I live in the northwestern badlands and need something to protect my scrapping operation.
Used to be in the service area for fuji-sinapet Corp security due their arcology being just up the road about 50 klicks but times are hard for the company so they stopped policing outside that dome of theirs.
Anyway, the local trading post has a refurbished suit with aftermarket joint armor, battle computer from one of the newer russian GAZ suits and the rare factory option laser designator/rangefinder.
All for 1,250 credits
They also offered to throw in an old m240 and a 4 shot pepperbox for beam riding minimissles for 500 creds more

Dont. Type 60s are known to have issues with pinching without the correct under-suit. So unless you like to bleed around the elbows and knee area, always make sure the Type 60 comes with the correct undersuit (I know Type 5 series are able to interface correctly).

Or if you have money you can buy secondhand Russian GAZ-15s.
>>
well we kinda do live in the start of cyberpunk world.
its not quite as coop as fiction though.

I'm a government goon right now, but 10 years from now I'll be experimenting extensively drug reistant fatal strain of gonnerrea god sent to smite the trannies I'll carry a p30sk with a pinkie mag extension then, because it'll be so hot by then I can wear shorts and a tshirt almost year round and cant hide anything bigger
>>
>>33807629
Seconding what this guy said. Get a good undersuit.

My squad used Type 60 armor for a while and though they were good protection for the money, we ditched them for the Zastava R3 series exosuits once they did their second production run with the comm suite upgrade.

Yeah. That's a thing. Why? Because fuck armor plating. That's why.
In all reality his would be an absolute backup piece because it actually doesn't fare much better than .25 ACP.
I'd give something like a Five seveN a try or a good old Tokerev for a real sodearm choice.

>>
>>33807965
Let me correct myself.

It has the terminal ballistics of .25 ACP (or at least is close to it)

However due to the geometry it's capable of penetrating a damn good bit of Kevlar.

And the pistol is the PSM.
>>
>>33807629
Save and get yourself a GAZ-15. The price on refurbished units has come way down since the 15-2 came out last year, so it should be easier to get your hands on one and they're simple to maintain and upgrade.

>>
>>33807629
>without the correct undershot they pinch

Uhh, guys?
What if someone here got issued one?
Hypothetically?
And what if, hypothetically, the company bean counters are cheap bastards who bought aftermarket liners?

Any aftermarket liner brands I should watch for that are particularly bad?
It's my first job that has a suit involved and I'm not terribly familiar.
I'm >>33807948 btw.
>>
>>33808143
Undersuits mean life or death in dangerous environments.

So many different powersuit models tossed by the Chinese range from very good to absolute dogshit waste of resource nonsense. Norincos make good shit but they tend to be alarmingly specific with parts at least until the newer Type 84s. For undersuits most Chinese ones are either padded synthetics or newer ones being low-viscosity liquid filled ones. Type 60s require Type 5 synthethic suits. DONT BUY A TYPE 5 WITH QUANTUM JACKS THEY WILL NOT WORK IT IS NOT COMPATABLE.

Now American, European and Russian suits are a whole different beast. Any good enough security company worth their salt would fight tooth and nail to get the General Electric Minuteman 300 series with variable viscosity gel undersuits. BAE is fielding an affordable Gen 4 and the Russians are now throwing out newer stuff like the Zastava R6 and GAZ-23s.

Don't buy Indian. They suck. They obviously dont care about solid waste recyclable systems and they always have crappy quality.

They've got a lot of refinement to do on those before I'd trust one. Power distribution is buggy for one and the switch from ceramic to polymer armor without changing gyro software means those things over correct like a bastard during power assisted maneuvers.

>>
>>33808143
Check the manufactuer label. Chinese usually imprint with a permanent (in theory) label. If your label says Type 5 and is from the following:

>AVIC
>CETC
>Norinco

Then you should be fine. Otherwise aftermarket suits tend to be more simple and less rugged. Be sure the Type 5 does not have quantum jacks.

