I'm the /k/unt that posted this. Did it for a giggle. Unironically though, I typically call 'suppressors' silencers. They're both correct terms as far as I'm concerned, and I think it's idiotic to suggest that calling a silencer a silencer is wrong because it doesn't "completely silence" the firearm. That's like saying an assault rifle is only an assault rifle if you're assaulting with it. If you're in a defensive position or just shooting at a shooting range, then it's not an assault rifle. Similarly, 'light' machine guns? I see nothing 'light' about a 15-25lb MG. Then there's 'general purpose' machine guns. That is bullshit. If it can be used so generally for such a multitude of purposes, then why is it that I can't use one as a bra for when I go to crossdressing night every Thursday at the local bar?
