A guy I know wants to sell me his reproduction M1 carbine for $200. He let me shoot it a few times on the range and I love it. Should I go ahead and get it or am I about to be scammed?

Which repro? AO? Inland Mfg? James River?
You shot it already, didn't you? And it didn't fall apart into a million pieces? Do it.
Of course it's worth it for 200 fuck

Is it a .22LR one?
Still a good deal if it is, but not unbelievable. How well do you know the guy? Is he someone who'd sell you something for %50-%75 of what he could get selling online?

He's just an acquaintance. I see him at the shooting club range I go to all the time, but we've never had dinner with each other or anything. I don't even know where he lives - he just brought it out to the range with him one weekend and offered to sell it to me.

The Inland repros tend to have reliability issues and some nasty fit & finish, but I'd say they're worth $200. Do it!
Pic is my original 1944 Inland.

Now I think I know why he's letting it go for so cheap. I'm no gunsmith - is there any way I can make it fire more reliably?

Supposedly they get better after a "break in" period of a few hundred rounds. Also make sure you use decent magazines. Lots can be fixed by tweaking them a bit.