>>33808263
They seriously dont. There was a bunch of guys from India who clearly were equipped with good Indian gear but all of them...and I mean all of them had to use the bathroom at some point. What good is it to have the ability to eat inside the helmet hands free if you cant fucking shit it out hours later? Fuckers reeked of poo after every long range mission i swear to god...

>>33808269
From what I heard, the software is slated to be upgraded with the new GAZ-23A. When the 23As come out, the original 23 will get a simple software upgrade to update the gyro and actuator computers as well as a host of other shit. You can in theory physically upgrade the 23 into a full GAZ-23A too but that requires money...
>>
>>33807083
I tried out a buddy's once. Mind you his was brand new and it seemed to work pretty good. Motor control around the wrists was a bit slow but all-in-all quite smooth. The chinese mil type 64A can be had for 900-1000 credits at some junkers in Zone 12. I've never used it, but their base for the design was type 60. 64A has better firmware and more homebrew code options as well.

An update, checked the undersuit on the type 60 and the only marking was "HONYWEL MFG." on the inside of the collar.
needless to say, I passed.
Stopped by a scrapper in the next settlement and he had a suit in my price range though I've never heard of the brand. The junkman had no idea what it is either, just that it's probably russian.
The only decipherable markings are ROSTEK and the number 71 the rest is chinese or Cyrillic. It's a heavier suit then I was originally considering but for 950 credits I'm not complaining. It apparently runs off radioisotope batteries?
The scrapper said they should last about 10 years with moderate use and if I need another one I could pick one up in Seattle.
It's got a built in PKM and grenade launcher and has 2 heavy and 2 medium hardpoints.
Original battle computer is replaced with a thales cockerel V set and the heavy leg servos have been replaced with GM powerflex servos from a heavy commercial suit.
I'm very temped, the thing's almost like a small mech!
armor seems very thick, it's high strength alloy supplemented with ceramic in places, not an ounce of plastic on the thing.
Did I mention it has generation 3+ night vision?
All in all, seems like a hell of a deal.

if you work with American companies most of the time their equipment uses non-radioactive battery packs. If the suit requires radioisotope batteries they tend to shove or retrofit them to use conventional ones.

Turkish M9s are just your run of the mill stationary combat networked mine.

Now the Turkish M10s and M11s are what your talking about. The scurry about, bury then unbury themselves. They got the same shape as the M9s and all the gizmos and tricks.

The most deadly setting? High Bounding, topdown attack. Basically your average scavenger will trip it, and the mine flies into the air and downblasts him.

And no the mines dont have speakers. That guy must have wired cheap midi ones to it. But if were to play music, I play this real classic song

Because every 10 years or so you get the grand idea to "sieze the means of production". (that's a direct quote from a sign, BTW)

There are serious talks about seizing your means of reproduction BTW. You just don't cause enough damage to warrant the investment though. Keep it up, though, maybe that will change.

Interesting, but a weapon that burns is a weapon that has the potential to leave dramatic and endearing scars if not applied with sufficient zeal.

A glancing blow, an underpowered shot, and the next thing you know you've got an eyepatch-wearing protagonist on your hands.

If you really want to drive the point home, there's no kill like overkill.

No bodies, no scars, no martyrs, no heroes.

I work 'peacekeeping' operations over Lesotho, been stationed in Port Elizabeth since the town was taken over by Lockheed-Martin. Crazy times before that, though. Lockheed didn't get us -35 guys wearing the new-gen ram+ coating until '45, so when we were forcing the hostile takeover on BAE in '42 we had to scramble hard to force their AA batteries quiet so the spooks could get in and "make the merger".

I know she's not much to behold anymore, the F-40 guys like to talk shit about us, but at least we're not spending half our missions in boxes on the ground somewhere. Shit's scarier than being in the air, at least up here it's on me to protect myself. There was a guerrilla hit on one of our bases that I heard about where some F-40 pilots had their throats slit in the middle of a mission. The planes flew home under an F-35's remote control, but the base had to be recycled and the planes had a new neural net installed for the next gen of poor saps.

