Hey /k/, I need some help to i.d this Luger. It belongs to a freind who dosen't know much about firearms. He was given it by someone. I was hoping for a rough year and caliber. I tried inserting a 9mm snap cap, but the action wouldn't close. Can I assume it is a 7.65x21? More pics to follow.

Crown-over-N is the "Nitro" proof mark.

>>33716500
DWM roll mark, so at least that part of it was made by Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken. It's probably a post-1921 Commercial model.

>>33716545
>It says "Made in Germany" in english. Why?
It's an import mark, from before the ATF made everyone standardize that stuff.
>>
>>33717143
>that guy standing up to these commies with just his Luger

Guter Mann.
>>
>>33716500
A DWM (Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken) production luger
>>33716474
'Crown over N' commercial proof mark, indicating the gun was made for commercial sale sometime between 1920~1922.
Numbers are matching, from what I can see, but I'm not enough of a Luger expert to give more specific information.
>>33716545
It's an export mark, Germany would do this for guns they were exporting to North America.

So doesn't seem like a vet bring back or anything, and was already in the US well before WWII.
As for the caliber, it SHOULD be 9mm Luger, as far as I can tell.
>>
>>33717143
So it sounds like made in between the world wars for a commercial market and was shipped over to the USA. So around what 1920-1922. Thanks. Any guesses on an estimated price? I would think being commercial made during the Weimar era would not be the ideal collectors market.

Examples in good condition go for a little over and around a grand. The example in your pictures has certainly seen better days, so not quite that high.

I put a snap cap in and the action won't close. I looked up the dimentions of both the 9x19 and the 7.65x21 and the 7.65x21 is smaller, so I think that should confirm its caliber. Any opinions?
>>
>>33717385
If you're too fucking stupid to put the end of the snapcap down the muzzle to see if it's anywhere near 9mm in diameter, I just don't know what to tell you.

Honestly, you should just throw that fucking thing in a lake.
>>
>>33717450
NO.
DO NOT THROW IT IN A LAKE.

Just because someone's noguns doesn't mean they ought to get rid of the one.
This is an opportunity to create a hasfuns (or at least make his friend one)

Anyways, OP, it should be apparent as to wether it's 7.65 or 9mm due to the barrels internal diameter.
If you have a 9mm snap cap hold it by the muzzle and it'll be obvious if it's 7.65 or 9mm.

As for the history, a lot of the export ones are built on WW1 production parts, and there are plenty of documented accounts of German in between war police using commercial Lugers.
>>
>>33717525
Obviously I am not going to throw it into a lake. The guy isn't a nogun, honestly he is an idiot savant of gun ownership. He also owns a full auto m16 that he thought was from WW2 that was given to him by a family member. I set him straight. He carrys daily. I think he just doesn't care to reserch what he owns. I am going to try to go to the range to shoot the full auto.

>Some guy was given a full retard m-16, and I'm buying my own guns like a pleb.
>>
>>33717998
Yea, it is almost silly. I know when my dad dies, my brother and I will split his guns up. Both of us are hasgunz and will try to evenly split everything knowing the rough value of it. Not to sell, just to charish and shoot. The little things like the .22 single shot that survived a fire my dad and I reblued in our shead. The first handgun we shot. Both of us will take care of all of them.

But as most of us know, with the value of guns, they are not always given to apprecitive hands. We have all heard stories of WW1 era 1911's being pawned or worse gun bybacks. At least the full auto went into a shooters hand.
>>
>>33717236
In my experience, commercial Lugers made post war are normally chambered in the 7.65 chambering.

That being said, it's not impossible for it to be a 9x19 make. Just extremely unlikely.
>>
>>33717525
>>33717450
So I checked the internal diameter of the barrel with a snap cap. It dosn't fit, so it is a 7.65x21. It may seem retarded, but I never thought to put a round in the muzzle. I have almost no experiance working with guns where I didn't already know the caliber. Thanks for the tip.
>>
>>33717450
Honestly, you should just go throw yourself off a bridge. Nobody asked for your shit opinion or your shit attitude.

>autism the post.txt
>>
>>33718187
Y'know at least when it's pawned, someone who really appreciates it could find it.

>>33716545
Luger pistols were sold commercially all over the western world (and outside too).
>>
>>33718943
Yea, a guess if its pawned someone who would appreciate it could by it. In my experience the people who sell do so at a very high price and the people who can afford it do so for the collectors value. A gun is meant to be shot.
>>
>>33720404
Lugers have always been expensive. Even the beat to shit ones fetch $750-800, and I have only ever seen one sell for under $800. Odds aren't good on that.
