Had to use oil and a nylon hammer to install my gas block. Should have I used sandpaper on the inside of the gas block instead? Or does it need to be a tight fit on the barrel?
>>
I could get it installed
I just couldn't get the nut to budge the last miniscule amount it needed to go to be timed properly, couldn't make it budge in either direction at that point. Further, the collar on the larue nut forced me to only be able to seat the prongs on the wrench a fraction of the way in

I need to hear about how Hoosier and the other guy with a larue rail installed theirs.

$250 is too much, I don't think they're worth what they sell for both used and new because of the older technology. They only get something like 500 hours battery life and I wouldn't put one on a hard use rifle that might get dropped.

But they are very very nice to use. The lens is 100% clear and artifact free, unlike most red dots. The dot module can be changed to ANYTHING from 1 MOA to I think 16 MOA, very cool. The plastic is surprisingly robust, but like I said I wouldn't want to drop one. The sight picture is more open than anything else on the market, it's pretty amazing to see EVERYTHING with nothing in your way, no claustrophobic tunnel effect.

tl;dr If they cost $150 I'd probably have a handful. $250 is too much imo. Also get the non-Tactical version that just has a rail mount, and take out the spacer because it's too high imo.

They cost more, and the integrated sight adds more value to the $230 but imo unless you want that fixed rear sight it's not worth it.

I played with an aluminum one and I was left feeling that, if dropped, the plastic one would be more likely to survive because plastic bends but aluminum does not. Or at least, aluminum doesn't bend more than once.

They're great to use though, you won't be disappointed in that regard. Batteries and mounting solutions may have you shaking your head tho.

Depends on you really, bodies and opinions differ.

I have both mechanisms on this gun and I prefer stock because end plate leaves the stock end of the gun flapping in the breeze. With a stock terminus, the stock is glued to my shoulder instead of floating in front of my face. It's easier to rotate the gun into position when the stock is already in position on my shoulder, or close to it. The tradeoff is that it sits a bit lower.

Looking for part suggestions and a price estimate for a decent 300BLK AR pistol. Nothing fancy or expensive, but nothing crappy cheapo either. The whole reason I came here was to ask what parts to use to keep it cheap but not build of garbage, but apparently the point didn't get across.

No I've been to akg before and they answer questions quite frequently and don't seem to be as hostile, but the elitist collectors and ugly ass builds are annoying. Plus AR's are more practical for a US-fag like me.

Maybe there's something I'm missing here. Is that just a bad combination? Is it unrealistic for me to try something like that? I'm not an expert in AR's, I've only built one and basically relied on the guys at my LGS to do so. I barely know shit about parts brands and realistic expectations out of them. This is why I've come here. But instead I get cryptic replies like this as if 300BLK and/or pistol builds are shunned, and I don't understand why.

Only Sabre made 14.5s to my knowledge. I would've bought one of their uppers but a lot of people have said that their barrels were really hit or miss. And them being out of business I don't want to take a gamble on a possibly nonfunctioning upper with no possibility of support
>>
>>33709252
People are fundamentally disinterested in your build and have no desire to help you because of it
Buy and aero upper and lower, put a larue MBT in it, and a ballistic advantage barrel. Aside from the bolt and the rail, none of the other parts matter.
Also consider asking more specific questions

>why would anyone want this
The pistol is so I can later Form 1 it to be an SBR. The 300 is because it's relatively cheap and easy to reload, and works really well when subsonic, which I plan to put a suppressor on it too. The midrange is because I'm not a richfag or a poorfag, I don't want total garbage but I can't afford $2K just to build the platform. I want to leave a bit of budget for the suppressor, form 1, optics, etc. I just want a SBR is all. I could get a Sig MPX instead because 9mm is easier to reload, but the damn thing is $1700 just for the gun not including the stock and/or brace or optics and magazine availability is a joke. AR's use STANAGs which are easy to find (and I already have some) so it's overall a more practical decision, I just want to find out if it's possible to build one that won't cost me a kidney. Is it too hard to understand that I want an SBR for fun?
>>
newfag to /k/, only recently became interested in the manliest hobby. Assuming I don't feel like driving to the gun store/its out of stock, how would I order online? Is there a really good reliable sight for most things? How do I know im getting a complete prebuilt rifle instead of a ar15 part with a long name and a picture of what it looks like on/in the gun? Looking to buy an AR15 and a glock 19
>>
>>33709252
Well the only reason to go 300 is for subsonic ammo through a can. If you're not doing that, why bother? If you are, you aren't going to be shooting past 100m because it's essentially a pistol round. What's mid-range to you, 300m? Have fun shooting a cucked "pistol" out to those ranges with a cartridge that isn't even as flat as 7.62x39.
>>33709287
>The 300 is because it's relatively cheap
lel no. Stop.

