire is important and should not be ignored in favor of live fire
>>
>>33984012
Buy in bulk online
Find a retailer that doesn't charge tax online.

>>33984137
>>33984148
>Reloading is only cheaper if your time is worthless.
Reloading super common pistol rounds is also kinda stupid.

Buddy of mine reloads .50 AE and .454 because it's almost 1/4 the price of buying it.
But 9mm, .40 or .45 saves you Such a small amount of money, that's it's simply no worth it.
>>
>hurr I spend $2000 a month on ammo but don't know anything about reloading or own anything other than 45 AARP hand guns and would have to sell one to get a 9mm. Also I buy all my ammo in local stores so where I live means I can't get it for less.

You expected people to believe this shit? KYS.

OP is fake and gay.
>>
>>33984672
>How in the fuck are you shooting 1,000 rounds a week?
shoot a lot every weekend
>>
>>33984012
either buy steel cased russian ammo online in bulk for 20 cents a round or start reloading and/or casting your own
>>
>>33985720
Yeah I doubt that's anything but wasting ammo.
>>
>>33985743
donut like that steel cased ammo
>>33985754
explain
>>
>>33984137
>>33984148
How quickly can you make up the initial investment with reloading when doing primarily common rounds like 45, 9, and 5.56?
>>
>>33985760
depends on how much you shoot, pretty fast if you shoot as much as OP does
>>
>>33985759
>don't like steel-case
You don't reload your own ammo, so what's the fucking problem?
>>
>>33985777
Trips of truth
>>
>>33985772
Let's say, maybe 100-150 rounds a month.
>>
>>33984012
Uh, I spend 30 cents around or less and I live in California...nigga, you doing something wrong.
>>
>>33984012
Get a better job before you shoot.

Shoot cheaper ammo

Reload

Buy guns in cheaper ammo or multiple ammo types. 38 in 357 etc.

If you have to come to /k/ for financial advice, you need to re examine your finances.
>>
>>33985812
a basic set up should cost no more than 200-300 dollars. So that combined with the materials for your ammo, you should break even after like a year or a year and a half I think
>>
>>33984012
Also, unless your training for competition, I can't see you shooting a thousand rounds a week, you'd have to replace barrels and springs every few years.

Once again, you are getting raped by whatever Jew merchant your buying your ammo. 25-35 cents is all you should ever spend on plinking ammo

Also, have you considered getting a 22lr pistol and rifle since you spend every hour of your weekend shooting?

get Ruger 10/22, a Ruger SP 101 and a Ruger MK IV and a shit ton of mags and you can scratch the itch while spending slightly less money.
>>
>>33985843
Not bad. Thanks for the info.
>>
>>33984012
You're paying 50 CPR for .45ACP? Where do you live, England? Use Wikiarms and find yourself some cheap steel cased doge ammo
>>
>>33984012
>1000 rounds a week
Chances are you made that number up completely because that volume of shooting a single caliber is pretty insane. Otherwise you need to stop mag dumping and actually aim. Reloading isn't going to help you much either because believe me, reloading 1000 rounds a week is going to take a hell of a lot more time than you probably think.

>>33984263
Yeah, so, uh, buy wolf. You're poking holes in paper circles, not raiding a compound in Pakistan and taking out Osama Bin Laden. Shoot whatevers cheapest.
>>
>>33984672
Shoot 150 rounds a day. Adds up quick if you're shooting in your backyard.
>>
>>33984682
Bullshit, I reload 45s for 20 cents a round, lucky gunner shows 25 cents as best deal for wolf, it's not much immediately but that adds up over time, and it's not about actually saving money as it is being able to shoot more with the ammo budget you have, plus if you are doing it right your reloads will be more consistent and thus more accurate.
>>
>>33984012
>How do you all shoot a lot of ammo without going broke?

When I'm at shooting range I mumble thanks to buds gunshop every time I put in a fresh magazine.

Now I know why they call him hi cock
>>
>>33984672

tyrone & jamal shoot about 200rds/day in chicongo
>>
Dude.

Order ammo online.

Do people here really go to stores to buy ammo?

Not only are you paying 50% to TWICE as much for the same ammo, you're paying taxes on it too.

This entire post triggered me
>>
>>33984012
You're overpaying by close to 20 cents a round. Like, jesus, wtf are you using? Also stop buying it at LGSs and Gander.

Reload. My .45acp load costs about 12 cents a round with a plated bullet.
>>
>>33984078
>nobody here does that
I do, though most of it is shotgun shells.

t. Skeetfag
>>
>>33984682
Oh boy here we go again with the HURR NOT WORTH IT schtick.

First. Even compared to the cheapest steelcase, you can save 15-17 cents a round.

Second, you can reload ~300 rounds an hour on a turret or between 500 and 1200 rounds an hour on a progressive (though 800 is pretty much the high end for a non motorized rig and good qc). So it's not even a significant time investment.
>>
How much do you guys pay for your ammo?
>>
>>33984078
>1,000 rounds/week. No one here does that.
I don't do it all the time, but I have shot 1200 rounds in one day. 7:00am til Sunset. A day well spent. FYI they were reloads. Spent about 12 hours total making them.
>>
>>33984078
>No one here does that.

I probably shoot about 2000 9mm alone a month.
>>
>>33984012
Thinking of getting into reloading my 9mm and .223. I know it's super common but I intend simply for reloading to be a way to pass the free time, and maybe save a cent or two here. What are some good sources to look at/ get stuff from? There's so much conflicting info out there I don't know where to start
>>
>>33984012
>For instance, my primary handgun round is 45 ACP, and I shoot it a LOT.
You could go to a independent gun shop and make a deal to have them buy 20 cases of .45 @ 10%-15% over their cost. Good chance they'd love that shit since it pads their minimum order amount distributors require and give them an immediate profit.
So 20 cases of .45 for 5K ? And they get $500 profit for 5 minutes on the phone? They'll do that all day.

>100 rounds 5 days a week after work
>250 rounds saturday, 250 rounds sunday

it's really easy, just financially crippling for most of us.
>>
>>33984012
>How do you all shoot a lot of ammo without going broke?

Re-load.

Get a dillon square deal-B in 45 acp, scales, and start recovering your brass.

Outside of sponsorship, re-loading is the only viable way to minimize your cost / training ratio.
>>
>>33984672
>Dryfire is important

Agree.

However, to shoot fast, you've got to see fast, and the only way to see fast is to shoot fast, and you can only do that with live fire.
>>
I shoot like 60 rounds of .308 every other week.
