>>
How does everyone keep their guns 922r compliant? I'm a bit new to this, so I'm wondering what parts are U.S. made on my slr-104. I have the list of the foreign made parts, but not the U.S. ones. Process of elimination, I know, but I'm worried I am missing a part (or not sure which parts may count as a single one).

Hopefully my shit shows up by the end of the week. I literally never check the tracking info on international shipments because I like the surprise and constantly checking where it is makes time stop. How long does shit usually take to get though US customs, a few days?

Ive got $650 or so into it, paid around $400 for it. It was an Israeli police trade in at Cabelas, and was carried a lot but shot little. Outside finish was really really rough and rusted super easily if I didn't oil it every other day but inside it was all nice parts wise. I had it cerakoted and replaced all the springs, normally I don't refinish surplus but this one I specifically bought to use and abuse and I wanted the best finish I could get on it so I didn't have to worry anymore about rust

>>33773262
Nothing special just another Bulgarian 6x5. I try to buy every one I can find for less than $50 or so and then I turn around and sell them on Ebay for $60-$80 or even more depending on how badly the buyer wants it :^) Only things I really do this with are these bayonets on EBay and true blacks I get from overseas on armslist and FB (but em cheap and sell them for $30ish a piece locally, haven't bought any true blacks in a few months tho)

How would it be? Think with your head for a minute. Go look at any of your guns and see how many parts actually say where they were made. Chances are it's between one and zero.

So how can they prove anything? Hell, why would they even ever check? It's actually not common to have the ATF pouring over your firearms, if they are it's not because of 922r but because you dun goofed big time.

Hey guys, I have one of these and I'm wondering what's a good way to use it without fucking up the finish
https://www.apexgunparts.com/polish-tantal-wz-88-ak74-bipod-military-issue.html
I want to use it to zero my rifles because I don't have any 5 or 10 round magazines (only 30 rounders) and I don't want to carry a around a 10 lb beanie bag rest (if I could find a decent one that's tall enough) or a 15lb+ metal rest.
>inb4 hurr just get 10 round mags to zero
10 round AK-74 mags aren't common enough and the only options for 10 round 7.62x39 mags that aren't Chinese are shitty Korean mags and I think magpul.

Can someone tell me why neither of my 2 yugo bayonets will fit on my slr107?
Both of them fit my WASR fine.
>>
>>33778784
How do they "not fit"?
Will they not lock on to the lug?
Will they not fit on the lug at all?
Would they fit if you took on your muzzle device?
>Not on the accessory lug though, on the actual bayo lug

Pics would help.
>>
>>33778860
Muzzle brake isnt the problem.
They wont fit on the lug at all.
Are both lugs the same?
I would assume the rear one is for use with a slant brake and the forward one is for use with the bigger 74 style brakes.
I haven't tried it without the brake yet. I'll have to try that later when I get home.
>>
>>33778880
One is a bayonet lug the other is an accessory lug for grenades.
>>
>>33778886
So can I not mount a bayonet with that type of muzzle brake on?
>>
>>33778880
I meant to try it on the front lug without the brake on, to see if it was related to length.
If you've got calipers, check the size of the Arsenal's lug vs the WASRs and the width of the lock mech slot on the bayonet.
>>
>>33778892
I don't think the bayonet ring would fit around the 24mm FSB collar (the threaded part)

You can but I don't have a Yugo bayonet right now to test. It could be minor fitment differences because I have a Bakelite bayonet that just barely fits on my SLR.
>>33778899
This is a good idea and yes the front lug is for bayonets.
>>
>>33778904
The part the ring goes around is actually like 17mm.
>>

The lug stops the bayo before the brake comes in comes in contact with the bayo ring.
>>33778904
Oh yeah, duh.
>>33778905
I'm guessing it's just a tolerance issue.
Bayos must be too tight for slr yet the wasr lug is small enough for it.
>>
>>33778951
It could be, mine is super tight and I sometimes need to hammer it off with a magazine. Try a Bulgarian bayonet, literally a millimeter or less could be fucking with it.
>>
>>33778914
>The part the ring goes around is actually like 17mm.
Makes sense, I was just referencing the size of the brake/thread pitch, as I don't have an Arsenal.
>>
>>33778971
Right on. I think the problem is just minor fitment, OP could probably fix it with a file but I would just get a new bayo

I've been wanting to expand my bayo collection.

