>"The one with the rifle shoots! The one without, follows him! When the one with the rifle gets killed, the one who is following picks up the rifle and shoots!"

Did this actually happen?
>>
>>33860723
yes
>>
>>33860723
no
>>
maybe so
>>
>>33860723
maybe
>>
>>33860723
They did have equipment shortages.
>>
how should i know?
>>
probably
>>
>>33860723
No, it was from some mistranslated newspaper report.

Conscripts were being handed rifles and ammunition, but before that, some of them were also handed Maxim belts and told to follow the machinegunners and help them, including using the gun if they fell.

I wonder who could be behind this?
>>
>>33860723
In the first world war, it did.
>>
>>33860723
Yea but you need to go through some trenches first, just hang in there an you can play as a tanker soon
>>
>>33860723
i kinda wanna buy a mosin nagant cause of that movie
>>
>>33860723
At Stalingrad? The opposite- they had plenty of rifles but a shortage of ammo. So much so the decision to convert Nugget barrels into Papasha ones was a non issue, since they had surplus and SMGs were in higher demand in the city

Early in the German invasion it was worse, some units were still waiting for their new gear after Stalin's reforms post Talvisota. Battalions of 1000 men with a hundred rifles and a handful of machine guns and AT rifles, if they were lucky
>>
>>33860723
I read that it happened in a few battle but once production ramped up things changed, the mosin nagant is a cheap rifle for a reason.
>>
If it did it would have been from logistical difficulties rather than a lack of production.

I suppose they might have had problems getting supplies across the river during the heaviest fighting. If a bunch of cannon-fodder showed up without enough equipment they might have been thrown into a counterattack if need be. Stalinist USSR still did not value human life very much, even if it's exaggerated in some movies and games.

russian propaganda: the movie

it's sad because russian war movies have great premise but they fuck it up with pure absurdness.

brest fortress, stalingrad (2013,) and 9th company. all movies with great premise yet fucked up due to retarded battle scenes/raw propaganda.
>>
>>33863629
Lmfao and American movies aren't pure propaganda?
>>
>>33860906
>In the first world war, it did.

Russia was still a tsardom back then, they didn't have shortages for shit.

Just watched i this saturday
Great film
Anyone has any good ww2 films to watched? I already watched this, fury, hacksaw ridge and the german series generation war. I am also in the middle of watching band of brothers but im watching with a parther so it takes some time.
>>
>>33860723
It happened in the first call of duty which is historically accurate, so I would say yes.

>>
>>33860780
Isn't that called a MG team?
>>
>>33865623
I cant be the only one who found fury underwhelming right?
Seems they cobbled a script together for the excuse of filming with legit tanks, which I'm okay with.
>>
>>33861068
I did just that, and watch it on average once a year while fondling it
>>
>>33865608

>>
>>33865608

>>

yeah
they sent criminals as shock troops
penal battalions
>>
>>33867356
Came here to say this. This is where the whole 'fighting without weapons' and 'officers shooting their own retreating troops' meme came from.

Prisoners/criminals/POWs and other undesirables sent in so that actual infantry could establish positions/flank.
>>
>>33865600
Nigger, russia ordered every rifle they could get because of the horrendous equipment shortages in WW1. M1895 in 7.62X54R,Arisakas,Remington Mosins, even fucking Chauchat's
>>
>>33867293
No, I watched it a year or two ago back when /k/ had movie nights. I wasn't following it too closely because I was drunk and we were memeing in the side chat, but that was apparently their last desperate gamble to kill the evil facist bastards before they got overrun or something I dunno.

fucking good. very gritty and realistic. There's like a 4 hour version of it. watched it with a buddy when i was in finland. Also went innawoods to some winter war bunkers and shit.

I don't know

historian here, can confirm.
The soviet bolcheviks were notorious to use those human wave tactics.

In a fair combat situation, wehrmacht troops (thanks to their arian warrior genes) always won against those mongolian hordes.

Warsaw Uprising in 1944. 25% of insurgents were armed, 1 in 12 had a weapon that wasn't horribly outdated.

Get on my level, Ivan.

>>
>>33866733
No, you're not. I watched an interview with an actual US American WW2 veteran who was a Sherman tank commander who fought against the SS in the Normandy invasion and he said the tank crew would have been lucky to get just two or three Germans before the tank would have been destroyed. The SS were professionals.

I wonder how easily one became an "Undesirable?"

Maybe the government there had an undesirable quota to keep so they could always have suicide troops like these.

Also, I think just being Ukrainian was automatic undesirable-status.

Don't get me wrong, there is some minor stuff I like, but overall... Fuck Russia, fuck the Soviets, fuck em.
>>
>>33867380
Where did the POW suicide troops hail from? Seems like a strange situation.

no problem. Another good foreign made WWII film is Soldaat van Oranje (Soldier of Orange). Cool Dutch made film by Veerhoeven, with a young Rutger Hauer. If anyone's interested.

A capacity for taking the initiative, or sometimes just general competence, or not kissing the right ass enough would all be good ways of being seen as undesirable. Or being seen as undesirable for that matter. Pouty likes his Homo sovieticus.

>>33860723
I believe that penal regiments could be that disposable, but I don't remember sources.

The logic went like, "instead of spending a bullet to kill this traitor/coward/german, let's have the enemy spend his bullets on them".
