Can someone explain the difference between Force recon and MARSOC in the USMC to me??
>>33855223
Force Recon is like the Calvary Scout in the Army, but not retarded and way cooler as Force Recon usually scouts out landing sites, enemy command and control centers and then calls in air/naval gunfire. The Calvary Scout just rides around and thinks he's the successor to old style Calvary, while being Infantry. In short a delusional faggot.

Force recon was turned into raider battalions and the they made those into marsoc. There is still a force recon but they are smaller then marsoc and their focus is on recon.

In very simplistic terms, Force Recon is like 75th Ranger Regiment in the 1980s while MARSOC is Special Forces.

When your goal is to increase the scope of the marine corps mission so that you get more funding and get picked to so all the deployments then you don't want to make it physically unattainable for above average capable Marines. Not everyone can run super fucking fast with a pack on.

My buddy did force recon and dropped because he had a bone fracture in his leg the last week of training.
So he dropped and became an 0311 after his medsep. Said it was the best thing that ever happened to him. He landed our unit and saw probably more combat than most of them ever see. Was a different time, the Surge, Helmand, sinjar, ubaydi.

had a thread about this yesterday. RM are special forces not regular infantry
>>33855772
RM aren't special forces, not by a long shot.
But they're damn good infantry, hence why they're grouped into 'Elite Infantry' and not SOF. They're a commando group, it sort of speaks for itself.

yeah which is why they arent comparable. they are closer to the what army rangers are. the USMC is basically an entire military packed into one group

>RM are special forces not regular infantry
No, they do the exact same infantry training that any British infantry battalion gets with the addition of the commando training, the commando training itself does not give them extra trigger time.
Marsoc is part of the socom, and is at all effect a SOF unit, force recon since the creation of marsoc has been kept to more regular tasks, they mainly train for maritime operations. Basically the usmc wanted their own place in socom, so marsoc (now renamed marine raiders after the ww2 unit) was created back in 2006. They conduct direct action operations, combat patrols, humnit, etc. like other sof units as rangers or army sf