I would attempt to get at least one from every major country that produced them. Definitely try to find Chinese or E German. I would check ebay(verify you're dealing with a trusted seller) and apex gun parts. Apex always has tons of shit and they are my go to for milsurp accessories.

Well, 54r is drying up and 39 can refer to 7.62x39 or 5.45x39.

If you're going to get a vepr in either caliber, I'd go with a Vepr FM.

I mostly use soft point ppu 54r anyways with my nuggets due to autismo range policies. I have a lot of ammo for them that I can share.

And I dont which x39 I'd want, I only just started to look into vepr's and ak's in general. I used to think I'd want to get a DDI or Arsenal to make an east german Mpi clone but im not really dead set on that idea, im not even sure I could do that with an FM (I wasnt looking at FM's originally though).

I'm a /brg/ anon, this is new territory for me.
>>
>>33779373
It's all good.

If you want an MPI clone, you won't want to start with a Vepr. You'd be better off having an AKM kit built or starting with a Maadi and putting East German furniture on it. That way you have a really nice AKM and you can swap furniture back to the original whenever you feel like it.

The Veprs are great shooters, but unless you're going to go for an RPK clone in the future, they really won't be a clone of anything. Most people are ok with that, some of us are too autistic to go that route.

If you want a 54r rifle, and you don't really mind the ammo situation, an 18" Vepr is a pretty solid choice too. If you shop around and get lucky, you might even be able to find a Vepr IV in 54r with a factory railed dust cover and folder. Those things are sweet and I wish I would have picked one up from legion when they had them at $1300.
C'est la vie.
>>
>>33779286
You're right about sounding like a massive faggot. Leave it be
>>
>>33779446
If I got a vepr I'd either tacticool it out or get something from ironwood to replace the factory furniture and go psuedo-svd. All the long guns I own are cold-war era knock offs or kit builds, so either I'll make whatever I decide to get into yet another clone or finally make it past 1989 and buy into the railz meme.

You can get a 308 version of that for now minus a railed dust cover for 1200 at kvar. It still has a side rail of course. Folder stock and no welds etc or 922r to worry about. I just got one and can confirm it's a great shooter.
For me, the single stack magwell forcing you into either low capacity or really long mags, will always turn me off from 54r veprs. And I've already got a psl, so I guess that doesn't help either. I'm kindof a snob when it comes to 54r mags because it just boggles my mind that they would make it single stack only.
>>33779373

As far as ammo costs, 54r seems like it's always more expensive regardless of whether you're comparing magnetic or non magnetic to follow range rules.

I like with what you did to make the middle vepr resemble a RPK. Considering the price of actual RPKs, I am tempted to get and convert a vepr to resemble the more traditional ones.
>>
>>33779724
Yeah, I can't see buying a 54r Vepr when .308s exist. Why would you want an absolutely ancient rimmed cartridge autoloader aside from just a weak sentiment about 54r. Instead you can get one in a caliber half its age that you can buy in any gun store in America.

I didn't do anything other than buy it mostly as-is. It's a vepr-1v rpk. It's just a 556 semi auto rpk-201 clone built in russia. They imported them briefly before the russia sanctions.
>>33779888

pretty easy to track down anything from official vepr mags to aftermarket ones up to 20 or 25rds. I've just got 2 10rds and a 5, and probably won't be buying any more.
>plus I know 20rd 54r mags exist

There's maybe one other guy on /k/ who has one, but I haven't seen him in a long time.
I really want to know how many were imported, couldn't have been very many.
The 308 vepr I've got only had 300 imported, so I figured I better get it even if it's sortof bad timing around tax season. When it comes to russian imports, you snooze, you loose for many years if not forever. Especially if it's a small batch thing.

