When you stop firing and think the gun is empty, you don't wave it back. You keep it pointed in the direction of the target, you remove the magazine and confirm it's empty, then you pull the bolt back and confirm the chamber is empty. Then you dry fire and put the safety on.

I don't know OP, if you knew any of the 4 big rules of firearm safety, this is really unsafe handling. Even I, a no-guns ausfag, know this is terribly unsafe handling.

Plenty of triggering things, but the shooting into the air part is especially triggering for me because my Aunt had copped a stray round in the shoulder in her home miles away from some person who had negligently discharged into the air.

As for how we could educate people like >>33746176, I'm not sure. Mandatory safety training can weed out this kind of thinking if you were to apply for a license for example. If you're no-guns like me, informational materials such as videos, articles, etc. are out there. Being open to learning about firearms and their operation is a place to start.
