Thinking about buying a vz-58 and or vz2008 for my first semi-automatic rifle.
Thoughts?
Also, thoughts on them in general.

They're fine rifles, mags are more expensive than steel ak mags and harder to find. Don't cheap out on the vz2008 and buy Czechpoint usa.
>>
>>33798920
I've been looking at a vz2008 with 6 mags a bunch of parts and a bayonet for fairly cheap, under $800 cheap. Also any reason not to buy the vz2008, I've read some good reviews of it and some bad ones.
>>
>>33798934
Because no bad reviews are better than some.
Also I don't trust Century to build anything that isn't an AK parts kit.
>>
>>33798909
The vz58 is my favorite rifle I own, and I have 5 aks in 5 calibers etc.
A friend of mine has a vz2008. I'd also pick that over any standard sub 1k-ish ak.
They're great rifles either way, but the century is rougher in fit and finish. I'd suggest a fixed stock for comfort and overall shooting, but the folder stock is pretty decent feeling too IMO.
>>
>>33798909
They're alright.

If you buy one with a slant-cut muzzlebrake, take it off and either replace it with an appropriate birdcage flash hider or leave it bare, it'll improve your groupings.

if you're getting one in 5.56, just get the mag adapter.

That's what vz2008s cost now? I remember 3 years ago some company had them for $400 they didn't last long
>>
>>33799779

new production CSA vz's are a grand and up.
>>
>>33798909

>>
>>33799944

>>

Yes, parts kits are drying up so new vz2008s are a mixed of surplus and us made parts. Green Mountain makes the barrels I believe and I believe another company creates the recievers. Furniture is now black tacticool rails with foregrip with a standerd folding stock
>>
>>33799944
Yes, there's a cutout for stripperclips and a bolt hold open so you can strip a clip into a Vz58 mag.

I suppose if you lived in the People's Republic Of Kalifornia, you could have a Vz58 rifle with a fixed 10rd mag and then reload it with stripperclips, like a much nicer SKS.

stock wood vz furniture is fucking disgusting and only contrarians think otherwise.
>>
>>33800623
What makes it nicer than the SKS?
>>
>>33800687
That doesn't mean that tacticool rails are any better

gee
>>
>>33800689
Pistolgrip, somewhat nicer accuracy, and the fact that it's designed for detachable magazines, so if laws change or the state just goes tits up, it's easy to have a gun with detachable mags.

>>33800688
"Wrong."
>>
>>33799730
This, this is exactly what happened to my friend's gun. We pulled that thing off and it helped a ton.

I got my cai vz2008 for 399 but paying more money to buy all the mako group hand guard and grip and stock

I remember when AIM surplus offered them as a package deal with three mags in a pouch and a bayonet for $499.
