Can we British weapons/military thread?
What does /k/ think of their new rifle?
Also, can a Brit explain the rivalry between the Royal Marines and Parachute Regiment, aren't they both just feeders for SBS/SAS?
LMT gud.
Gud. Should of had the longer barrel though.
>>33728614
>Can we British weapons/military thread?
You'll have one for roughly 20 posts, until someone shits it up with their usual anti-brit bullshit. Or some spastic chest beater will claim some obnoxious claim about our kit which'll trigger and piss off a bunch of overly-patriotic americans.
>What does /k/ think of their new rifle?
It's not new, it's a fantastic piece of kit, and it won't be needed outside of Afghanistan.
>Also, can a Brit explain the rivalry between the Royal Marines and Parachute Regiment, aren't they both just feeders for SBS/SAS?
Spent most of my career in 3para. It's just a piss about bit of banter, it doesn't mean anything. Bootnecks and us love to tell people who's better than who. All I can say is that; P Company training kicks out anyone who failed, and is very strict about it. Anyone who failed, cannot reapply, because they aren't the best of the best, and aren't willing to push themselves. In bootneck training, greenie instructers will force you to stay on, and you can repeatedly get down-platooned (pushed down an intake, meaning if you failed something you can retry it) multiple times. If you've somehow failed RM training, you'll be given a set amount of time before you can reapply. You make your mind up on which is the most elite.
A lot of old ex-maroons I've spoken to told me that the para\marine fight thing has been going on since WW2, because they're two different types of "Commando's." Meanwhile, others state the pissabout began during the shipping to the Falklands, during the Falklands war. Where members of 2 para started singing a song to the garrisoned marine onboard. The mentioned song being: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxNkQ3d2cmo
Taking the piss out of the troop of Marines who surrendered straight away after the Argentinians invaded the Islands.
She's finally delivered!
No harm in a good thread. Especially if people go for high end pictures.
>>33728670
They have a more sniper oriented version for the No.2 in a sniper team to use. Pic related.
>>33728705
>and it won't be needed outside of Afghanistan.
It's already in service post Afghanistan in a new role.
>>33728950
The Tide class are absolutely fantastic looking. With four of those 37,000 tonne ships, the two Wave class oilers, the MV Maersk Rapier and the three upcoming MARS SSS ships which should also be around 30,000+, the RFA is in a really good place at the moment.
To give an idea of how much thats pushing, by 2027, the RFA will have more tonnage in its logistics arm than the French, German, Italian, Spanish, Norweigan, Dutch and Portugese logistics arms combined. Thats not to try and push a comparison thread or a chest beating, but just to make the scale of the work going on in the RFA very clear.
Definitely the place to watch, given the Type 26, carriers and F-35 news tends to overshadow it a lot.
>>33729050
Certainly makes the 2025 vision of being able to deploy 50 000 sized expeditionary force all the more realistic.
I know the context of this shot and where it was taken.
Still makes no sense though.
>>33729308
How would you make it, make sense?
>>33728705
>and it won't be needed outside of Afghanistan.
why wont they have a place for a 308 DMR in other conflicts
>>33728705
What are the differences in Parachute Regiment and Royal Marine training, if there are any?

It's 7.62mm NATO.
But you're entirely right, they definitely have a use and they are being kept.

Lolretard. There's a push for more DMRs in general in modern militaries after people realised being able to outrange a service rifle was better than just matching it.
Also since the Boxer deal got scrapped due to Rheinmetall being cunts about production has there been a replacement program yet?
>>33729649
MIV is between Boxer, AMV, VBCI and LAV-V.
No (new) trials have been conducted officially as part of this program yet. They're still listening to what each manufacturer can provide.
AMV is easily showing the best solution thus far though. They've gotten the Warrior's (new) turret with CT40 and Javelins ATGMs onto the AMV for commonality.
>>33729649
>>33729832
FRES... what a fucking joke.
>>33729862
You couldn't find a more mismanaged program if you tried.
Even if Ajax and (if it's picked) AMV are great vehicles in the end, there's absolutely no getting around that the process from "lets replace these vehicles" to "we have replaced these vehicles" is utterly farcicle.
For those not in the know, pic related is what FRES once was, back when it was a program between UK/US.
Should I go regular infantry or try out for Royal Marines or Paras lads?

Challenger 2 LEP program concludes its design prototype phase in 2019, where we'll see two separate submissions. One by Pearson/Rheinmetall, and the other by BAE/Leonardo (I think, I'd have to check).
Qinetic is also trialing MUSS APS on the Challenger 2 in 2018.
Pearson/Rheinmetall's submission is clearly the most ambitious, including the aforementioned MUSS APS, the L55 120mm Smoothbore, a modified turret design that seems to hint at an Abrams style ammunition storage (although that one is extremely vague speculation from one off perspective CGI) and entirely new sights and sensors, alongside a new C4I system.
Also on the cards between them and the opposing submission team is an upgrade to 1,500hp engine, joint-fire control, existing engine upgrades (if the 1,500 isn't taken), suspension upgrades and new ammunition.
Before anyone says it, the CGI image gun looking like an L30A1 is accurate, as the smoothbore for the Challenger is a hybrid gun that uses some aspects of the L30 externally like the thermal sleeve. Got another picture somewhere of it.

Boxer has mission modules that can be added/removed. Allowing Brits to also easily manufacture their own modules possibly in the future. Along with virtually besting the Patria in nearly every category that isn't the pricetag.

>>33729371
Not much from what I've seen (hopefully future RM here). Both do Phase 1, basic infanteering, Phase 2 both focus on advance infanteering, Phase 3 (correct me if I'm wrong) is when training really changes, with Paras doing PCoy; their parachute course that only Paras do as apart of their basic training. There they'll focus on light infantry roles in cooperation with para drops, reflectsd by their final testing of Pcoy which mainly log runs and confidence courses. RM specialise on beach assaults, moutaineering and artic warfare: which explains why they have the longest training in NATO. Their final 'Commando tests' are focused on endurance runs eg the 30 miler. The only real difference is their inmate role, paras are airborne marines are seaborne. Nonetheless theyre both our elite regiments and like to give eachother shit about it

>>33731349
The "karate chop" is the forward assist - occasionally the bolt can fail to engage in battery so you smash it in, essentially. Done whenever you ready the weapon, and as a stoppage drill.
The other guy doesn't 'push' anything down, as >>33731339 says he's closing the dust cover. Which isn't part of the 'Ready' drill.
