May be moving to cali in a few months have a very good job opportunity, what can I do to get an AK that's the least shitted up and still be legal?

I'm fine with making it a straight pull bolt action. I just want it to look normal, be able to hold it properly and not have to fuck around with some shit maglock garbage. Am I better off going with an SKS?

Also, how am I expected to transport weapons? Here I have constitutional carry and can do pretty much whatever I want.

What about pistols? CCW? Will be in San Jose if that helps.
Thanks guys.
>>
>>33937170

or close off gas port and use it as a straight pull bolt gun like you said. I think that's legal. idk.

I can always leave unfucked guns with my father. He loves them as much as I do and lives in the middle of nowhere. I'd probably visit every couple months to enjoy them as well as check up on him and make sure he's doing good.

The job has a good starting and after a few years it will be so much more. I can always move to Dallas later on since it's in high demand there as well. It's worth it in the long term.

I'm more concerned about defending myself at home, but even more outside of the home.

I'll probably just end up going with an SKS, since I can't stand the sight of a fucked cali AK, but I'd still like to know what my options are for CCW and I'm not too sure where to ask abut that.

Sorry for the novel, boys.

From what I understand, only the "Krink" barrels have the issue. The 16" and 20" barrels aren't cut down, but they are Bulgarian and not Russian like K-VAR claimed.

>>
>>33939543
My 176b is great
I also got a 603 that's a little wonky, but I suppose in a good way, it will just require a little machining. Zastas 603 looked different than mine and has a different set of numbers stamped into it. Point being some of the barrels don't seem to standardized, but I wouldn't worry about the 176b
>>
>>33939543
I have two Bulgarian 74 barrels from Kvar and they're great

That's probably what this "krink" barrel was made from

>>33939551
I was skeptical from the moment they started saying they were Russian. There's this mindset that since Bulgaria never "made" RPKs, that anything RPK related out of Bulgaria HAS to be Russian. As if Arsenal's barrel machines are incapable of making RPK barrels.

It's still a well made CHF-CL RPK-74 barrel for a great price. Gas port, extractor cuts, and handguard retainer channels are already made. Threaded muzzle.
>>
>>33939590
Statistically speaking he's right though. Your average /k/ommando already shoots far, far more than a typical gun owner, who only drags it out when they're bored. I'm pretty sure I put more rounds through my Glock 19 last month than my dad has ever put through his Glock 23, and he's had his at least two years longer than I've had mine.
>>
>>33939551
Oh. I see.
>>
>>33939601
>>33939631
Did your 16" 5.45 barrels come with the handguard retainer cuts already cut? That is the only thing missing on mine and I'm not sure if that's normal or not as I've never bought any AK barrels before. It isn't a big deal as it isn't a difficult thing for a builder to do when installing, I just don't know if that's how they all come from KVar

7.62 top

Yes mine is finished. Interestingly the 7.62 barrel looks a lot like a Saiga barrel. Kvar says it's compatible for AK-103.
>>
>>33939771
Just for reference if anyone is interested in these barrels. Guess I'll need to buy calipers
>>
>>33939771

I'm talking about the cuts parallel to the barrel on both sides, the slots where the handguard retainer slides on to keep it from rotating. Not the notch. A virgin barrel should not have the notch cut. My 74 barrels and my RPK-74 barrel all have those cuts, however...

My krinkov barrel does not. The gas port is drilled, but it doesn't have any machining for the lower handguard retainer done.

I own a mosin and an SKS(as well as a mauser)
So it's time to buy my first "real" rifle obviously I want to stick with 7.62x39/54r since I already have a bunch of that.

I cant choose between pic related Romanian ak in Russian red for about 800~ from Atlantic arms or a vepr in 54r with the Atlantic arms red svd furniture for about 1k

I think I'm really leaning towards the vepr just because I'm autistic and like the fake svd aethetic but the ak sure is beautiful and quite alot cheaper(specially since I would also have to get a scope on the vepr would could be another 300 dollars)

Also how often if at all does Atlantic arms restock thier inventory as the Romanian ak is currently out of stock and I would really like to make the purchase sometime within the next 2 weeks.

Any input at all would be appreciated I'm terrible at making up my mind and generally let others do it for me.

I'd say get a SLR if you want a x39. If you want a Romanian AK, get a WASR-10 and it'll be cheaper and serve all your basic x39 needs. Otherwise, I hear veprs in full power cartridges are either boring and/or just don't have the MOA that people would like.

>>33940072
Buy a WASR and you can get fancy furniture like that and you'll have a better rifle for cheaper.

>>
>>33940072
>>33940101
I'd go with the vepr, full size veprs are beautiful and a lot of fun. But 762x39 offers a lot of what a full rifle does when you compare mud-busting fun ability.
Objectively speaking, the vepr308 would serve you better with ammo cost for noncorrosive(significantly cheaper than even surplus corrosive 54r), and magazine capacity since it's double stack. And there's even some options for folding stocks in that caliber with 20 or 23in barrels.
But I can't argue you chasing a certain look, even it's expensive and just vaguely svd-ish looking.

