How is a shotgun viable for home defense when shooting a shotgun

Because I don't live in a horrifying ghetto where I'll have to fire my shotgun inside and without earpro over and over and over again every single day. Once or twice will hurt a little, but is unlikely to do any lasting damage. It's repeated exposure that gets you.

Any unsuppressed firearm suitable for self defense will give you hearing damage if you shoot it indoors. The good news is that you'll be alive to be annoyed by it.

My dad was one of the guys waving the wands on an aircraft carrier flight deck when the first started flying jet aircraft off of them. My HD setup is an AR with a full mag of Winchester PDX1 defenders and a backup mag of XM193 in a soft guitar case (next to a bunch of other soft guitar cases so it doesn't stand out.) How well off am I?

Thinking about either setting up my Glock 19 for nightstand use or getting a police trade in full sized gun with a light on it to just relegate to nightstand use because in an HD scenerio I'd want a full sized handgun.
