Nobody hates this gun, retard.
>Why does /k/ hate this gun so much?
From whom? Its like the SG 510, nobody gives a shit enough to hate it because it has nearly zero market presence in the states.
Shit thread all round
>>33736599
Hate it? I think half of /k/ would give up one of their nuts to be able to own one.

Or is this just HK-tier marketing goof?

Underage noguns b&. You put the clip in the mag to load it faster faggot.
>>33736599
Because it's heavy, outdated and non-freefloat. Swiss and Belgian guns are memes. Only Germans know how to make good guns, namely HK.

The basic action aside from the location of the spring is an AK for the most part. Its basically AK ver1.5. That said i have one of the US made 551 and i love it aside from it being a bit heavy.

Way to be late to the assault rifle game Switzerland.
The weight of the 55X guns is way overblown. The 550 itself weighs way too much, but the 551 LB is half a kilo lighter while being only marginally shorter. The reason why? Gadgets and doodads, mostly the lack of an integral bipod.
As for the lack of a freefloat mechanism, is that really an issue when the gun is already so fucking accurate even from a front-mounted bipod?
They're fantastically accurate, robust and reliable guns. Not the lightest, but better than a 416. Kinda like fantastically made AKs without all the mud ingress points.
Ergonomically they're great too, they actually have a bolt-catch system that's nice and quick whether you're left and right-handed.
The rock'n'lock mags aren't popular with Americans, but frankly if you watch combat footage all those fancy 3-gun speed reloads aren't really done in practice.

>>33736910
>>33736758
>Does this gun use both clips and mags?
No, but the gun usually comes with an adapter to fit over the mag & feed the mag from a clip.
There are two types of clips though: NATO & swiss. So be careful to get the right one.
/k/ hates what it cant have
Stay mad kids.
>>33737955
Don't feed the trolls, sigbro.
>>33737691
there's more than that. the G36 has its own plastic shitty clips that don't work with my ar mags. the famas and AUG prob have their own too but that's a guess on my part.
>>33737955
>le mericans can't have this gun meme
nigger we got surplus SIG 551s from Lousiana wildlife when they shitcanned them for the vastly superior AR15. we also got the old school 550, PE90, 550 zniper, 551 back when the 80s. we don't want swissnigger shit and it has nothing to do with cost. see the success of the AUG in comparison back in the 80s that was about the same money wise. we also have 553s being imported right now for 2800.
>>33737955
I like this design a lot more than >>33737978, that one just seems too thicc with the handguard.
Nice gun otherwise
>>33738021
They're the exact same, you tit. The black special just has a longer handguard and an aftermarket picatinny rail on top.
>>33738064
I'm aware they're the same, that's why I said design. Maybe I should just clarify "handguard length" next time.
>>33738021
Well, I find the 550 too front heavy & long, so I went with the 551 SB. It's not like the paper is going to feel the loss of velocity. I mostly shoot short & medium range.
The 550 is fenomenal prone, but just a gigantic pain in the ass if you try to shoot it standing for more than a mag or two.
>>33738076
If I had 3k€ to spend on a sig I'd probably get the 551 LB, I feel like it's the perfect balance between the two. Also being able to mount a bayonet is nice.
>>33738076
I can see that. I'm not saying the SG551 is a bad gun, it's just the handguard looks kinda large forr the size of the gun. Maybe I'm just used to the aesthetics of the AR and M(X) series of rifles and it's tainted my perception.
550 looks a like like a battle rifle, 551 just looks a little bulgy on the front, not that I know how it impacts performance
>>33736599
>inb4 price
But thats the main reason. Why would I pay much more for no advantage over an AR15.
AK is basically the same and cheaper
Steyr AUG is funnier and still costs less
>>33736599
because you touch yourself at night
>>33736599
Says who? Most of /k/ loves it.
>>33738091
>If I had 3k€ to spend
To be fair, if the Sig 551 SB cost 3k when I bought mine, I would not have bought it.
I paid €2100 for mine, incl the top picrail.
>>33738104
>550 looks a like like a battle rifle, 551 just looks a little bulgy on the front, not that I know how it impacts performance
Doesn't. Structurally, the 550/551/553 handguards are essentially the same. Since it's plastic, I'd say making it shorter makes it more structurally sound.
I also have the B&T quadrail, but it makes maintenance more annoying and just adds weight for no practical reason (in my case).