God I love my job. Nothing quite like taking old school tech, giving it a new coat of paint and primer and stealth coating, and taking it to some fuckers who think more tech will solve their problems. It's like they've forgotten how King Trump was deposed back in '28. The businessman became the politician and the businesses had to clean shop. I'm getting on about middle aged, I was a Major in the old United Stated Air Force when it happened. One day I go to work and there's some guys in suits replaced the gate guards on base and tell me the Air Force has been privatized and we all work for Lockheed directly now. I just laughed and told em that that's what I signed up for way back in '20 (Yeah I know I'm fucking old. Thank the machine gods (and Lockheed) for all the augs I've gotten to keep me as healthy as and in way better shape than I was back then).

Oh, and don't fucking buy NORINCO. You know something fucking sucks when the cheap knockoffs of it are better than the original. One of our subsidiaries down...

...here in greater south africa makes some decent mid-quality stuff based on chinese tech. It's not like norinco don't know what they're making, they've got seriously cool tech, but they make more money throwing it together for as cheap as can be. Next time you see what looks to be a Norinco power suit, check and see if the manufacturer isn't Kroonstad instead. If it is, it's actually made with quality control. If you're lucky, the dealer won't know that and he'll sell it like it's the piece of shit norinco. It's kinda hard to check though, because it still has the norinco branding and everything. They do it like that because any action norinco would take would get it into the news that they make shitty stuff, so they keep mum about it on a whole. Just get any generic scabbing plug and tell it to look for the code AN44670KR00VIIN in the actuators. If it comes up with nothing then you've got real norinco and you should dump that shit in the nearest hostile parts bin.

I don't know exactly. I've been private air power for nearly three decades now. But what I can tell you is that the -35 was built to be future proof. And so far, for a design from the beginning of the century, they've been pretty much spot on. So far it's always been cheaper and better to put new stuff on a -35 than to update the 6th genners. They still haven't really been able to solve the UAV problem of having someone on the ground. It's too easy for those spec ops types that Sarif or TYM have to get in and mess with air operations when their being run from the ground. After the first hit mentioned above, we actually saw double shifts for about two months while the company tried to get the -40 problem figured out. I hear they're working on building a flying carrier or some crazy shit now, but that's not really my department.

>Norincos QC

No shit. There was a kid, a scav, but a scrappy little fuck. Wanted to make a name for himself being a Corp Merc. He goes down to the yard, and gets himself a norinco powersuit. Of course on paper it had all the bells and whistles, kid was fucking sold, wayover priced too. I told him he was being a stupid little shit when he told me about it at the local Merv watering hole, he was going back creds on card to the seller and clearly nothing was stopping him.

So an hour later he trumps on back in to the joint decked out in his "fancy new powersuit", masked up. I was pretty shitfaced so I basically ignored him. We all knew him, so when he started lazing people with his fcs's IR laser for shit and giggles it did not end up with him dead, but it did piss me off. I knew their threat matrix was wonky as fuck, so I pulled out an IR chemstick out of my bag and chucked it at him.

My intention was to have his suit throw him on his ass, detect the "threat" and move him. Well, norc qc struck again, they apparently didn't put the torso/neck safety limiter in (or it was shit), and while it did throw his ass to the ground, it also rotated his torso 360 degrees independently from the legs, and broke his neck because his head went straight to his back, sideways.

Still hear his screams to this day. Worse than any combat I have been in. The death rattle was the worse, with the spaisms amplified by the suit.

The real kicker? The fucking thing would not let him die. Kept pumping him full of stims. When we went to cut him out of the suit it electrified as a self defense measure. Every now and again the helmet would purge his blood vomit so he would not drown. He was begging for death by hour 3. Then the pain inhibitors ran out. But not the fucking stims. 14 hours later the suits electrical system died from keeping the caseing electrified.

Norinco.

Not even FUCKING once.

I'm first post guy, run security for them. Pay is pretty good, and benefits are fantastic. You get smoked on the job by anti-corps or runners, and your brain is still intact, they'll upload you to a 'roid chassis.