Honesty I don't really shoot most of my rifles other than my AKs and vz and .22lr any more. The XM clone is cool and fun to shoot but that's an area of collecting (US Vietnam stuff) that although I think is really cool I don't really care for collecting stuff from it and would rather collect other stuff instead. My StG is really cool and fun to shoot but I just don't shoot it much anymore, and the history behind it isn't as cool as other FALs (wish I would have bought an R1 from the beginning as those are my favorites). AKs are just one of the few types of guns that both are very fun to shot for me but also extremely historically interesing, more so than a lot of other guns

Meanwhile, in Maadi world:

>brake won't thread on anymore
>determine that the sleeve probably swelled some while being tapped onto the muzzle
>ask a local gun board if anyone has a threading die so I can chase the threads
>"YOU'VE RUINED YOUR GUN BECAUSE YOU ARE CLEARLY INCOMPETENT, THINK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BARREL WHEN YOU PRESSED IT ON, START SAVING TO TO REPLACE THE BARREL OR THE ENTIRE GUN FOR YOUR COSTLY MISTAKE"

One of these days, I'm sure I'll find a place where I can ask "hey I need to do (thing) with my Maadi, can I get some help?" and not get met with a wall of condescension. Not today, though.

Chimps, expanding on what I was saying above about wanting an 88 AKS74 build, would it be worth it to buy one of those rguns 1988 AK74 kits and building it into an AKS74 or would that not be good? Would I be better off specifically buying an AKS74 kit or just building the rguns kit into a proper AK74? I don't know the specific detail differences between AK74s and AKS74s, so I'm not sure if it's more than just putting a 4.5mm trunnion and Izhmash triangle on it. Besides the rear trunnion and stocks and stock locking latch on the receiver, are there any different parts between an AK74 and AKS74 from the same year?

Basically I want to know if I'd be in the clear building an rguns 88 AK74 kit into an AKS74 or if it'd be best to just keep it am AK74. If I did get an rguns kit I wouldn't want to do it an injustice by building it into something it isn't if there will be any discrepancies between the two rifles (I hope this is making sense, it's hard to word it)
>>
>>33782508
You're better off with an Slr 104 and taking the side rail off.
>>
>>33782508
No, it's perfectly fine, they are not distinguishable other than the folding stock. Nothing wrong or incorrect about it. The only actually hard part is finding a real Izhmash 4.5mm trunnion, but even I gave up on that in favor of a virgin 4.5mm Bulgarian trunnion I already had.

I am going to build my 1987 kit as a folder.
>>
>>33782508
What you're describing is pretty much exactly the route I'm going with my 83 AKS-74 build. Kit from Rguns, 74U LLC receiver, sold the stock and rear trunnion from the fixed gun and bought an Izzy 4.5mm stock, front latch hardware, and a Bulgarian trunnion because I couldn't find a Russian one and almost nobody can tell the difference anyway.

>>33782301
Yeah, I know. I just want a damn slant brake on this gun and it seems like I'm constantly being berated for not having 20 years of machining experience and a garage workshop like all the old men have where they can "easily" do whatever I'm looking for help with getting done out of my tiny 650 sq ft apartment.

No, SLR104s are incorrect for a late 80s Soviet rifle clone

Plus I want a proper Russian kit build clone, not another cross dressing Bulgarian rifle. I've already played the whole "dress your SLR up as a late 80s rifle" game and I want a proper clone

>>33782575
Ok cool thanks, I just wasn't sure and didn't want a weird bastard rifle of weird mixed parts if I went through with it

>The only actually hard part is finding a real Izhmash 4.5mm trunnion, but even I gave up on that in favor of a virgin 4.5mm Bulgarian trunnion I already had.
Awesome, my next question was gonna be how hard an Izhmash 4.5mm trunnion would be to find and if I should just settle for a Bulgarian trunnion
>>
>>33782676
If you're patient, you might be able to find a Tula, but good luck finding an Izzy.

