Buying a Makarov made me discover an appreciation for this type of simple, straight-blowback pistol.

Can /k/ recommend other quality guns of this type?

p-64, p-83, ppk, also pretty sure astras are straight blowbacks

These, any quality .32 from before WW2, and the CZ-82/3.

So what's wrong with Hi Points other than being really damn ugly? Serious question, I've never shot one.
From what I hear, they're reliable (in the sense that they go bang every time you pull the trigger). Is it their accuracy? Do they break down easily?

>So what's wrong with Hi Points other than being really damn ugly?
Being absolutely, disgustingly ugly.

Also single stack magazines.

Oh, and allegedly the reliability starts being wonky after 4-5 thousand rounds, allegedly, but I've never saw a proof of this claim, just the claim.
>>
>>33724456
Thoughts on the CZ-70? I can get one for $230 out the door. I also already stock .32 for my klob.
>>
>>33724420
CZ-83
>>
>>33724475
IIRC, hi points aren't supposed to be broken down for maintenance. They just work until they don't, I guess.
>>
>>33724574
You can break them down for maintenance, but it's a real pain in the ass. The handguns are worse than the carbines, because removing the slide on the handguns involves removing a steel roll pin than interfaces with the polymer frame. So doing that will eventually ream out the hole the roll pin goes into.
>>
>>33724545
They're also autistically large in their slides.

Save your scheckles for a surplus blow back, .32acp ain't bad.
>>
>>33724577
That's fucking horrifying. What the fuck kind of arms designer thinks it's acceptable to have routine maintenance damage the gun? Fuck....

>>

Literally and pistol based off the walther design. mauser HsC's are particularly cool. Most guns in 32 ACP or smaller are generally going to be straight blowback designs.

I particularly like the Jennings and Jiminez J-22 pistols for what theyre worth. Polish those badboys up, really polish the feed ramp, install new ejector spring/barrel and those things shoot great. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
>>
>>33724614
if you have big hands then you're SOL with the P64, if the trigger weight is the issue then just swap the spring.

You should see the straight blowback AMT backup i got. I can't shoot a full magazine without my hand being on fire. Turns out a tiny gun thay weighs 1 1/2 pounds hurts like a mother fucker. Magnitudes greater than LCP handpain.
>>
>>33724608
>What the fuck kind of arms designer thinks it's acceptable to have routine maintenance damage the gun?

The kind that expects the owner to never do any routine maintenance.

Makarovs are stolen German designs, this thread is rightful deutsch clay.

I'm literally an easy 8/10
>>
>>33724614
this is why I didnt get it. its cheaper, yeah, but unless youre strictly using it for cc then its not a fun gun, mak will do you both and is just nicer.

for 100 bucks cheaper its not a terrible choice but Id prefer something thats fun.

>>33724608
i mean you can just ship it in to hi point for shits and giggles and they'll fix it

>>33724475
the 40 is borderline unusable with how fucking absurd the giant heavy brick on top is, the 380 is very evenly balanced, 9mm is in between
Other than that its just a thing that shoots bullets good enough, doesnt break, and nothing else. Nothing wrong with that, but its not necessarily a feature. theyre actually really comfy in my hand too

LoLoAr pistols are neat.

More likely to find one in 9mm Largo then .45acp but still are neat. I hope to find one eventually.

It is damn ugly. It's the worst thing about it.

Second is that it is oddly top heavy, and third is the weird fucking grips make it a rather uncomfortable gun to shoot. The plastic just gets covered in your hand oils and gets all weird and slimy.

Have they gotten better recently or something? AFAIK, they were known for being pretty unreliable. My dad bought a .45 one for fun about ten years ago and that was my experience, too. It would jam at least one or twice per magazine.
>>
>>33727584

What's not to appreciate? Their sights are perfectly designed for engaging man-sized targets cuffed to a chair, from a range of two feet.

$300 a good price for a Makarov?

I too have just purchased a Snakarov. Bulgy Circle 10. Can anyone recommend me a decent holster for it under $100?

The springs in my makarov mags are massively fucking stiff. Loading them past 6 without the cleaning rod is irritating. Is this normal?

New, unused mags are usually stiff

Just keep using them and they'll ease up

Okay, good. I took them apart and cleaned and oiled them to make sure there wasn't any cosmoline left (there was) and I wanted to make sure I hadn't fucked them up.
