Command can't trust grunts not to fuck up everything in the process of doing simple shit so now we have to use an undermanned SOF group to do it along with contractors. All the shit SEALs, Berets, Rangers and whatever the fuck was shit that people were doing in WW2 onwards until the Gulf War. Now you can't even trust a rifle platoon to capture/kill HVTs without raping and pillaging villages the higher ups absolutely promised nothing bad would happen to.

It was a way to weed out more specific people. Failures werent looked at differently. The ones who passed were. You had many with different mentality. Some wanted to prove themselves, others saw it as a way to advance, some wanted to become best of the best, etc.

Leadership then had to weed out the difference of each and use them correctly. A guy who will run into fire without fear was not very useful outside of a few missions. They wanted people in the best shape with the best personality for the mission. Looking through 5000 people is rough, slim it down to 200. Now you get a good idea of who you want on an operation.
