Truman shouldn't have let the Commies think we'd give up Korea without a credible threat, and should've kept the US Army beefed up enough to handle incidents like this in Asia. Too bad Korea wasn't worth making the war larger. It was sideshow compared to the threat of the Soviets invading Western Europe, which was what the USA really cared about. Anyhow "we'd give up korea without a credible threat" was related to backroom shenanigans running all the way back to yalta at the very latest. Truman probably had a hand in everything, but to pin him up is hardly fair when the marine corps had as much to do with it as anyone else.

Eisenhower dropping the bomb is one of those what ifs that expand so far outside korea that it kind of doesn't matter whether you talk about korea or not. Korea was effectively the first U.S. puppet regime post isolationism (phillipines is weird), and the first successful communist puppet state outside of europe. For example, South america was more or less a mirror of the kim il sung/leewhatshisface paradigm for decades on both sides, and a different outcome in korea would mean a different approach from both sides right in America's backyard.

MacArthur was in Japan, not Korea.

The general on the ground was Ridgway, who did not think nukes were needed and was actually competent. He also reversed the UN retreat once MacArthur was removed.

While flying with live weapons is not that big of a deal now the weapons back then could produce a nuclear yield if the conventional explosives were set off by a crash.
