the age-old question:

MSA Sordin or Peltor and why? especially for those of us with gigantic and babby heads.

Comtacs are the Porsche of 2 way comms. So if you're serious about larping with friends and roasting eachother over comms then comtacs. Idk about sizing, check their sizing guide.

they're one-size-fits-all and i've heard stories of the MSAs squeezing your dome even without wearing it under a helmet.

also are microphones retrofitable? i don't think i need comms now, but never say never.

Most likely not. Some vests will have pockets for a smaller trauma plate in the center but its not really a SAPI plate or similar.

Found this on random browsing on other parts of the internet. This dude is packing by his own account 150+ pounds of gear. Supposedly this is for 7 days, but in my own humble opinion, this guy is overpacking by at least half.

why two pistols that don't even use the same magazines?
>>
>>33828097
I noticed that as well. This was from a sniper/wannabe forum and I suuuuuuuuppose I could see some logic to carrying a carbine and dedicated bolt gun, though myself personally I'd just pick one gun and be done with it.

He's got three old style aidbags. A PASGT vest for a "recce" type loadout. An M40 mask for reasons. Non-stripped MREs. 7(?) pistol mags. Just like a lot of shit.

I was a soldier, though I never was not recce/sniper guy, so this seemed wrong as fuck to me but I didn't want to come straight out with it.
>>
>>33828149

All the guys in the thread are jerking eachother off with the old "pack light, freeze at night" adage to anybody who even suspects he overpacked.

Problem is he didn't actually pack much in the weight of survival gear, so it's just kind of carrying a fuckload of stuff. Maybe he plans on setting up an expedient surplus store.

not to mention i don't see any boltgun ammo. unless it's in that little zipped pouch by the buttstock, at which point i'd guess that holds about 15-20 rounds. which isn't much given that he's probably got a 5 round internal magazine.

Not too bad friendo. I skipped college and went into working. First years were a wash but now I'm a soulless salesman. On paper I make $110k a year with a high schooler education but after being ruthlessly butt fucked until I bleed and sob by the gubmint I make closer to 90k working 45hr/wk.

I don't do buckles for access on this type of gear. Especially not on an ifak. My reasoning is, if it's me who's injured, I'm going to be a shaky fuck. So I want the simplest access possible to an ifak, so long as it's secured.

A lot of the quality gear that is out there is geared towards mil and le, and they are very rarely alone. So a lot of shit is made with the mindset that these individuals are in groups, especially with medical gear. The consensus with ifak's in mil(idk about le) is that the one that is on you, is meant to be used on you, almost always by someone else. So to me, the majority of ifaks are made to be used by someone else, not the person who is possibly bleeding out. I like to have all my gear useable by me, because i have no idea if I will be by myself when/if I have to use it. not that any of it matters because I'll probably never have to use any of my shit, hopefully.

i wear a flight suit daily for work. i know there are dudes who wore them before flash/flame gear was common.

it's decently breathable and thin, and super comfy when broken in, but it's not super durable. the flash/flame protection gets washed out after a few laundry cycles too.

also you have to take everything off to take a dump.

>so guessing Hill People Gear or Kifaru insulated poncho liners must not mean a thing, or down ones...

Hey man, I'm just reporting on the saying. I'm right there with you; I may have just been a lowly Joe, but I know enough to recognize that most people who repeat that saying are guys who are overpacking.

Even without the newfangled Hill People Gear or Kifaru Gucci stuff, somebody can pack fairly light with GI gear and common, cheap camping gear and be totally set in anything but an extreme cold environment.
>>
>>33837979

Nahnah, no fault on you, didn't mean to make it seem that way.

And you're right, even without gucci stuff, people can survive enough with what clothing is on them depending on the weather.
>>
>>33838002
My long time go-tos for warmth in the field have been woobie, Black Gen-1 GI Fleece jacket, wool aftermarket watchcap, microfiber towel (like a shemagh but better at night), waffletop shirt, changes of socks (to prevent sweat from getting chilled inside the boot, and just socks in general are good), some heavy gloves to go atop lightweight tactical gloves, and disposable handwarmers. Fire starting stuff. Tarp if I've got my full ruck with me. I get nagged on survialist forums for not having a groundpad and a bunch of other shit, but I'm used to sleeping in overnight positions where you are pretty much just sleeping on/off with shifts and nobody is making a camping trip of things. Really never had much time to use a ground pad in a tactical position on a 3ish day outing.

That's "on the move" stuff, obviously a lot more stuff comes along to a dedicated long term position, but I ain't carrying all my extras on my body.

