So....how much ammo should a self-respecting gun owner hoard?

How many rounds of x y and z do you have on hand?

I only keep about a thousand rounds of .223 and a couple hundred 12 ga target shells on hand. Am I at risk?
>>
>>33976594
500 rd of .22lr Thunderbolt
40 rd of .22lr CCI
100 rd of 12ga, birdshot and slugs

Need to stop being poor and bulk up on steel case .308
>>
>>33976594

~500 9x19
~150 .223
~300 12 ga bird shot
50 20 ga bird shot
~100 .30-06
~1000 .22lr
1 .44 magnum

i want more .30-06, .223, and 9mm
>>
>>33976594
To be honest, I only have like 1000 rounds of rifle and 500 of pistol. I don't touch that, though. That is apocoplypse ammo only. If I wanna go shooting, I reload some more or buy some.

Think about it, if there is SHTF, you are not going to be able to carry that all on you or need that much to defend your home. It's overkill. Unless you are planning on supplying a militia.
>>
>>33976594
Are you talking rounds to hoard or rounds to shoot?
If you're shooting regularly, you need ammunition. If you get it cheap and in bulk you save on shipping, so your stock varies.
I have about 5K 9mm, 2K 9mm Mak, 5K .223, and 5K .22LR, and 500 30-06. More or less. But I shoot regularly, so I just rotate new shit in when its cheap.
>>
>>33976621
A few thousand rounds of ammo isn't hard to move from house to car at all though. When shit meets fan you can easily grab your 5 gallon buckets full of ammo and toss them in your car.
>>
>>33976621
Well if you were really gonna go that hardcore when it comes to stocking up ammo for the Habbening, then you're probably also the kind of person who's crazy enough to bury caches in the woods, and other hiding places.
>>
>>33976682
WSHTF and you have to wait in line for gas, you're going to have it all in your car?
What happens if you have to ditch the ve-hic-le?
>>
>>33976711

Can't wait until I get my Type 81 so that I have an excuse to start a proper stockpile without spending a fuckton of money on it.

I've got:
a little over 1000 rounds of .270
2 1080 round spam cans of 5.45
300 rounds 9x18
1000 rounds 9x19
80 rounds of 12 GA.

>>33976734
Why would you transfer all your ammo to the car?
Pool bro high five, though.

Tucson, AZ. 40K gallons of water and a couple of Lifestraw Family filters. Rice, beans, canned fruit, plenty of small game, a couple of solar cookers. 3006 and a couple of AR's with optics, I'm betting I could be both low-observation and defensible. I honestly don't think there will ever be a SHTF moment, but if we lost power for 2 weeks, we'd be fine. If the local water supply was contaminated, if the hoards storm the border before trumps wall, if if if...
I like to shoot, I'm cheap, I have a lot of bullets and I rotate through them 'cause I shoot.

Wouldn't a blackpowder musquet make more sense in a long term shtf situation? As a last resort, you could make black powder more easily than smokeless powder.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MzQs_-S5dU

Or at least lots of .22LR for hunting with a shotgun adapters to shoot them instead of bulky, expensive 12ga ammo.

I write for a few gun rags on the side of my everyday work, so I tend to stock a little more than most.

I have maybe 800 rounds of .308 FMJ and maybe another 200 soft point.
Got 300 rounds of .45-70 coming my way with the gun to fire it sometime next month.

the only ammo I really keep track of is 9mm, since I go through it the fastest. I have about 1100 rounds right now. aside from that:
~250 7.62x39
~100 .308
~100 7.62x51
~180 9x18
~300 7.62x54r

I don't shoot much .308 these days, but I need more 7.62x39, since I just got an SKS.

Depends what you're buying and the price. I have a lot of AK food stacked up hedging against imports being halted. I bought a couple cases of 5.56 before the election. I practically shoot any pistol ammo I have as I get it. Full power cartridge stores vary depending on if I find good deals.

Ideally, enough to get you through a few years of political BS making prices higher or ammo harder to find. But I would have never guessed that these 22lr shenanigans would last this long.

eh, 400ish .45acp, most of which are old enough to vote. Previous owner of my gun had a massive stash, widow sold all of that to me cuz what does she need it for? I'm slowly exhausting that stock.

also 100+/- 9x19 for plinking. currently trying to figure out optimal bullet weights and powder loads for the 9mm, which is quite a diva in which ammo she likes or doesnÄt like.

As much as possible.

I have

1500 5.56 Nato
600 9mm
And 100 12 guage slugs, with 400 target loads some of which are home made wax slugs.

Some guys would say that's a lot. I feel like almost a noguns because not enough.

So what happened, did the rim separate from the case? primer blow out?

Rim seperated and I got a face full of smoke. The gas plug seized as well and getting that to come off was not easy.

Minimum:

.22lr: 5 bricks (2500 rounds)

At least 500 rounds for each regular use handgun: Duty handgun, carry gun, bear defense, etc. No less than 100 should be of your carry ammo.

At least 1000 for your primary rifle. That's all you need if you plan to bug out. Should stock more if you plan to bug in.

500 for each additional combat rifle.

Shotguns: No less than 500 rounds total, include at least 100 each of buck, bird, slugs. The rest can be whatever suits your needs.

Hunters: Enough to get you throw at least the next season. For me that means at least two cases of birdshot, a box of slugs, and a box of .270

At least 200 rounds of match-grade for each precision rifle

At least 100 rounds for each gun you own, even if it doesn't see regular use. I have an antique revolver that hasn't been fired in some 50 years, but I still keep two boxes for it on hand.

All of this, plus enough to get you through all of next month's range trips.

I, of course, have much more than this, this is just the minimum.

I have 1000 762x39 and 1000 9mm reloads

>>
>>33982028
I think you're right. They cost so little to stock up on, and 22cals have pretty good hunting potential and require relatively little skill.
It's just that your range is limited. But they're not very loud and don't keep critters spooked very long.
>>
>>33976621
If SHTF/wrol/whatever, do you really think bugging out at the first sign of anything is a good idea? Also who says you don't need a few thousand rounds of rifle ammo to defend your home or community?
>>
>>33976594
>So....how much ammo should a self-respecting gun owner hoard?
Several thousand for each non-meme cartridge, and as many bullets, primers, and propellant as is physically safe/reasonable to store.
>>
>all these shtf fantasies
It'll never happen.
And if it does, you won't need nearly the ammunition you think you will, if any for the most part. It'll probably be a slow-ish enough transition that people will just adapt like they always have.
It'll be about cooperation within communities for the most part, life will go on mostly how it did before but you'll have more manual labor and less free time temporarily.
