Why is the .380 usually shit on but the .32 is usually accepted as a less powerful but adequate round?
>>
Same reason .40 is shat on constantly but 9mm gets a pass
>>
>>33913547
I happen to like both, hell even .22 and .25 are fine, also shot placement counts

Which is?
>>
>>33913547

9mm fags shit on anything smaller and 32 users of course put their round as the baseline that is acceptable. 380 people don't post online cause they are too busy getting pussy, like I am. I'm just here ironically.
>>
>>33913547
Because most here cant form an opinion of their own. They repeat what they have read from others who repeat what they have read. My guess is most here have never fired a gun. The rest dont have experience with multiple calibers.
>>
>>33913547
I don't recall anyone saying .32 was good.

The .380 is an old round like the others but gained popularity in Europe because military cartridges are banned for civilian defense in many countries. Since the superior 9mm works well in so many modern designs of the same size it is viewed as a weak compromise round in the US. Beyond that the problem with .380 is the ammo being too weak to reliably expand in jhp on a variety of targets. It was bad enough with early forms of jhp's that people said 'screw it' and loaded fmj's, which still overpenetrate despite being 'weak.' And for some reason it costs as much as .40 now despite being one of the most popular chambers on the market.

The .40 is out because the FBI said so and the muzzle flip is sharper. Police don't like training with it because thousands of rounds add up to joint pain and arthritis after a few years. 9mm works well in almost everything, 40 does not. Pistols built for 9mm that get upscaled to 40 don't handle the recoil well and it really sours some people on it.
>>
>>33913547
Why does the .22 have the little ridges?
>>
>>33915711
Because it isn't a jacketed bullet, it's just electroplated lead.
>>
>>33914019
>9mm fags shit on anything smaller

There's a kernel of legitimacy for that. Sub-9x19 cartridges like .380 and 9x18 cannot have both consistent penetration or expansion. It's one or the other with them.
>>
>>33913547
99.999% of the people who discuss guns and what's good or bad have never even held a gun and just parrot either buck angel or rangetime with stolen valor
>>
nobody shoots 32
>>
Is 007 ever going to upgrade to something more practical than .32? Maybe a Five-Seven or Deagle?
>>
>>33916295
>buck angel
...the transman with the vagina?
>>
>>33916303
He's a spy. He's not supposed to be getting into gunfights, especially with guys wearing body armor.

A .32 suits the cloak and dagger nature of his missions.
>>
>>33916303
Brosnan regularly used a Walther P99.
>>
I think its because most .380 sized guns also have a 9mm version thats the same size. .32 can be made much smaller, everybody understands its a compromise of power for easier concealability, with .380 the tradeoff just isnt good enough.
>>
>>33913547
Because .32 actually gives you an advantage in return for the reduced power. You can get a single stack 9mm with the same capacity and pretty much the same size as a .380. With .32 you can pack a lot more rounds in the same space.
>>
>>33916362

This is a good explanation, however I do think .380 is acceptable in its own right.
>>
>>33916378
It's certainly better than no gun at all. Remember that the best gun is always the one you have with you.
>>
>>33916378
I dont mind .380 really, ive thought about getting one to carry. Just explaining the general trend ive seen
>>
>>33916377
Why doesn't someone develop like a .32 magnum cartridge and then make pocket guns with huge double stack magazines?
>>
>>33916450

there is .327 federal mag.
>>
Because .32 is baller.

Yeah, it's a bit weak, but that means no recoil to follow up with the shitload of rounds your small gun carries.

.380 just does not hold as much, packs a similar punch, and like others have said, can usually be had in 9mm anyway.
>>
>>33916338
But he gets into gunfights every movie. In the most recent one, he shoots down a helicopter.
>>
>>33916490
It's about as long as .357 and is rimmed. It exists so snubbies can carry six shots instead of five with at least 90% of the ballistics.
>>
.380 is just fine. Daily carry lcp 2 an at least 500 rounds through it with No ptoblems. 2 extendo mags that hold 10 and I should be ok right /k/ ?
>>
>>33915280
.380 was introduced before guns were regulated.
>>
>>33916534
And he did it with his PPK.

Honestly, why even bother with anything else if he can take a helicopter with one.
>>
>>33916378
Regardless of caliber effectiveness, a small .380 is better than no at all. And if you're a good shot with it, and it suits your wardrobe, carry it.

