Lone Survivor is just SEAL "truth" where as Kyle's American Sniper is lies even by their measure. A SEAL's retirement is bookdeals, truth highly optional.

Hurt Locker is kind of worse for depicting a significally distorted view of the war operation, what EOD does, and how the military operates... But gets universal normie praise for "muh realism" just because their explosions weren't Micheal Bay tier gasoline balls.

That all said, the really good movies about _____ war come out 15-30 years after the war is over. Look how shitty WW2 movies were until the Dirty Dozen hit theatres.

>Look how shitty WW2 movies were until the Dirty Dozen hit theatres
The Dirty Dozen is more of an action flick than a serious war movie. Most of the truly good WW2 movies, in my opinion, came in the first decades following the war; Battleground (1949), Twelve O'Clock High (1949), Decision Before Dawn (1951) and The Longest Day (1962) are some examples.

As the time passes, the popular view about the war becomes somehow more and more stereotyped. We start to add more gruesome elements to show the brutality of the war, but lose the autentic feeling that only the people of that time, who lived through it, could bring.

The SEALs movie incompetence is nothing compared to the real life incompetence displayed in the mission. The team inserted via Chinook less than 1km from the target. The entire Taliban village herd them arrive. At first light, the Taliban went to were they heard the helicopter and found the fastrope. The taliban knew americans were around and told the villagers to keep an eye out. then the goat herders found them. kidnapping the goat herders wouldn't have achieved anything, the taliban knew they were there.

In the movie, there were hundreds of taliban and the battle lasted seemly an hour. In reality it was about ten taliban and they ambushed the SEALs, 3/4 SEALs were killed almost immediately. They barely had enough time to contact base. the 'lone survivor' never even fired a shot, he ran away, tumbled down the side of the mountain and knocked himself out.

Then a chinook full of more SEALs arrived so the taliban shot it out of the sky with an unguided rpg.

credit where credit is due. I'd rather see the movie from Shah's perspective.
>>
>>33968561
I'm going have to disagree
For the longest time, even today, WW2 was known as the Good War
Excluding the actual Veterans who served and saw, WW2 movies following immediately the end of WW2 were just propaganda showing how good the allies were

As much I agree with you on that matter, I must make two points: A good number of the actors, directors and scriptwriters from the movies of that time are indeed veterans of WW2. Like Samuel Fuller or Robert Pirosh, who wrote Battleground and which truly lived through the Battle of Ardennes. Second, the representation of the germans, or other enemies, didnt changed that much today, either. I mean, look at Fury, Red Tails or even to Saving Private Ryan. In many cases they are still represented as those faceless fanatics, or derivatives of other times.

I know that there are some heavy propaganda war movies from back then, like Sink the Bismarck or others, but they also exist in big numbers even today. There will always be good and bad movies, but personally I think that they did the good ones better back then, while today they generally focus more in the pyrotechnic aspect of the deal, and the stories become a grossly exaggerated mix of war movie cliches.

Why are Americans like this? Vietnam beat the shit out of you guys 40 years ago, I would've thought you would have grown a little humility by now. You really don't understand the geo-political situation do you? You are so short sighted, trying to win internet arguments, that you didn't notice that the people in power don't want the war to end. They created the war to keep things as they are. If it ends they have to create another boogyman to blindside the general populace so they can remain at the top and do what they like unopposed. And that takes extra work to create yet another enemy.

That's why the war on terror will never be won, because they don't want to win it. Get your shit together fool.

Correction: WW2 has Unsere Mütter, Unsere Väter (Generation War to burgers). A movie that actually deals with the front on which the war was decided, and on which most casualties occurred.

Saving Private Ryan is a fun movie, but it ain't the definining WW2 filmmaking accomplishment by a long shot.

Meh. "Stalingrad" is my ultimate WW2 movie. It shows cruelty, disgust, fear and pain but without dehumanizing either side. Whenever someone dies or suffer you are not allowed to be indifferent or cheerful. I can't think of a better message for a movie to convey.