I mean, yeah, you're technically beta testing their hardware-wetware link, but it's all voluntary.

One of my guys ate a Turkish M11 pack while we were patrolling the South African Protectorate badlands. His suit's armor ate 5 or so, and the Zastava APS/combat hacking suite took care of a dozen more but after that, the left abdomibal casing and sensors were compromised and the last one burrowed into his undersuit and blew the entire lower half of his body clean off.

Phoenix put him in their prototype chassis and he was up and running missions with us in 1 week flat. Amazing stuff really, and their new chassis looks incredibly lifelike, without really suffering from uncanny valley.

I'll give you a referral if you'd like, our group is looking for a Junior Net Engineer.

Guys, I think I accidentally siamesed myself.
I was going to do a bodyswap and jacked into my new body to perform the transfer. I'm using a Lifepreserve series cyberbrain so the socket is nice and big, I though I could do it myself.
Well it went well at first, I used my new body to open my old ones head and lift out my cyberbrain, at this point I was jacked in to two bodies at once, but I fucked up. As I was lifting out my brain, the adaptive drivers I installed for my arm in the new body (it's one of those split in two kinds, couldn't get the hang of it without drivers) kicked in and started, well adapting.
Something went wrong and now my two bodies think they're just one. I'm connected between the two with a cable, like you do when brainswapping. But because the body thinks it's one it doesn't allow me to remove my brain, it actually took over and put it back in my old body to prevent an immobile mind scenario. And now it won't let me remove the cable or perform the transfer with just one body because it thinks It'll mean disconnecting my cyberbrain completely.
In short I fucked up.
What do?

It's pretty damn trippy to be controlling two bodies at the same time, but I'd prefer just the one.

Woo la la.. Thank my lucky stars I took a bit of ECE and CS while I got my Psych docx. The time you spend on books and tinkering with your digipsych sys I cut in half or more fully cooked by staying on top of my deep learning tools.

Literally the hospital is like my culture kaleidoscope at the stroke of a few keys. The man comes in now and then and is always leaving feeling content but comments on the eery quiet and nothing being out of place.
Saving on salary and company budget I can use is just smooth sailing baby.

Neurocom is barely releasing similar tech but slowly due to bureaucracy.

My programme is legally ok. I read the employee contract and patient release and a clause basically lets me do what I like but saving and avoiding blame come first, unless someone who reads the fucking manual first then I'm more willing to use special techniques in place of regular medicine.

Go to the library look up a Chinese business directory from about 4 years ago and I promise you can find well made moderately price quip. Corporate goon here. I have the unique job of scouting potential mining compounds along with "asset recovery" from crash landings or abandoned sites in the more remote lawless places. That can be anywhere from people to hardware. Most of the work I've done is in Africa and some parts of South and Central America. Occasionally I'll be subcontracted out to another company if they don't have guys like me on their payroll. Not exactly the glory of urban security but I get paid more. My kit is a bit more primitive than most other guys in the company, but when you work in the environments I do simplicity is best.

My primary is pic related with a 1x6 day/night optic in place of the Russian dinosaur atop it. It's quiet, doesn't weigh much, and since parts and ammo are relatively cheap I pocket more of my pay. Secondary is a neat little M320 launcher that was converted to shoot smart ammo like EMP and air burst rounds, I still carry HE and WP for when things get really nasty. Picked that up from a buddy of mine working in the R&D division. Other than that the rest of what I carry is nutrition packs, water, ammo, fire starters, a couple of knives, a tomahawk, sleeping kit, comms gear, a spare set of clothes, and whatever mission critical gear needed. I still even carry a paper map and compass just in case the fusion batteries in the GPS go out. Generally my partner and I are inserted and extracted by VTOL birds or if the area is a bit too hot we parachute in. We keep 100m dispersion at all times while keeping constant comms up. We only meet up if we are planning an approach or bedding down for the night. On scouting missions we generally map everything by scanner and clarify what the drones and satellites miss sometimes. We are told not to engage the locals unless they are a direct threat. "Asset recovery" is always more interesting.

