>Get an SKS
>spend hours getting it cleaned up from all the goddamn cosmoline
>Bolt is impossible to take apart

Any tips /k/? This bolt refuses to come apart. I've soaked the thing in mineral spirits, given it some good hammer whacks, and it will not budge.
>>
>>33891931
Keep whacking at it with an appropriate sized punch. It is, indeed, a bitch to remove.
>>
>>33891964
I never thought I'd have to hit a gun part so hard, but it's out!

Now I just have to hope I can reassemble it.
>>
>>33892075
Its a lot easier to put back together.
Also if you smooth up any rough spots you see itll be a lot easier next time.
>>
>>33892089
Different anon, any tips on the trigger group pins? I've tried the hole-in-wood thing but I'm worried I've peened them.
>>
>>33892075
It'll be a lot easier to get out from now on.

Putting it back together is easy - I just use a pair of pliers to snap the extractor pin back in place.

>>33892173
Penetrating oil and a big hammer.
>>
>>33892191
I'll try the sledgehammer next. That fucker does not want to move.
>>
>>33892205
Tip with hammers: Don't hit it harder, get a bigger hammer.
>>
>>33891931
Since this is an SKS disassembly thread, I have a question: how tough should the gas piston be to move back and forth? I took apart one, and that piston was an absolute pain to move. I figured it should be pretty easy to slide out
>>
Mother fucker, the fucking punch got stuck in the bolt and refuses to come out. I think I should just get a new bolt at this point.
>>
>>33892305
Should slide freely.
Clean your shit yo.
>>33892309
Nooooooo
Put it in a vice pull it out.
>>
>>33892315
It's jammed in there fucking tight. I cannot get it to budge no matter how hard I pull. I stood on both sides of the firing pin and tried to pry it out with the claw end of a hammer and it wouldn't fucking move.
>>
>>33892315
>Clean your shit yo.
It's not mine, yet
>>
>>33892333
Then punch it back out from the other side.
>>33892344
Well then clean it when you get it.
>>
>>33892349
>>>33892333 (You)
>Then punch it back out from the other side.
I'm going to try this.
>>
>>33892384
None of my other punches fit the hole, I'm just going to call it a day. The SKS can wait until next weekend!
>>
>>33892414
Working on the ol' SKS put me in a horrible mood. I am just going to go shoot my revolver and call it a day.
>>
>>33891931
Use a center punch to push out the pin. When I bought a new Hi-Power I was in the same situation with the trigger pin. I used a center punch and it came out effortlessly.
>>
>>33892191
I tried soaking mine in penetrating oil for 24 hours and then the big hammer and a punch - didn't work and I bent my punch >.>

I even made a stand to hold the bolt in place while I tried to take it apart.

Any suggestions?

Not OP obviously
Its a Yugo SKS
>>
>>33892434
Welp, can't shoot the revolver since the range closes at 8. I'm just going to drink some beers and chill.

>tfw can't shoot guns at this hour
>>
submerge in heated kroil for 48 hours.
>>
>>33891931
Why the fuck are detail stripping your sks? Are you highly autistic and obsessed with knowing how something works?
>>
>>33892707
Just bought it. It was covered in cosmoline. I wanted to make sure it wasn't gummed up.
>>
Put it in boiling water and the cosmoline should melt off
>>
>>33891931
You really have to beat this shit out of it. I had to hit mine so hard that I was worried it would cause damage.

Pro tip: file it down a little bit with some emory cloth and it won't be so bad in the future. Keeping an SKS bolt clean is very important to prevent slamfires
>>
>>33893699
>he wants to prevent slamfires

what a faggot
>>
>>33891931
Brb never buying a sks

Three years on, reading this is funny. I couldn't get the bolt apart on my SKS when I bought it either. So I sent it in to Murray's in Texas, who specializes in drilling out, and adding in some pot metal recoil spring addition to the bolt, to pay him three dollars to do it for me. I didn't ask for the addition, even though he pushed for it.

The fat fucker had the audacity to charge me an extra $1.50 for two day shipping, which I didn't ask for either, after he took it apart for me.

Still haven't taken the bolt apart either, thousands of rounds later. I'll deal with slamfires, I ain't dealing with the pin.

The thing on top is the fucking push pin that's stuck.

It looks the same now but it's even more bent.

Cripes.
>>
>>33894169
the little pin is much easier getting out after the first time trust me

starter punch.jpg
2MB, 3072x2304px
for stuck pins you need a starter punch in addition to a standard punch
>>
>>33894523
I spent a good 10 minutes banging on it with a hammer, this fucker is stuck tighter than the original was.
>>
Update on the stuck push pin. After banging at it more and trying a few more times to pull it out with the claw of a hammer, I took a crescent wrench, wrapped it around the push pin and twisted. It came right out.
