You think we'll ever get the USS Pueblo back?

You think a Navy SEALS team could go up the Taedong river and sail her out?
>>
Could? Sure, probably.

Should? Let's not risk the lives of everyone in Seoul over a fifty year old trawler. North Korea isn't the most stable regime and Kim could feel he needs to start shooting to maintain face.
>>
the fact that they turned that old rust bucket into a museum of 'best korean victory' is fucking awesome
>>
>>33934928
We could most certainly get it back, but doing so would probably begin something less than desirable and completely not worth the cost of the USS Pueblo
>>
Sucks that if we get it back the government will just end up scrapping it and striking it from the USN
>>
When this war finally starts and korea is reunified again, i hope they force the peace talks onto the Pueblo.
>>
>>33935895
They wouldn't start anything like that, they is they'd lose.
Even if Kim did order such an attack, you can bet your ass he'd be deposed; there are an awful lot of people living relatively comfortably within the upper echelons of the army. That'd all go to shit if a shooting war happened.
>>
Operation Paul Bunyan 2.0
>>
How likely is it that they've disabled her engines?
>>
>>33935895
>everyone in Seoul

Some people in the northmost suburb of Seoul during the first barrage before the guns are destroyed in the counter-artillery*
>>
Should sneak aboard and put nuke on her, then set it off and level Pyongyang.
When the Norks ask, say it's been there all along and they must have done something wrong to trigger it.
>>
Drop a JDAM on her.
>>
>>33936219
*MOAB
>>
Did they purge the database as per the Cole Protocol?
>>
>>33936172
Speaking out of my ass, I wouldn't put it past them to keep it working just in case. It is a military boat after all.

I wonder if you could tell by going on the tour through it
>>

>>33936229
>>33936262
**MOP

>Massive Ordinance Penetrator
>nearly twice the mass of the MOAB
>unlike MOAB, it's designed to be carried by the B2 bomber, in pairs.
>>
>>33934928
There's half a chance we could reclaim her as a trophy if open war ever breaks out again; the Norks are crazy but I doubt even they would try to salvage the Pueblo once there were American bombers over Pyongyang.

It would be a very cool propaganda victory for US forces to retake it in the event of war, but outside of that there's little chance or reason to do anything.
>>
>>33936293
Do you wanna blow up the boat, or just put a MOP -sized hole through her?
>>
>>33934928
Pretty sure Taedong have sistem of dams, so you need to destroy/capture them first.
>>
>>33936324
MOP goes through the boat, making a hole in it, the water, and a few feet of soil below its dock.. then it explodes with the force of a MOAB.

It's a modern Grand Slam, on steroids, jacked up on meth.
>>
>>33936324
I dunno could be pretty funny if Kim Jong Un visited the ship and a MOP was dropped right on him
>One second, dear leader is standing there
>Next second, he's gone and there's a hole geysering water
>>
>>33936354
>>33936324
A MOP can penetrate 4 meters of 10,000 psi concrete. The type used in dams.

Or 60m of 5000 psi concrete.

The 3 gorges dam is 40m thick at the top. Though it does thicken towards the base.
>>
Why would we want it back? If anything we should just sink it there hahaha. Imagine the museum curator coming in the next morning and there's just a bunch of flotsam floating around and no boat. I think that would be his time to defect
>>
>>33936266
>It is a military boat
Yeah, in that it was used by the mitary, but that's about it. It's basically a civvy vessel painted grey that had a few MG'd bolted to it.

>>

The japs even moe's best korea?! Can they even be stopped?
>>
>>33938368

If the SK could realistically expect to put a team into Pyongyang to rescue a boat, they could realistically expect to assassinate Kim too.

They'd do the latter the second they believe they can pull it off
>>
>>33934928

How many Chinooks would it take to airlift it out?
>>
>>33934928
I have realised something. Most people have no clue that military people have jobs. They don't just be tough, thats not a specialty. Could a "insert whoever you think is a tough guy" insert into the capital city of NK and steal a boat that probably does not have a motor anymore if it does have a motor it has one that has not been run or maintained for almost 50 years. That is under surveillance, drive it miles through the city on a river. No of course not. Not unless it was a movie. That would never happen for so many reasons.
>>
>>33934928
The norks can't maintain their navy, you think they spent more than a single USD keeping the Pueblo sea worthy? I bet they just piled sandbags under the damn thing to keep it looking afloat
>>
>>33938617
Im pretty sure they could accomplish either of those successfully, the thing is there is a not so secret suspicion that if a major event like kim's assassination were to occur, the mimitary and other government entities have a final solution style plan to mass murder everyone jn labor camps, prisons and general populace who might rise up if given fhe chance.

