Am I better off getting a hembrug or milsco klewang if I want it functional as a sword and to use it to cut water bottles?
>>
>water bottles

A kitchen knife is adequate. Get whatever you want.
>>
Always go for the original

Fuck you, get a Cold Steel.

fuck cold steel

fuck you

Dont torture antique weapons, anon. And even if you buy then without specialists supervision you will sure get ripped off. If you want to get a good functional sword go here http://www.kultofathena.com/
Do you practice hema? What is your budget? I can give you all the advice you need if you want to
>>
>>33948462
I hear that the reproses aren't balanced for shit? Also isn't the point of a sword to be used?
>>
>>33948494
>reproses
Reproductions you mean? There are different quality from different manufacturers and for different prices (yeah avoid cold steel). Point of balance is different for different swords and on cult of athena you can read in the description where the point of balance on one particular sword is. I assume you want a saber or a cutlass? Their point of balance is closer to the tip, so it would make good cuts, but the closer PoB is to the tip the less point controll you have, and the opposite, the closer PoB is to the handle, the less cutting power you have. One thing to avoid is cavalery sabers, they are quite heavy and known as "wrist breakers", so you should choose regular cavarely saber. Nice thing about sabers than they cheaper than for example medieval sword reproductions, and you still can get good quality for the affordable price. What culture are you interested in? I could help you with finding one you like.
>>
>>33948548
But also what important, with swords, you get what you pay for, youre not going to get a decent sword for less than 200 us dollars. And what comes in handly, that in modern age of fast wireless enternet conection, you always can in a blink of an eye find reviews even video tests of the one particular sword you wish to buy
>>
>>33948548
I want a post civil war era naval cutlass. I already have a shitty reproduction cavarely saber from the 80s that used to belong to my grandpa. It is 100% a wall hanger and a wrist breaker. I need to get it repaired a bit because someone, most likely my uncle, broke the bottom of the hand guard
>>
>>33948583
Hm, a naval cuttlas you say... With such strict criteria (american, post civil war naval cutlass) probably there will be not much to choose from, but ill look up for it.
http://kultofathena.com/s_results.asp?search=naval+cutlass&submit=Search
You can see for yourself, the best they got is cold steel, their quiality of the blade, fit of the handle and ect, is quite low, they sell alot of factory messed up items and for me they are not aestetically pleasing. There are all the early modern age swords, you can see yourself. http://www.kultofathena.com/swords-earlymodern.asp And again, what amount of money are you willung to spent?
>>
>>33948646
Doesn't have to be american. Just post civil war and not a machete
>>
>>33947807
Why would someone be mad about a Milsco? They are glorified reproductions and most never saw service and were sold straight on the surplus market
>>
>>33948713
Do it yourself faggot, he gave you all the links
>>
>>33949051
Cocksucker, if someone doesn't link me to a good repro I am just gunna buy a fucking antique

This.

If you're going for a budget "I'm going to cut stuff with this but I also want it to look and feel like a real, historical piece" sword, you should go for something Windlass offers. They seem to draw a good balance between historical accuracy, functional performance/durability, and affordability. You could get a nice sturdy historical replica sword for under $300.

I mean, granted, it's not going to be anywhere near an Albion, Tinker Pearce, Angus Trim, or Del Tin in terms of quality, but it's not going to be a heavy, historically-inaccurate, unbalanced piece of shit like a Cold Steel, disintegrate on contact like a Deepeeka, or cost you and arm and a leg (aside from the limbs you sever by flailing around a sharpened sword).

Pic vaguely related.
>Oh shit I need a gift for the king!
>Well, what does he like?
>Uhh swords, gold, and the sea.
>Say no more.
>>
So, will people some day care about cold steel as much as people care about milsco?
>>
>>33951733
Tentative second.
I've never actually held a Windlass, but I have heard very good things, and I respect that they are willing to do some of the more unusual blades out there (who else makes an estoc or a falx?).
>>
>>33953117
Self-correction: Its actually Wulflund that makes the falx, not Windlass. My initial point still stands, and I'd like to point out that Wulflund seems to make some interesting stuff in a similar price point, and most of it appears to be Czech made, for whatever thats worth.
>>
>>33953138
Does Wulflund sell bare blades? Their prices are reasonable, and I'd like to hilt my own Migration-Era sword.
>>
>buying a reproduction instead of the real deal
>>
>>33949297
Sadly there's no such thing as "good reproduction sabre/cutlass"

Honestly you're best bet is finding an antique, they were so heavily made that you can find plenty of them in good condition for cheap, that it'll be cheaper to buy an antique and clean it up/sharpen it than even the shitty Indian repro's (that are the only thing on the market)
>>
>>33954191
Which is why I don't understand why someone would get mad about me buying one and using it to cut. They are the nuggets of swords
>>
>>33954229
Yeah I'd agree with that, there's nothing wrong with using most antique sabres for cutting or drills, some guys in my old hema group even modified some for sparring because they were so much better than repros for handling

I only own one antique sword, a model 1907 spanish cavalry sword. I almost bought an antique smallsword off Matt Easton but someone else got to it first
>>
>>33954335
Do you know if it is worth springing for the hembrug (dutch made) cutlasses or will the use made Milsco ones be fine?
>>
>>33954335
So what you're saying is you advocate rawdoggan lady historee, including a dirty sanchez finisher?

History is your sister, mother, and daughter anon. You sick, dumb fuck.
>>
>>33954400
A cutlass is literally a cheaply built sword that exists to give to drunk conscripts to use to fight on a boat. They weren't some hand forged work of art. The were something assembled in a factory as by the lowest bidder.
>>
>>33954400
Do you say people advocate the same thing when they shoot a mosin nagant, or any other milsurp rifle for that matter?

Your bog standard infantry/cavalry/artillery service sabre was made in such huge amounts that the vast majority of them sat in their scabbards in a barrel somewhere, never saw use and never even got sharpened

Sharpening one and using it for cutting practice, or rolling the tip and using it for sparring will probably make you the only person to ever swing it since it passed the basic proof testing that some manufacturers at the time required the swords to pass
>>
>>33954435
That's what the jewish communists will say of your mother when she is press ganged into the gangbang press, delivering news while being a public use lady.

What a world we need to avoid.

Give me the run down on this.

>Ordinary, basic, standard without extra features
Something like this, the standard issue cavalry sword for early 20th century spanish cavalry troops
>>
>>33954481
Why would you want something so thrust centric?
>>
>>33956103
Fencing at the time (nearly modern sport fencing) was extremely thrust-centric, and the guys who decided what sword to give the troops would generally have a solid background in fencing. So they picked what worked for them, and there you have it.
>>
>>33956132
That makes sense. I also know there was a general trend towards thrusting swords in the military in general, but you were less and less likely to actually fight other people with swords. Personally I'd prefer a cut and thrust blade in case of multiple opponents... and because I'm not a practiced fencer.
>>
>>33956151
Paton sword is super trust. He took a cutting curved blade and replaced it with a thrusting one.
>>
>>33956103
>want
You may have wanted something more cut orientated but you're not an officer, you got what you were given and you accepted it. Officers had freedom to have whatever they wanted but they had to pay for all their gear
>>
>>33956132
>the greatest general in American history was a sword fag
>>
>>33947807
Swords are not functional in 2017. Get a cheap machete.
>>
>>33959935
What do you think a Klewang is?
>>
>>33956734
>>33954481
Patton sabre isn't even made for fencing or fighting but charging, it has zero other use than during a cavalry charge.
