You get issued a helmet cover from supply that goes on your helmet, wear cat eye band around that and a mount for NVGs. Some units are authorized/required to sew their unit patch onto the side (I've only seen 4th ID do this but I'm sure others do). That's pretty much it, for Army anyway. Don't know what Marines do.

Now everyone in the military volunteered. You can get away with a little, but not much. I carried my Copenhagen in a band around my old steel pot (yes I am an old fag and I still have my old steel pot and liner). No one ever said anything. I hated when we went to Kevlar.

No room in the British army, at least with the Ospreys. SOP state that if you're going into a hostile environment, you're REQUIRED to have some sort of SCRIM. If anyone's actually used natural SCRIM, you know how much of a bitch it is to upkeep and look after, so many squaddies just buy ripped up MTP cloth and stick it onto their helmet.