The goal would be for most of those people to die before the us or sk could land a single boot on nk ground.
>>
>>33938368
Being badass and accomplishing this mission are not related. This would require more than badassness. It would require a holywood director
>>
>>33938315
Best Korea, obviously.
>>
>>33938690

To be perfectly honest, that's probably be for the best.

The refugee crisis would be insane if they were allowed to escape NK alive
>>
>>33938726

Does North Korea even have a surface fleet? I know they got midget subs and fast boats.

Let it be.

The only event like this that pisses me off was the Navy recon plane that collieded with a Chinese jet and then landed at a Chinese airport, giving them our nice fancy electronics and avionics.

If they were able to land safely at an airport 100mi away they could have completed mission or ditched over the ocean without compromising Secret military hardware.

I don't care if they smashed up some hard drives and equipment, the obviously failed to destroy most of it.

That ship has been idle for what, 50-60 years? I doubt anything runs on it.

Fair possibility they pulled them out for use elsewhere. Unlikely they just disabled them.

The security needed along the banks of the river to make it possible constitute an invasion of the North itself, so might as well invade, in which case you don't need to steal her back at all.

South Korean SF dudes are literally insane, they train all their life for the opportunity to go on a suicide mission to kill the Glorious leader.

The incident is why we created the emergency destruction plan. The crew had no clue what to destroy first. They burned the crypto tape but the equipment was compromised. As for viruses, etc. Cant do it because we have to be able to precisely control what targets our cyber weapons hit. Most government level forensics in china are preformed at universities, we are barred from attacking them.

The USS Pueblo is already -- and has continuously been -- effectively fighting a protracted economic battle against North Korea with zero crew. How? Well, consider the cost of simply keeping her:

>North Korea must foot the bill for high-value slip space in a harbor where space is already at a premium;

>It also costs money to scrub & repaint the hull -- especially below the waterline -- which is absolutely necessary for metal vessels in marine (highly saline) environs;

>Not to mention the insurance and eventual *museum* which North Korea no doubt will convert the USS Pueblo into after reading this post -- screencap this -- because of course they are smart enough to understand the huge socio-psychological boon to its people having an enemy warship originally loaded with state of the art spy equipment floating in Pyongyang Bay or wherever the heck they keep it free and open to the public as a museum of North Korea's clearly superior naval doctrine et cetera lol;

>Plus every year she sits idly at anchor is another year North Korea goes with paying for all of the above maintenance costs plus additional expenses instead of just melting her down and selling has scrap metal;

In short, the goddamn norks are too fucking dumb to let go of their stupid dream of having the United States sign its fantastical surrender treaty to North Korea on the deck of the captured USS Pueblo as a super-salty "fuck you" just like Hitler forced the French to sign their surrender declaration on the same train car that the reverse had happened to at the close of the First World War.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banner-class_environmental_research_ship

lets assume its sorta stripped: 550 tons

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_CH-47_Chinook#Specifications_.28CH-47F.29

24,000 lb (10,886 kg) cargo (optimistic for an underslung load) so 12 tons.

It would take 46 Chinooks to lift the Pueblo, if we are rounding up. However its overall size and area would limit the number of Chinooks.

Mi-26 comes in at needing only 25 aircraft.

though the Saturn V could do 155 tons to LEO, so with 4 Saturn Vs, we could launch the Uss Pueblo into an indefinate low earth orbit. though at 620tons of payload, we could probably see it in a semi stable orbit. neat.

Now we just need a highly trained team of navy seals to smuggle 4 saturn V launch systems into north korea, base them around the ship, and launch it....and after all that work

It will be the worlds first....space ship.

Nope. Voter turnout was extremely low. While she got more votes than Trump (inb4 muh illegals), still waaaaay less than 50% of the population.

IIRC we actually had decent voter turnout. Problem is we never see much more than half of eligible voters actually vote. The 50% of voters who think their vote doesn't matter couldn't be more wrong. Hell, if 50% of those non-voters wrote in, let's say Jim Webb, it'd be no contest.