How much 54r do you actually have on hand? since that seems to be influencing your decision. If you have 1000rds or less, I wouldn't let that influence your decision. That's just a short term stash if you shoot much at all.

Super cool guys, I hung out with them for a few hours and bought them lunch before sending them on their way

I didn't say sell, I said trade :^^

I don't blame you for never wanting to sell it, they're super cool. They just have that cool vibe to them that few other guns have, but they're also great guns which is kind of rare for guns that have the same kind of cool factor to them. Someday down the road I'll pick one up

There was a small batch earlier this year. Not sure if it was newly imported or if atlantic just had a bunch of them sitting in the back of the warehouse in the event of a hillary win. Supposedly no more until 2018.

What really sucks is that the 104fr is really the only factory 5.45 sidefolder worth buying that isn't a vepr with goofy RPK features.

5.45 is just getting bullied all the time now. I'm kind of sad about it.

Hey, /akg/. I turned 18 a few weeks ago and picked up my first rifle today - an SLR-104FR. However, there are a few things about it that confuse me. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to put on this damn sling. Also, why do the manual and box say 5,45x39,5 instead of just 5,45x39? I'm loving the rifle so far and will shoot it tomorrow morning. I went ahead and got 1,000 rounds of Golden Tiger a while ago.
>>
>>33944346
Nice, a preban

You have to totally extend the sling, lay it flat from buckle to clip, it doesn't seem possible but you get the clip through the buckle by twisting

You did buy x39.5 golden tiger right? I seriously hope you didn't buy a whole case of 5.45x39. It's like the difference between .223 and 5.56, you might get away with it or you might lose your face.
>>
>>33944346
Congrats on the purchase. Just you tube how to put a sling on that model and there will be a video. FYI you'll most likely want to swap the trigger after you shoot it

>>
What are /k/'s thoughts on 5.45mm AKs? I'd really like to get one but the round seems pretty unsupported and that worries me. I don't like having ammo I can't just get from the local shop or even reload.
>>
>>33944761
Ammo is not really a huge issue. There's plenty of commercial ammo, and it's still cheaper than 5,56. The only problem is that you have to buy it all online.
>>

I'm pretty sure he doesn't think any Russians actually do that and he just did it because he liked how it looked
>>

Why the fuck does this "romanian" rifle have a stainless bolt carrier?
>>
>>33945152
Century does that a lot on their commissioned builds because it looks bling and attracts normies

I've personally used Mixglo.com before several times, but not knowing the size I can't say if they'll have what you need.
There's a few guys on CandlePowerForum that sell tritium as well.
You might try and hunt around and see if you can find someone that's already taken one apart and measured the vial.
Or be very careful to remove it for measurement, the tubes are super fragile.

And you think it's not?
Just because it's become a meme here, doesn't mean it doesn't have a real world counterpart.

it's going to scratch there anyways if you put a sling on it

Sling is fine how it is, faggot. It rolls raw dawg.
>>
>>33945383
Sure.
Good luck and as this anon said >>33945357 please document it and post.
It seems stuff like this doesn't get attempted or if it does the people who do don't share the information.

Enjoy your scratched up gun.
I don't even actuate the safety on my AKs, because I'd rather not scratch the receiver.
>I bet you shoot your gun too, fucking savage.

Best receiver for a Galil?
CNC worth it or nah?

>shooting your gun
I would not dare purposely devalue my guns. They are meant to looked at, not shot.
>>
>>33945415
being in possession of the gun will eventually lead to a scratch or two, which is why i dont even oen my guns anymore. theyre pristine forever now that theyre out of my hands.

If you want a slr-104 go buy one now. There's a good chance Arsenal is playing fuck-fuck games to move rifles after the election, but we're still sitting around waiting for the 107fr to come back.

>>33944839

>plenty

Most of the 5.45 coming into the US in large quantities is Tula and a bunch of different flavors of Barnaul. GT has stuck around for a while now after being absent for ages. Hornady isn't fuck around ammo and neither is 7n6 (anymore).

Not like the sky is falling or anything, but the bulk of 5.45 in the US is imported from two companies in Russia. There's tons of it to be had right now, for what that's worth.

This is low even for Drago

This is one hustle I just HAVE to knock

>we're still sitting around waiting for the 107fr to come back
Meanwhile K-Var is stockpiling them, hoping for something bad to happen so they can "find" them in their warehouse and sell them for "only" $1999.95

I'm half tempted to get a batch of these and try a few backyard type rust removal methods on them
>Mainly the white vinegar and molasses methods

I bet they could be made to look halfway ok, as long as they're not too far gone to begin with.

That's not a bad deal. Even if you can only get 12 reliably working magazines out of the parts from 24 that's a steal.
>>
>>33946325
Have you got them yet?
If so how good/bad are they?
If not, would you post them when you do?
>>
>>33946156
Am I autistic for ordering a 24 pack and then shipping them off to a gunsmith that specializes in refinishing weapons, etc? I mean if I can get a deal, $75 to get the lot refinished, at $125 (plus whatever else) that's a decent enough deal
>>
>>33946449
Seems rather lazy, but it's your money.
I doubt he'll do anything more than you could achieve at home, unless they're being blued.