Longest I've spent on the ground is about 3 weeks, anybody want some stories?

is there any cheap way to keep these fucker drones from the BRANAX corp away ? Our small team operation is scrapping in the DMZ between them and Steinkreuz Mining. But BRANAX is saber rattling with their new shit and they actually try to get lock ons in good conditions. This is cutting into our up time as we now rely on the spring dust storms as cover. but they are dying down with the summer season and provide less and less interference to passive radars. We only dropped in with a initial fly by night set up for a targeted recovery but to our surprise they didn't detect us so we kept going after the initial contract was done. ROI is great the zone is littered with shot up mining gear and old combat tech.

so kind of unsure if we should extract or bring in more expensive gear to squeeze in more months.

This is from my fourth outing, up until that point things were relatively docile. Only one or two run ins with the locals. This time the company is looking into opening an outpost in a no-go zone in central Africa. Insurgents roaming around and they want nothing to do with foreigners. Plan was to insert for about four days, scout around AI, send data back, then GTFO. That plan went to shit. Here goes

>get in pic related
>flying overhead of AO
>bird drops us off at night into jungle
>partner and I set up camp 300m from drop site
>wait till dawn to start moving
>first three days everything is going fine
>send back terrain and soil data for imaging
>partner and I found a defendable area for a mining team to come in
>palatable water source nearby, good terrain, landing spot could be cleared
>mark it on the map along with other possible spots
>making our way to extraction point
>only other people we've seen were some farmers in their fields
>they didn't even notice us
>400m from evac point
>fuck I can't wait to get back and take a shower
>just one more hour until the bird comes
>hear a loud screeching coming from overhead
>watch as cargo drone falls out of the sky just outside of our AO, about 4k away
>partner and I meet up
>we get a call from our company
>drone appeared to have a malfunction and was carrying some sensitive equipment
>we've been tasked with securing the crash site

Turns out the sensitive equipment was some new kind of new exosuit for miners that the company just finished developing and some really high power imaging equipment for surveying. The relief team mopped up the insurgents and about a month later the mine opened at the position we marked. Locals are happy the insurgents are gone, region is somewhat more stable now and money is flowing in.

>Shit man call it a day.
Most of our inserts are pretty mild. Maybe one or two contacnts but for the most part it's an extended camping trip. The story I just told was an extreme example.

>Where the opfor patched or just some bottom barrel?
They were decent, and the commander was good which is why they were rotating guys on the crashed drone. They were better than you're average armed villager. The Insurgents primarily preyed on the farmers in the area, and really not used to guys who could put up a fight. The only hostilities would be an occasional apathetic police force coming through. They seemed timid to rush, which worked out in our favor because if they had that brainwave we would be dead. Apparently we scared the shit out of them and they didn't know how many of us there were. Because it was just me and my partner we always make ourselves seem like a larger force.

>Why opfor even rotate a team if there wasn't much worth holding down (explains small group)?
According to some papers that were captured when the relief team moved in on camp they had some ties to foreign governments that were supporting them in the hopes of sending in their own companies to mine. The rebels were supposed to create an autonomous region but failed to do that. The company I work for was in negotiations with the local government about setting up shop. The insurgents probably figured they could have traded whatever they found in the drone for more arms and expanded their force. The equipment we found was worth quite a bit. The relief team also found that their stockpile of arms was dwindling which is why the fire may not have been so intense.

Perhaps you've yet to realize that Mars is simply the largest corporate land claim in existence and that you're just waiting for "voluntary conscription" to mine it.

Remember marsanon, you don't have the weaponry to say no.
And if you had some sold to you, you'd simply be out a lot of people and end up mining for the company that sold you the arms.

Rebellion was a big thing at the time, and one of the tenets of cyberpunk was "high tech, low life" so most of those stories were about the little guy or a truthseeker against 'the man'.