Not the anon you're responding to, but I don't understand why that equates to ridges?
>>
>>33916490
Which I love as a revolver cartridge. But I want a semi auto version.
>>
>>33916698
So it can better engage the rifling with no jacket.
>>
>>33916303
Bond carries a PPK/S in 9mm short in Skyfall.
>>
>>33916755
imfdb lists it as a .32

Who is this guy? I like 'em.
>>
>>33913547
Is it?

380 is really good for a simple blowback design. Low energy Enough to not need a super heavy slide, but enough powa for reliability and reasonable stopping powa.

With 9mm cos higher pressure, or anything bigger higher energy pressure, etc. You need heavy af slide (look at hipoint pistol) or a locking mechanism.

This is just a roundabout way of saying, I'm glad 380 exists as someone who builds guns.
>>
>>33916312
yes
joke about James Yeager
>>
>>33916362
the 9mm version of the 2 guns i carry is just too large for comfortable pocket carry, but .380 is just right

I have a PPK, I chose .380 because it's more available and because everything I read said that .32 had inadequate penetration. .380 also has a lot more research going into it since it is a very popular carry round, hell the Hornady XTP rounds do quite well by all accounts.

I picked a PPK just because I wanted a PPK. Served me well for 8 years.

.30 pedersen is a thing
it's about as powerful as 9mm Mak
>>
>>33916450
also speaking about updating .32, probably best course of action would be .32 super (as in .38 acp to .38 super) that is make it rimless and load it hotter
>>
>>33913547
I reject the premise of your question. The groupthink around here seems to be that .380 is the absolute minimum for self-defence.
>>
>>33915280
you do realize .380 was a military round don't you?

joint pain from .40 HA HA HA HA...
>>

says who?

so was the .32, what's your point
>>
>>33916338
Actually Dalton played Bond the best as far as the character goes, Craig looks the most like him and he's full on gunfighter all the fucking time, especially with Craig being the "early" wreckless bond. Brosnan killed everyone and Dalton was cold as fuck
>>
>>33916450
You mean like .32H&R MAGNUM, .327 federal MAGNUM, 7.62x25(close enough) in all its variants and .32NAA

Nah, the major change that need to happen is the bullet selection. Speeding em up by 200-400fps has been done
>>
>>33923544
Dalton looked and acted like book Bond most: intense eyes, shock of receding dark hair, suave with ladies, cold and cruel with his enemies. Bond quips were more dickish and reflecting a meanness that goofy.
>>
>.380acp is usually shit at
/k/ is not a hivemind. 9mm is better unless you live in some commie place that tyrants you from buying it, but the .380acp guns are smaller and more comfortable to carry than 9mm. The difference in power is big but if you believe you have enough chance of needing to use the nine instead of just needing some reasonably powered normal capacity pistol that makes a lighter smaller gun not worth it, maybe you should just move somewhere else?

>.32 usually accepted
No one ever said .32 is good enough. You felt for the stopping power graphic meme that said the .32 has a massive stopping power. I don't have that one anymore. As it said the .32 was almost comparable to 12 gauge I believe it does not represent truth. The ratio of power loss to size loss isn't that favorable to .32acp against the .38spl compared to 9mm/.380 IMO

>tl;dr 9mmfags love benis
>>
>>33923965
Thats fair, I was thinkingoing more of craigs shorter brick shithouse, not blatantly handsome look, but yeah. Book bond vs movie bond through the years is well, you know. Like turning Sam Spade or Philip Marlow into Jason Bourne
>>
>>33913547
it's completely different demographics

tacticool timmies who've been keeping up with the stuff written by industry types usually prefer the 9mm and will barely accept the .380 as a "crappy 9mm" for carrying in formalwear or in a pocket. Usually these guys will sneer at anyone who can't conceal a glock 19 in a suit and will shit talk you for not wanting to carry one day in and day out at work where you could get fired if you get caught.

The kind of people who like .32 are usually fuddy-duddy types or very casual shooters who haven't really paid any attention to recent ballistics research except to use "shot placement" as an excuse for their ignorance about ballistics. This is especially ironic since most of these people have a horrific recoil anticipation flinch that results in watermelon sized, low-left groups even slow firing at short ranges. they usually like to talk about how rapidly they can shoot the .32 due to low recoil, but in reality a good shooter with a 9 can be just as fast or faster at common self-defense distances
>>
>>33916698
I forget what it's called, but the "ridges" are supposed to collapse into each other and expand into the rifling upon being fired. I forget if the butt of the bullet is cupped or not, but that can help too.
>>
>>33913547
Because one of those is really popular right now.

The rule of 4chan is to hate what's popular, for better or worse.

Since when is .32 considered adequate?