>>
>>33838095

I appreciate the info, I'm always on the lookout for alternatives. Right now I'm just relying on a wool blanket, beanie, some socks and 3-in-1 jacket for warmth and protection from light rain.

I'm going to cut up a zlite sol sleeping pad to use as a torso pad; I've never used sleeping pads before so I'd like to see if it's worth strapping to the bottom of my pack.

>>33838105

How'd you know I was gonna make a new run of ME2 literally just now?
>>
>>33838259
I've found sleeping pads to be of much more use in civilian life than operationally, funny enough.

I need them not for warmth, but for padding. In operational operations, aside from being in situations where I didn't build a camp, the ground was never particularly over used so you could find decent spots. In civilian camping, anywhere you go has been trampled down and camped on by god knows how many people. It's like sleeping on aspalt with rocks sticking out of it sometimes on the more used locations.

Another camping dealie is an inflatable camping pillow. It makes a world of difference not to have to sleep on you hands or a balled up jacket.

Get a ruck cover. It will do you more good in the long run.

My belt needs to be reworked. I am moving from a platoon medic role with this gear, to this just being range stuff. Maybe I should just go to a gunfighter belt. Anyone here have experience loading 2 rifle mags, 2 pistol mags, a pistol, and an IFAK on something like that?
>>
>>33838476
I've have various loads on smaller belts. Currently using a duty belt rocking handgun, 1 rifle/1 pistol mag in a TACO, multitool, 4 shotshells, dump pouch, and medical pouch. I've got an all velcro lined inner belt that goes in my beltloops and sticks to the velcro lined inner of the duty belt.

Couldn't be happier with it. Getting comfortable stripping off excess mags was one of the best transitions I ever made. Past those first mags, everything is either on a chest rig (for full autism mode) or in a rangebag. It's wonderful and freeing to have a lightned up belt.

If you want solid color get 5.11 pants or some wrangler riggs, or even fire hose pants

What I mean to say is that most survivalist forums will make a bigger deal about the fact that it insulates your body from the dirt so that you don't get cold. Which is true, you want a separation between yourself and the ground in cold weather, but it's something that is massively overblown. Peeps on the internet act like you'll freeze to death in temperate woodlands without a groundpad.

Many moons ago there was a simple chestrig produced by comstock(?) tactical (or something close to that name iirc) they were basically a strip of fabric with a strip of stretch elastic material sewn to the backer fabric to create basically a big blueforcegear tenspeed rig. The guy was hand manufacturing them for cheap $30-$40. An extremely simple chestrig design for someone starting off. I can draw an image if you care.

>>33841254
Yeah, I know, but I'm old and my knees are getting more and more fucked, so it's a matter of trading away permanent worsening of injury in favor of a few hours of sweaty tight grossness.

sorry, Im new to the gear scene. every other time I have seen molle it has a lot more straps. What can I even put there? it seems like an odd place to add another pack/accessory

No they aren't. The spacing is off. If you look at the middle of the rows, there appears to be stitching that is about an inch wide. So that would have any molle attachments running wide.
>>
>>33841328
Something 2x2 or smaller. A multitool, flashlight, little ALICE shoulder pouch, admin panel, etc.

It might be a DIY job, since I've never seen a canvas mini-ALICE with webbing on top. But there are a lot of knockoff little producers so one of them might have made it like that.

>>
>>33841436
Oh for fuck's sake. That's a very standard way to sew in the ends of webbing. I knew dudes able to do that after like a month of practice.

And it being the same material still doesn't mean anything about it being a from-the-factory fuckup.

Seriously man, it's just some shitty MOLLE. Walk around a cheapass gun show enough and you'll see stuff like this.
>>
>>33840678
It shouldn't, but if you want it super hi speed you can add a single leg strap to the bottom bit of the holster to keep it in place at the bottom, and some sort of stoppers on the Ronin so it doesn't move up top. Honestly though it should stay in place just fine.

Yes, you are correct it is. What does that have to do with the fact that it's been done the same way in the middle, making it impossible to mount a molle pouch.

Do you literally have any molle webbing, anywhere? Pick it up, and you will see that the spacing between the loops is a single vertical stitch. If this was a home brew, or just shitty manufacturing, why would it be an X! With a square around it, just like the ends, and not just a crooked stitch?

>oh for fucks sake

You need to go to bed, you've got school in the morning.
>>
>>33841436
Here, look I found the fucking thing. It's a $30 cheapo. Look how much closer the webbing is in the picture on the storepage than anon's pack. In the photo the webbing is one webbing's width apart like PALS usually is. It's just a shitty QC job on a cheap bag.