When you don't have something like that you end up with something like GitS SAC where everything seems the same as ever just with more tech involved.

because the genesis of cyberpunk as a genre was during the 80's, when both the personal computer revolution was reaching its stride, and mega corporate takeovers/mergers became more and more common. consider how corporations had gutted american manufacturing through outsourcing, and how there had been more and more scandals leading up to the 80's through various corruption and environmental issues. this undoubtedly had an effect on authors like gibson and sterling. its in the very name of the genre, "cyberpunk". what kind of punk would root for the megacorp?

>>
>>33820349
That's so ridiculous. Cyberpunk has never been about revolution, but about saving your ass and cashing in at the same time. The main protagonists of cyberpunk stories are antiheroes and usually loners who really don't care about the state of the world. When they fight The Man, then it's for cash or for revenge, but never to make the world a better place - this would be pointless anyway as getting rid of corporation A would simply make corporation B and C stronger. What makes people think those cyberpunk main characters are rebels is that they are anticonformists and the only law they abide to is their own code of moral.

Let's imagine we're in a cyberpunk dystopian future. Firearms and ammunition have become illegal to civilians (dystopia). Online purchases are monitored by A.I.s looking for deviants and potential terrorists. Purchasing magazines, trigger assemblies, barrels has become impossible without having E-SWAT teams raiding your conapt. Military and police (they are mostly the same) smartguns are digitally locked to prevent theft (each weapon is assigned a code, the same code is uploaded into the trooper's weapon interface, when grabbing the weapon interface and weapon synchronize automatically and the weapon can be used). Tampering with the security mechanism activates a small EMP device that fries the weapon's electronics and renders it unusable. Ammunition are all caseless electronic primed.

How do people get guns? Receivers and other parts can be machined using CNC mills, 3d printers and blueprints found online. But what about barrels and what about ammo? Barrels require heavy duty machinery to be made. Could underground workshops manufacture them? What about ammo? Reloading is easy as long as you have cases and bullets - which in our example you probably wouldn't have anymore. Propellant can be made. But how would you make cases and effective bullets (lead bullets won't even scratch cyberpunk body armor)?
>>
Would it be feasible to have smoothbore guns that fire APDS rounds and would it be effective? As APDS rounds don't require rifled barrels, a simple polished highly resistant tube could be used. Flechettes could be manufactured from hardened steel or tungsten carbide. The discarding sabots could either be made from polymer or aluminum foam. Is that somewhat realistic?

Ex-Goon/Solo. I like to consider myself a Condottieri.

Basically, me and a company of 100 work for the highest bidder in various conflict zones. Right now we're in the South African Protectorates. 'Technically' we're a state-employed PMC group, in service to the armed forces, but essentially that's just bureaucratic fog to cover up the fact that the SA government has hired a gang of heavily armed, armored, and augged goons.
Usually, any bureaucratic government interference is at best a infuriating nuisance. This time though, it's actually been a benefit. It's allowed us access to decent tech and med support for a change. Don't get me wrong, it's still a bit...choppy. But in comparison to what we can usually muster, it's luxurious. That's probably my biggest complaint running with a crew like this, the support. Usually it's extremely sketchy types, strange characters who look more like butchers than doctors.

Smoothbore barrels are easy to make, making rifling can be more challenging but really can be a simple as tapping out a pipe which would be easy enough to rig up in a machine shop

Also, keep in mind stolen guns could be rewired, or rebuilt by those with the know how. Ammunition could fall off a truck or be taken from authority units during ambushes with industrial machinery.
Depending on the type of armor they're wearing, crushing or molotovs could also still be used to overwhelm cyberpolice in small numbers..

>Microwaves cook people from the INSIDE OUT
You're a fucking retard.

Microwaves heat just like any kind of radiation source - from the surface inwards. They just have a lot more penetration than, say, infrared radiation, so they can heat up things deeper inside the object. Water tends to absorb this energy the most, and humans have plenty of that in their skin and muscles.

black powder is extremely easy to make from almost entirely unregulated chemicals
saltpeter, sulphur, and charcoal

nitrocellulose can be made with more in depth chemical products that are still mostly unregulated

primers can be made using strike anywhere matches, or using potassium percolate (currently unregulated)
