There is no standardization except with respect to the mounts that attach to the barrel standard barrel nut. For example, you can't install a KAC rail if you have a Geissele barrel nut. In 2017 there's really no reason not to do one of two things:

Since buying this scope and putting it on the SCAR 17S, I've become a huge fan of that magnification range. I ended up buying a Vortex PST to put on my Colt 901 because the range is just ideal for general purpose paper shooting. Nightforce did change the illumination, though. The newer type of illumination is called ''Digilum'' and allows for red or green illumination on an acceptable range of brightness settings.

There is some incredibly minor chromatic aberration with it. Thats the only downside. Glass is top end, reticle on high is like an Aimpoint M4 on a click or two from brighest, its also on a dimmer knob, no clicks, just a smooth 'analog' adjustment up to whatever brightnes you want. Capped adjustments, but on a 1-X scope im not looking to dial in dope.

Im very pleased. Thinking of getting a k64i for the MWS.
