Probably some sort of artillery round. Could still go off even after all these years, it just really depends on the round and where it's been. The hole rusted in it could either be good or bad, but probably means the explosive agent has been deteriorated by water and shit. Still wouldn't go throwing it around.

Unless it's a hardcore collector and that thing is rare as fuck, probably nobody is going to want it. If you want to get rid of it without destroying it look into museums, they might want it.

The fuze visually appears at least marginally intact, so be fucking careful with it. Call EOD if your country has something like that.

That's what I meant. Cops are going to destroy it, 100%. There is a chance they'll even do it on your property, depending on what the EOD guys say. Also going back out in the woods and leaving it is destroying it.

Only way for it not to be destroyed is if you keep it, or a museum takes it.

Which really isn't too big a deal, it's one of probably hundreds of thousands of artillery rounds. Unless, by some miracle, it's horribly rare, nobody is really going to miss it.

Be hard to ID it more specifically. Austria-Hungary, Italy, and Germany all used 15cm heavy howitzers in WWI and Italy and Germany used them again in WW2.

Update: just spoke to my dad. Apparently it belonged to his mother's cousin (so probably WW1). The hole was APPARENTLY practised to extract the powder, so it should be empty now altough he's not sure. Anyway we just sent the cop a pic and will have him come over to evaluate.