I just gave up and went with a Bulgarian since the only differences I'm aware of are a couple of small proof marks. Supposedly a fair few Bulgarian surplus trunnions came from Tula anyway, so good enough.
>>
>>33782676
It used to be borderline impossible but now with all the russians who will cut up deacts to mail you parts, it's much more possible. The trouble would be finding (by proxy) an AKS74 deact that is an actual AKS-74 deact and not one of the recently made deacts that izhmash is just throwing together with spare parts basically. There are a number of pedigree 74 deacts in Russia but finding one via your Russian deact proxy and getting it sawed would be a pain.

Unfortunately the same goes for the stocks, the izhmash 4.5mm stocks are all the correct "type" but very rarely will you see one that is actually from the 80's and not new production. I have an izhmash folder but it's one of the new production ones.

Both of those are almost indistinguishable from the real thing though.

>>33782635
Ah ok, I didn't realize your rifle was starting from an AK74 kit. I just want sure if slapping a folding stock on it made it a true AKS74 or if there were other differences

While I do think an early 80s clone would be cool, I just have a massive soft spot for late 80s matte plum furniture (shiny plum isn't as nice looking IMO, I know I'm in the minirity here). Maybe someday I'll go for an earlier AKS74 build too, if I even go through with this one

>>33782723
I figure something as small as the rear trumnion being "incorrect" in that it isn't Izhmash would be alright, especially considering how difficult it seems to be to cop an Izhmash one. I figure a Russian kit with a US receiver and Bulgarian barrel can get away with a Bulgarian rear trunnion as well, it's not like it's gonna be a huge discrepancy or something

>>33782742
Like you and 74ULLC Endless Wait anon said though the trunnion is close enough, and if I did go though with this and managed to find an Izhmash 4.5mm trunnion that wasn't a legitimate 80s part I feel it'd still be close enough (if a Bulgarian is close enough yet still technically incorrect, then a newer production Izhmash would be in the same boat only slightly more "correct" IMO)

For the stock I could always just settle for a newer Izhmash one and keep my eyes peeled for an original and swap it out so I'm not concerned about how difficult the correct 80s stock would be to find if a new one is still like you say the correct type. If I ever did happen to find one all if have to do is pop the old one off which is no big deal

I've thought about doing this for over a year now but I think I'm actually getting close to finally just doing it. I've watched the rguns 88 kits go up $70 and I want one before they're gone and I'm stuck paying $1000+ for one on the Files in a few years
>>
>>33782837
It's $620 for a pristine unissued Russian AK-74 kit. That's pretty damn good if you ask me.

My 87 came in the same batch. Rguns will sometimes put their items that don't warrant their own website link onto their GB page. I got it there for around $750 iirc. I've thought about getting an 88 to go with it and have one built as a folder and one fixed. But I also try to keep my shit in check.

What receiver are you using for your rguns AKM kit you just sent off?

If I go through with it I want it to be as accurate as possible and want to go the 74ULLC route but I'm impatient mad I'm in WA and don't want any gay antigun stuff to pass while I wait three years for a receiver. I also don't want to let the kit stagnate, I want to go through with getting it properly built should I get the kit. Not finishing things I start is something I'm really bad at

GB is a no go for me as they refuse to let me make an account that isn't flagged after sending them all of my info and their $1 multiple times with multiple emails and accounts, so there goes a big chunk of the gun market for me and a lot of chances to buy some cool stuff

About 6 months ago I bought a package deal on TAKF: A virgin Romanian barrel, a hand select 1968 izzy kit, and a 74uLLC receiver that had a serial number matching said kit.

That kit is the one I currently have for sale. The barrel and the receiver went to my 1969 kit that I sent off to JBI.

Around the same time I also came very close to snagging a 1988 AKS-74 receiver from 74uLLC that got posted for sale, but was too slow. It was listed for just like $250. I have virgin Bulgarian barrels waiting for my 74 kits. I would have been ecstatic to get that receiver. I was happy about getting the receiver I got, but that 68 kit is just baggage. And given how much I paid for the package deal, vs how much I'm trying to sell the kit out of it for, the barrel and receiver were pretty expensive.

>>33783441
I'm hoping if I do buy the kit I can find a proper 74ULLC receiver from someone because it's gonna be a hard wait if I order one directly.
