Can someone post pics of their gear sprayed with a Rustoleum/Krylon finish?
Just curious as to how it holds up. I know it's probably not as good as Cerakote or whatever but I'm just curious. Maybe the wear makes it look cooler, lol.

The grey one has a matte clear coat on top, not sure if I used it on the green one.
Painted up my shed with it a couple years ago. It's held up just fine.
I used Rust-Oleum camo paint. The pistol grip, selector, and foregrip are already wearing through from handling.
If you want a finish that will decently hold up (not as well as cerakote) try spray on engine paint and bake it on. I tried it on my tok for shits and giggles.
do fake issue markings count
I used the paint in your pic in olive but I was retarded and didn't take the time to fully clean and sand the surfaces I was painting so it started flaking right away. So I ended up taking some sandpaper and took off what came off easily and now I have an accidentally distressed AR.

PS I'm sorry my phone takes gigantic photos
Used OD and tan Rustoleum cans on my paintball gun. Colors look better in person. It's worn out some on the trigger and pistol grip with use, but it's a fun way to experiment with camo for dirt cheap.

No. No no no no.
No.

I don't think you should use any kind of paint you're going to be touching often. Painting the receivers should be fine but handguards and grips may require something more permanent.
As always, prep the surfaces. Alcohol wipes it then wipe with a damp rag until all residue is gone, then spray a base coat. Don't fuck around with sanding that's a meme, a proper base coat makes the surface rough for you.

Just sprayed this police surplus P89. Didn't want to spend a ton of money refinishing a cheap gun. I think it turned out okay. If it wears I will just respray it.

Elaborate
>>33950642
you spray painted a fucking shed? WHY?
It's been painted for about 4 years now, no touchups. Most of it (including entire base coat) was Rustoleum camo but one color was regular krylon. There's peeling on the stock and ruboff on the grip. I dont treat it well, but I dont put it through very much either. Its only been innawoods a few times, but to the range a lot.
and some paint has been scratched off the magwell lips.

The wear is what makes it look sexy.

Wait, you painted the slide... silver?

Looking at my gun I'm realizing that this guy is right:
>>33953305
>pistol grip
>cheek weld
>trigger finger index location (under mag release)
>magwell opening
>front of magwell from magwell grippin'
>2/3rd forward on handguard
It all makes perfect sense

Honestly it looks bretty gud
>>33953547
why bother with fucking paintbrushes, rollers, and buckets of paint?
>>33953833
Because its actually cheaper, easier, and faster?

If the original finish was intact but worn I probably would have left it. The previous owners decided to paint it with some gnarly ass thick black gloss paint that was chipping. Looked terrible in my opinion.
>>33953691
I painted the frame flat black.
I sanded the slide with high grit sandpaper to remove some rust and deeper scratches.

It really depends on the shed I think. something pretty small would not warrant even picking up the paint key.
>>33953151
That looks fucking horrendous
>>33950550
I try to use Engine Enamel spray or Epoxy spray when paint is needed.
Currently have an 11-87 that's painted since it has no original finish left on it when I got it, and the plastic parts of my PTR are painted green since I wanted green but it was sold out everywhere.
The 11-87 I'll probably send out to have refinished this winter once the weather sucks again.
Good surface prep and thin even coats are the secret to a good finish.
Back in my airshit days I Krylon'd my M16's furniture, and it held up surprisingly well. I put that gun through a lot of abuse, more than most non-military real guns will ever see, and even after a few years of punishment it was still great.

Even ordinary rattlecan finishes should hold up moderately well to handling.
It's not just about prep but also about letting the paint cure for the proper time. Rustoleum for example, doesn't reach full hardness for a month...not even making that up.
OP here about to get this started
Dunno which number coat this is, but I put on 5 or so coats.
last coat.
I'm digging the matte look.
I don't care if it doesn't last or if it starts looking gay. I'll just spray it with stripper and it'll look like it did originally, or I'll just spray another coat on.
This spray paint rocks

this anons right if you want your shit to keep looking good dont touch those parts for the next 2 weeks. dont even attempt to reassemble.
>>33953151
You fucking moron.
>>33955685
how does it smell? like normal paint after its dried or something else?
I wanna do this with my 19-
-but in some kind gray, maybe a "gunmetal"
If youre not going for a racecar high gloss finish that youre afraid to take to the range, rattle can works just fine
The worn down contact anf high heat zones just make it look better if youre going for a camo job.
