I am writing to express my distaste for and opposition to SB1657, which would impose additional licensing requirements on Illinois businesses that deal in firearms. If signed into law, the regulations this bill imposes would be unnecessary and burdensome. They are unnecessary considering the considerable existing Federal regulations and licensing requirements for all businesses (and individuals) dealing in firearms. Any additional licensing requirements will burden Illinois businesses and stifle 2nd Amendment rights. The purpose of this bill is not to increase public safety, but to stifle already restricted 2nd Amendment rights in Illinois.

Here's my letter.

I can't understate my opposition to the proposed gun control bills (SB1657).

It is an attack on the small gun stores lining every corner in southern Illinois, and one that is an entirely unwarranted "feel-good" measure that would not even be considered by a serious politician.

I voted for Bruce Rauner for fiscal policy that made sense, and not to infringe on the firearm freedom of millions of Illinoisans. I would be deeply ashamed if Governor Rauner were to destroy small businesses in the name of Democrat propaganda and lies about firearms.

I ask that the Illinois office of the governor veto SB1657.
Because if/when the rest of your constituents realize that you have betrayed them, they will not be happy.

Firearm freedom is not a trivial matter to throw under the bus every time you need a scapegoat. God bless.
