I want to buy a Kimber Pro Raptor, but the negative Feedback for Kimber is kind of turning me off.
Have any of you /k/ommandos had a lot of experience with Kimbers and are willing to chime in?

terrible QC. My dad got one a few years back (not listening to my advice to get a 9mm), and the slide release snapped after 10 rounds.
>>
>>33899639
Did he get it fixed by Kimber or did he have to sit on it?
>>
>>33899675
they sent him a replacement part. It was pretty easy, but the fact that a brand new pistol has parts snap on it is frankly unacceptable. Maybe after 10k rounds, but not 10
>>
>>33899689
Not op. Also not ripping on your dad but any chance he was touching slide release lever just enough to almost engage it? There by breaking it?
>>
>>33899785
that I don't know, as I wasn't with him when the malfunction occurred.
>>
>>33899469
Fuck any 1911 that ships with a plastic msh

original kimbers were ok, ones from the 90s to mid 2000s were shit, new ones are hit and miss. Ive heard some guys say theirs run flawlessly, others say they shit the bed every other magazine
I personally wouldnt trust one as a ccw, when a gun starts to have even a slight bad run in their production its hard to live it down
>>
>>33899639
Wtf. 10 rounds? Goddam
>>
>>33899830
Im a long time dan of 1911s. I own 2 kimbers and totally agree on the msh. I'll go one more step. Fuck 1911s that ship with 7 round mags in 2017
>>
>>33899864

I have around 3600 rounds through it. Had three stove pipes in the first 100, it's run fine since.
>>
>>33899864
>Fuck 1911s that ship with 7 round mags in 2017
Mine did, but it was 2015 and they're flush mags. I don't mind because I like flush mags.
>>
>>33900110
You can buy 8 round flush mags
>>
>>33899469
I used a lumber TL RL at thunder ranch...had 2or 3 stovepipes, only real problem I ever had with it was loose front sight, loc tite fixed it...put over 10 k rounds ( estimate ) its been very reliable and accurate
>>
>>33900761
Effing auto correct! Kimber not lumber
>>
>>33899469
I was shooting with my neighbor and his kimber compact ejected a case that hit him right between the eyes. Good quality ammo, never should have happened.
>>
>>33899469
Kimbers are shit now
Get a Dan Wesson
>>
>>33901188
This.
>>
Kimber Custom II owner here, love the thing. Never had any issues with it. Maybe I just got lucky, but I would buy another kimber.
>>
You all need to learn by your own experiences. Stop listening to internet experts. Both my kimbers run great.
>>
>>33899469
Series II Kimbers made after 2009 are probably fine. The first series ones with the external extractors should be avoided like the plague, and series II guns made before 2009 should also be avoided, but can be sent in to be rebuilt with an improved barrel and feed ramp.

Pretty much any 1911 you could want to buy is going to trigger some autist online, so pick your poison really.

I have a kimber series II that was rebuilt in 2014, which is good, but if I wanted to buy another 1911 at all costs right now I'd buy a Dan Wesson Bob-Tail.
>>
>>33899469

Kimbers are just model 70's. The hammer is light but not long enough for a reactionary single action cock and pull. Fudd dude at the store said to not pull down the hammer but use the slide to cock it or else it would "sear" over time.

tl:dr It s a marked up Model 70 without the ND safety feature of the model 80. Would avoid.
>>
>>33904473
Wrong. All series II Kimbers have the firing pin block drop safety.
>>
>>33904473
100% wrong

I used to have a grand raptor years ago but ended up selling it. The slide on mine started forming rust spots on it despite being oiled and cleaned....it shot just fine but for something I wanted to carry I wasn't about to mess around with corrosion
>>
>>33899469

Those serrations look like absolute shit - they look just like the stippling glock fags do with soldering irons. Why people blow money on Kimber is beyond me.
>>
>>33899469
Kimbers are garbage. Get a Springfield armory 1911
>>
>>33899469
Kimber Warrior and Desert Warrior are both good, but not worth more than 1100 or so.

Kimber Series IIs (ie every other 1911 they make) were hot garbage for the first 10 years they made them, but now have upgraded to generally ok.

The thing to remember is that Kimber sells more 1911s than everyone else combined, so there are a lot of negative anecdotes out there, and this would be true even if they were the best maker in their price range (they aren't).

If you love the look, or are getting a smoking deal, buy. You might end up using the warranty, but this is also true of a Springer, and a Kimber that works will handily outshoot a Springer.

Enjoying my Desert Warrior a lot.
Only problem was my grips loosened themselves off once.
Nothing 2 second with an Allen wrench can't fix.
Granted I got his gun a gift, so I might be more forgiving than with other guns I've purchased myself.

Bought a Kimber Stainless ii at the start of the year. 300 rounds through it so far and its running like a champ.

To be honest senpai, I was torn between Kimber and Springfield. Glad I was went Kimber. Fuck Springfield and what they pulled in Illinois

Says the guy who does not have a Series 80 Colt Government.

OP, I have a Kimber Pro Raptor in 45 ACP and love it. It is a fantastic weapon that has never had a mis-feed.

I also have a mini-Raptor that is my daily carry. It needed a break in period, and starts to have ejection problems after more than 100 rounds. I likes to be clean and oiled. The parts inside are small so they get gummed up easier.

I also have a PSA 1911 in 45 ACP that is not as good as my Kimber. After owning both for several months (I have owned the Kimber for about a year and have put around 2,000 rounds through it) I can safely say the Kimber Pro Raptor is a superior weapon to the regular PSA 1911.

The Kimber Pro Raptor is very accurate, and easy to shoot.
>>
>>33899469
My mom has a raptor and she loves it. I'm not a 1911 connoisseur or anything but to me it seems way overpriced for what it is, unless you want it purely for aesthetics. As long as it's clean and lubed it runs fine and she doesn't really have anything to complain about.