Current doesn't look bad tbqh. One thing to keep in mind with the qls system is that it adds a bit of bulk to the holster, so it'll be more offset from your body than without it. But the midride will be a much easier draw w your chest rig on than a regular belt clamp.

As much as I think the War on Drugs is misguided, unjust, and, all-in-all, a catastrophic failure, I bet being LAPD SWAT would be a pretty interesting gig. I should be a SWAT medic.

I want to open carry

I always fumble the button/lever on retention holsters but I'm too afraid of getting trayvoned

wat do
>>
>>33838476
what admin pouch is that?
>>
>>33843767
Examine why you want to open carry. Consider that other people's opinions and reactions are of little value or interest.
Carry concealed in a good holster.
Post the same picture of it in every EDC thread.

That is a Condor map pouch I picked up to store assorted cheat cards, pens, chemlights, and the like. I'm worked out pretty well. There is one of those terribad Condor grenade picked behind it with my compass in it. I like to think of my right commerbund as the Condor ghetto.

Unfortunately not yet, ETS pushed their magazine release date until mid May, so we will see. Im considering getting the G19 with front slide serrations this summer when it comes out, so I might just buy a holster for that and put that on the belt.

Gear has taken the back burner right now, because Im building an AR and finishing some tattoo's so money has been re routed for that. But, things are always in the works..

>>33842325
I wasn't really even planning on getting it, just popped up on one of their 50% off sales, and figured might as well. Overall, happy with it.

BFG LMAC on sale right now but the only color in Medium is Multicam.

I'm debating whether or not I should get it in Multicam. Or just hold off for now. I'd rather have something in ranger green or coyote, something more subdued and less flashy, but the price is pretty good.

What do?

Civilian-made ACOGs should still have bible verses on them as far as I know.

If it's like the rest of their Multicam gear, the photos on their website are way brighter than it is in reality simply because the pictures are take in a lightbox rather than out in nature. It should be fine.

What kind of wait time for crye G3 pants?
>>
>>33847448
From CTOMS I waited about 6 weeks. Granted they told me that my size was out of stock when I ordered and told me 6 weeks and they came 2 days before the date they originally thought but from Crye themselves maybe 2-4 weeks tops.
>>
>>33847628
We'll here is another one for you. G3 vs G2?
And why are 2's so expensive? Just because they aren't made anymore?
>>
>>33847650
2's are expensive because muh Iraq war SOF cosplay.
Also more rare in the civvie market.

G3 vs G2. G3, obviously. Stretch panels are better, knee and arm pads are better, and the cut's tighter.

They're both basically the same so just buy whatever's cheaper that you come across. Just for the love of god don't buy G2.5's with those absolutely retarded elbow pads.

I talked to some of the Crye marketing guys a week ago and talked about the G4's, no release date or real info but they look interesting. All I'll say is a combat pant is a combat pant and a combat shirt is a combat shirt when it comes down to it but whenever there's more info about them I'm sure I can go more in depth.

I'm looking at the Tyr Gunfighter.

Are there other options for this smaller style MOLLE belt? Looking for an "over-the-pants belt" option for wear with BDU style uniform.

you can literally go buy a set of crye fields for 70-100 dollars on ebay. if you cant afford that youre a fucking poor fag lmao
>>
>>33847958
That Tyr you just posted, Ronin belts, AWS LAB belt are the few you should be looking at. Also none of those are over the pants belts, they're just a two belt belt. One purely velco inner belt and an outer PALS belt.
>>
>>33826593
Figure I'd ask here since this is an always active thread....anyone got that pic of the dude with his cock in the M1 garand posted here years ago? thx
>>
>>33848015

I know, I meant that you'd have your uniform belt through your pant loops (riggers belt), then that style belt over your pants belt. I know the Ronin is a system where you put one belt through the pant loops and then the outer belt over that, but my uniform doesn't work that way and in cold weather that system doesn't work period.
>>
>>33847958
Tyr is the only one I know of that you can get the padding with it.

because fuck you thats why

and also I have an insulin pump which i like to carry iwb because the tube freaks me out having it out and snaggable so I dont want my gun iwb anymore

G3 shirts are cut looser, G3 pants are cut tighter. Overall I like G3 shirts and AC pants for the baggy cut. AC also has the a e s t h e t i c supperiority in my opinion. Here in arizona the baggyness is good for dispersing heat, which is invaluable. Overall all cryes are good, find what makes your dick tingle and use it to trigger people.

Same person. I have marpat that I have and use, I think it works well.(I'm in central ky knobby hills area, full of woods) but you don't have to buy cryes, truspec makes some too, for a lot cheaper. Semapo makes cheaper cost crye copies. A few others too.
