I'd go for an FAL so I can pretend I'm slottin floppies in the bush, but also because theyre around the same price as an AR-10. A DSA Voyager with stock iron sights is around $1200, and so is a good AR-10 with optics, unless you build it yourself. The FAL feels nicer to me personally, is easier to operate, and is about as lightweight as an AR-10. Then again I just really dislike the AR's charging handle.

Personally, I'd reccomend you carry a shotgun as well or some type of 5.56 bullpup or shorter PCC as a backup rifle in case rioters break into your building and your FAL would give you trouble indoors (long barrel and overpenetration)

Yes and no, the receiver is a shit design, but the FAL has a tilting bolt, and tilting bolts will simply just have mediocre consistency in lockup compared to rotating bolt.

You're full of shit. Israel dropped the FAL after the Yom Kippur war because it performed like shit, they adopted AR pattern rifles and have been using them for close to four decades since then. The Tavor is nowhere near close to actually replacing them and won't be for the foreseeable future.
My L1A1 doesn't even need desert sand to FTF every now and then, and before you start with the damage control, no, it's not an American franken build but a legit Enfield built SLR, I'm using good quality German 7.62x51 in it and I went through the proper gas setup process as per its service manual.
