So I have acquired a good amount of 12 GAUGE BRASS SHOTGUN SHELLS REM/UMC BEST.
See attached picture for headstamp. I was wondering if anyone on K actually reloads brass shotgun shells.I reload but definitely not for shotgun, I don't even have equipment for it. I know these are potentially pre World War II. I was thinking about dumping them on GunBroker but have no idea how much to ask for them. If any of you guys have any experience with these would love to know about it.
Also General brass shotgun shells / cowboy action.

Anon, I do load my own 12 ga. And those brass are definitely interesting. Sure you could make something outta them but I can't say how much.
But as a loader I can see that the primers doesn't seem like the modern primers for shotshells. Check if they are boxer primer first, then you should punch one out and take measurements of the primer pocket. Gotta be sure of what primers you would need first.
Loading 12 ga is easy but a little tedious if you don't have really specific equipment, because you have to weight both powder and shot. Positive side tho, most of the loads can be charges with pistol powders. If you have something for .38 SPL or .357 Mag you're set.

>That midwest forehead
I hope your plowing at least one of them.

Boxer or Berdan?

They are definitely not boxer primed. I don't think Americans ever really made much boxer primed. see pic.

I plowed the one on the left she's an absolute sweetheart. Her ears stick out like a Victorin era ship sales though.
>>33783713
also they are from CT

Anon, that is a sweet find. This is pretty much all you need. Ice pick pops the old primers. Wood dowel to push new primers in. Powder measure to pour in BP (use BP only with a volume measure!). Dowel sets over powder wad and cushion wad. Use measure for shot (it has two scales, Dram equiv for powder and OZ for shot). Place overshot wad and seal with a light bead of white glue or water glass if your a true cowboy autist like me. I do 12 and 20 gauge with these tools.

BTW, all my brass is Berdan primed.
>>33783935
Umm. Those *are* Boxer primed. That's good. More choices for you plus easier to remove.
>>33784156
Here are some of my 20 ga. I even print up old timey labels for the boxes. Print labels for cap tins for my BP pistols too but that's for another thread.

I though boxer Prime to show two holes even after being fired?
>>33784262
Berdan
>>33784249
that's pretty cool I would love to see the blast of smoke after you shoot that
>>33784249
Wow I love your autism. Did you ever try smokeless powder?
>>33784276
It's great. Plus SxS shotties are easy to clean after shooting BP. You can load blanks too. Just fill space between over powder wad with tissue paper. Almost same boom as regular shell with BP.

I'm excessive compulsive not batshit crazy.
>>33784328
>>33784328
Shotgun powders are pretty low pressure, if you use brass shells you'd have even less to worry about.
>>33784347
My 20 ga hammer gun is new so I would probably try that but my 12 ga is an old damascus barrel mule ear and I would never try smokeless in her.
>>33783355
Those look like maybe large pistol primers. You should be all set.

Get the tools pictured above. All available on ebay. You can make the dowel tool easy enough. Print this:

And Bob's your uncle.

Your anti Asian prejudice is showing. Boxer sound Chinese and foreign so they are the "other" primers. Shame on you. You are not allowed any where near Berkley, CA.
>>33783355
How many did you score?
>>33784664
I would buy them from you.
>>33784664
>>33784675
I have 118 of them. I posted them on GunBroker for $3 each. But if you really want to buy them I will reduce the price for you because K is good people.
>>33785409
What the fuck, how did you come across all of these?
>>33785409
I would love to have 20 of them. How do we do this?
>>33785897
Contact each other with a throwaway email
>>33784347
Shotgun LOADS you mean. They use the powders also for .32 ACP up to 44Mag and beyond and the pressure are another world In those calibers
>>33785968
I meant powders too, bulky flake powders burn at a different rate than hot pistol powders.
Though with Trail Boss being found pretty much everywhere you really don't have an excuse to not use that if only to prevent accidentally double charging.

I still haven't gotten a 20ga Overland to match my 12ga. I'm useless.
