Newly minted gunfag here, worth buying a nugget for fun/hunting? Kinda pissed I missed getting one when they were like $100 but oh well, they're still pretty cheap. What country of origin/production year should I look for? What's a good price? And can I put a scope on it?
Either Finnish or pre bolshevik, and as for a scope, no

The only reason to buy one now is because you like its history - in WWII, in 4chan lore, or both. If that's the case, then go for it. If not, you can get better rifles for the same or not much more. Expect prices to average around $250 for an everyday example, and more for extra nice/rare ones like Finns or 91/59s.

>better rifles for the same or not much more
Like what?

Unless you want a nugget solely for it being a nugget then no.
I actually bought a nugget after they got expensive because I enjoyed shooting an acquaintances nugget.
I don't regret my purchase but fully understand why others who wanted a cheap rifle would.

If you're just looking for a raifu, an AR. If you want a bolt gun, a Savage Axis II. If you want a milsurp, a Spanish or Turk Mauser.

Nuggets are fine for hunting.

I went to the gun store the other day and the guy was saying I needed to buy other rounds for hunting because I have surplus rounds because " surplus rounds are _____ ". Is that true or nah.

>Spanish Mauser
>better than a nugget
Fuck no.
They are literally the only Mauser that is WORSE than a nugget.

Surplus 54R is FMJ, you can't use FMJ for hunting.
Soft points in 54R are widely available.

$80 cheaper and in fine shape mechanically. Mine fires with no problem. Needs some restoration, which is in its future, but rifle is fine.