>>33738191
> much higher precision
> more lethal 1/10 twist rate
Sounds like a waste of an accurate platform if you can't shoot the heavier 5.56 bullets.
>>33738252
1/10 twist rate out of an 20.5inch barrel is the same as a 1/7 twist rate out of a 14.5inch barrel.
But it reduces wear and doesnt overstabilize lighter bullets so they can immediately tumble and jaw inside flesh.
This kind of violent jawing that 5.56 bullets out of the SIG550 get is part of the reason why they were first banned in the US.
Sigs can be ordered in 1/10 or 1/7 twist rates though...
>>33736599
US made guns or Swiss made guns? No one hates the swiss guns. Literally the only problem with the swiss guns is that they are heavy and you can't get them in the USA.
If you are talking about the American made ones, then they are shit because Sig USA makes piece of shit guns with no QC that aren't this suck as fuck STG90

>This is not a SIG550. The SIG751 is the real fcking nato variant.
No, it's not. It's a classic 550.
Pic related is the SAPR. Which has entirely different proportions, take note of the receiver & mag.
>>33738706
As somebody who owns both, it really is.
Literally the only difference between the 751 and 551 is the caliber.
>>33738764
Not him, but the SAPR is the same as the 751.
>>33738756
>for what purpose
It was just put on like that when I first bought the quad rail. To check fit.
But yeah, I didn't leave it on. I'd only put on a VFG or AFG. Stupid to use a quad for that, when my standard furniture already has a 6 o'clock rail.
>>33738363
>1/10 twist rate out of an 20.5inch barrel is the same as a 1/7 twist rate out of a 14.5inch barrel
that's not how twist rate works
>>33738792
Two more questions on that setup, I'm genuinely curious:
That sight's an ML3, right? Did it come with all those covers (flip up and rubber) or did you buy those separately?
Why do you have a velcro strip behind the ejection port?
>>33738812
1/7 twist rate means, the bullet does one 360° turn in 7 inches of barrel length.
So in a 20.5inch barrel with a 1/10 twist rate the bullet does a little more than 2 (20.5/10) turns.
In a 14.5inch barrel with a 1/7 twist rate the bullet also does a little more than 2 (14.5/7) turns.
Its exactly the same.
>>33738832
>That sight's an ML3, right? Did it come with all those covers (flip up and rubber) or did you buy those separately?
CompM3. Yes, it all came standard.
But I guess a PRO is a better choice nowadays. Usually cheaper & the same accessories should fit?
>Why do you have a velcro strip behind the ejection port?
Because the forceful ejection makes the case tag the receiver & damages the finish. On military weapons, it's common to see the damage (and rust since the metal is no longer protected).
I use velcro because stuff like ducktape will chip away very fast. The velcro lasts way longer.

>>33736599
Yes, I hate it so much I bought it just to spite myself.
>>33738363
Bullet RPM = mass * velocity * (720/twist rate)
No mention of barrel length in that formula, aside from the extra 100fps a 20" barrel will give over a 16" barrel. That extra 100fps will not be enough to stabilize a 75gr bullet out of a 20" barrel, or even a 24" barrel.

Canadian here. Gonna buy one when I sell my jeep.
That being. Said I would love it but might not buy one if the ar15 was none restricted.
>>33739428
That formula makes no sense. According to that formula the RPM of a bulet would be higher, the greater the mass is.
>>33740338
That would be because I'm retarded and read mv as mass * velocity, instead of muzzle velocity.
