gas masks don't do a hot job of neutralizing radiation without a full haz suit, and even then you best only be in it for a short while

Yea, about that, i have some bad news for you....

A gas mask prevents you from breathing in radioactive dust, this heavily reduces the dose you get from alpha and beta active nuclides, it also takes fuckall space so it's the least fallout protection you could do really

The best thing would be a self-contained breathing apparatus with an air tank, that way you don't inhale anything.
If you use a mask a 40mm filter will block a lot of shit but some stuff can still get through, industrial filters are a better bet than NBC filters for most use. However, an NBC filter will still protect you from a lot of dust and smoke. Better than nothing.


Also while the masks themselves are safe, don't buy Ivan filters, they're all confirmed to contain asbestos now.
