I keep hearing people say that the Panther was a copied of the T-34, but was it really?
>>
Same type of idiots that claim ak47 is mkb/stg/mp44 copy.

Form follows function.

Now on the other hand, the Russians did directly steal and build their own B-52 bomber because of espionage.

No
>>
>>33821418
B-29, not B-52
>>

It was partly inspired by VK 30.02 which is t34 copy
t.WoT expert
>>
It was heavily influenced by the T-34, but not a copy.

The Germans got a nasty shock during Barbarossa with the T-34 (and KV), which was pretty much invulnerable to most of the German forces during 1941. The sloped armour was the main thing that influenced its design, everything else tends to be just typical German overengineering.
>>
Lets list the similarities!

-Sloped front armor

And uh, thats it
>>

After T-34 was shitting on German PzIIIs left and right, they held a competition to make new medium tank.

Look up the V 30.01 and VK30.02. the 01 looks like a T-34 that's been germanized. 02 is panther prototype. They rejected the 01 for whatever stupidity, and then did the typical German thing and took what should have been a 34 ton medium tank and made it 51 tons.

It proceeded to get about 40% reliability rates, and still got shit on by Sherman and T-34-85s.

KV-1 was basically invulnerable from the front but the T-34's were vulnerable to the L/48 7.5cm guns which were in use at the time. Hell if a KV-1 got too close to a L/48 it was getting knocked out no matter what.
>>
>>33821502
Sorry, correction, it was the 30.02D and 30.02M respectively.

I assume by the L/48 length guns you're referring to the KwK40? Those absolutely could deal with the T-34 and KV-1, but they were not actually in service during Barbarossa. They were first fitted I believe in 1942.

The early model Pz.IVs and STuGs were armed with the shorter snub-nosed KwK37, which was originally designed as an infantry support gun. It was not capable of dealing with the 34 or KV-1, but it did later on have a HEAT shell designed for it with better armour penetration.

That said though the Germans did have some guns in 1941 that could deal with the Soviet bad boys. The obvious one is the FlaK36, either in stationary mounts or self-propelled versions mounted on halftracks. As well as this, pretty much any large-calibre artillery piece can obliterate most tanks with sheer high-explosive force.

>KV-1 was basically invulnerable from the front
Long 50mm guns could penetrate them from relatively close distance. Pak 38s and the long gun Pz 3 J/L were capable.

T-34/76 L11 is cute.
>>
>>33821418
Pretty sure it was a b29 and they got their little commie hands on one when a burger pilot landed there after getting damaged over Japan

The T-34 is like herpes.
>>
>>33821411
Not really, although it was probably an inspiration.

However, the suspension and transmission were totally different and it had a lot of German-isms
>>
>>33821456
Which is why they lose most of them to 50mm guns. Fucking 37mm guns killed more T-34s by Soviet estimates than 88mm guns.
>>
>>33822525
What tank is that on the upper right?

What about VK 30.02 (DB)?
>>
>>33821411

All fucking tanks look like any other fucking tank. The only difference is quality of material used.
>>
>>33821750
That the KV-1 didn't have a better gun (dual purpose mind you, so no KV-2 ) than T-34 (or in some cases, the shittier shorter 76!) certainly didn't help.