>>
>>33709293

http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-m4-moe-freedom-rifle.html
>>
>>33709252
If you want to build a pistol, you should have a good reason why you're not building an SBR. I have a pistol lower because I go to shoot in Washington a lot.
300blk is a bad round if you don't have a suppressor. Even if you do have one it's less cool than you would think, because the subsonic loads are shooting spitzer bullets at 45acp velocities.
Midrange builds are OK, but there are a lot of them... a looooooot of them....and most of them don't look so good
>>
>>33709264
>budget
I'm thinking under $1700 for the platform, as my other consideration is the Sig MPX, so getting more gun for cheaper is the competition. But if that's not a possibility, that's fine, I'm just asking whether or not it is.
>>33709273
I don't know what questions to ask, like i said I barely know jack. Specific brands or parts that are good for the price? Receivers, barrels, bolts that work well for the money?

I'm a reloader and have a casting setup, and I already have a shitton of .223 brass, so 300 is cheaper than 7.62x39, and I can shoot it out of the same magazines I already have. You're correct about factory ammo though, I never buy that shit.
>300
Yes I planned to get a suppressor after planning out the build, that's the whole reason I want to use the caliber is for suppressed shiggles.
>midrange
I meant midrange price/quality wise, not actual shooting range, I probably should have been clearer. Midrange shooting wise is 100y, my local range is shitty and doesn't go farther than 200. What I really meant was something decent but not expensive, like a Glock but in an AR.
>>33709309
The plan is to build a "pistol" then form 1 it eventually, so it will be an SBR, just not right away. And I will definitely get a suppressor.

There's not much to know about putting AR's together, it kinda comes with the whole modular platform thing. Sure there's little bits and pieces you can get to fit well with each other, or make a monument to how much you want to gargle Bill Geissele's cock. But for a basic well functioning firearm you can just lurk for good deals on assortments of parts.

>Defend the lack of antirotation in URX4
Torqued to as much as 120 foot pounds. You could not get it off in the field even if you wanted to, the clamping force is enormous. It'd be like trying to get a lug nut off a wheel using your fingers.

>Defend gas tube directly exposed to damage as a result
See above, it literally isn't. The only way to damage the gas tube is to be a goof like me and put your weight on a wrench while the gas tube is still installed. And then ignore the sound of crunching metal for awhile.

Literally impossible to do this in the field. It's almost impossible to do in armory too unless you're an giddy.

The gas tube fits through a 1/2" x 3/4" hole, even if the handguard walked a little, it still wouldn't touch the gas tube. And if it did touch the gas tube, it would stop, not damage it.

Now go after something that actually matters, like installing taper pins, weight or cost.

They're a little fragile. If you have an M-LOK rail, you need to be VERY careful about t-nut allignment cause you can easily gouge it.

how can the threads of an upper receiver hold up to that? Isn't the mil spec upper range around 80 ft/lb?
>>
>>33710056
Ahh I see. Yeah, people over tightening the locking nuts when clamping it down seems to cause the tabs to overstress. I think MI fixed that issue in gen 3 rails.

I love the way the rail feels though.

Yeah, I don't know, it was definitely scary to install but nothing broke and my jaws didn't mark the receiver so I guess it's okay. My torque wrench maxes out at 90 ft lbs so I just got a breaker bar and went nutso until it lined up.

Mil spec barrel nut is 30-80 ft lbs.

You should always lube threads when you're trying to torque anything, it prevents binding and false torque readings.

What you use to lube is almost inconsequential, but you should use something
