>go to Academy
>they let you fingerfuck all the guns you want before any paperwork
>they assume youre a decent person and not a criminal or anything
>fill out 4473
>clear background check
>pay for gun
>they escort you out of the building like youre a criminal and dont even let you touch it until you leave the building in fear youre going to shoot up the place
>this is policy
only at Academy folks
why do they even sell guns if theyre going to act like that?
>>
>buying guns at big sporting goods chains

You deserve it.

>>
>>33665973
The real question is: Why would you buy firearms from Academy in the first place?
>>
>>33665997
>Going to an lgs
>Paying 25% more than any online retailer
>Not just using them as an ffl
>>
>>33666000
dubtriptrips confirm.
>>
To cover their own ass... It's fucking stupid... Even worse is if you actually manage to buy something from walmart you have to wait for a store manager to walk you out and hand you the box outside the doors... Most of the time at academy they walk the gun to the register and then as soon as your card clears they don't give a fuck...
>>
>>33666000
>>33665997
>>33665996
my lgs only keeps like 10 guns in stock because they arent doing so good since Trump won
if you dont want a glock or an olympic arms they have to order it for you and it takes like 3 fucking months.
>>
>>33665973
Insurance, dumbass.

That's also why most ranges have dumb rules like "max rate of fire = 1 shot per second."
>>
>>33666018
my walmart dont do that they just hand you the gun in a box after you pay for it
but I would expect that shit from walmart rather than a sporting goods store
>>
>>33666022
Order online and transfer.
>>
>>33665997
this, I overpaid for my Maverick 88 by about 60$ purely because I bought it from the little rinky dink place a little ways outside town rather than wal-mart because I'd rather have a nice conversation with the old guy who runs it while the 4473 goes through rather than then have some register jockey treat me like a serial killer for having an interest in firearms.
>>
>Dicks sporting goods
>filling out paperwork
>5 managers come and stare at me
>>
>>33666043
this desu
I dont mind overpaying a LITTLE bit if Im buying it from someone who knows their shit and actually treats me like a human bean
>>
>>33666041
I dont like to wait okay?
>>
>>33665973
They do exactly the same thing at Cabela's.

Don't have academy in Oregon. Shit we just got Cabelas last year. This all sounds like shit. People around here just get guns and ammo from small gun stores. Big box stores are over priced as fuck.
But Oregon has $10 background checks so it works out.
>>
>>33666077
They don't
>>
>>33666067
don't like to save money either apparently
>>
>>33665973
i've never shopped at Academy, much less entered one: but, isn't this standard procedure for buying a gun at a big-box sporting store?
>bought a long gun at sportsman's warehouse
>gun counter employee walked boxed gun to the register, and then outside once paid for

>bought remington (pre-remshit status, back when they were actually decent guns) shotgun at walmart
>got walked out with walmart slave holding the box until we were outside the store

>bought revolver at scheels
>ran my 4473
>salesman had to hold the box, but was chill with stopping by ammo dept before heading to register
>was able to walk from the register while holding gun/ammo like a free man

my go-to advice for big-box stores like those is to get all your other shopping done prior to buying a gun if you can help it, or just buy the gun and nothing else
>>
>fuck, need some ammo real quick
>go to Academy
>we need your drivers license and phone number
>its rifle ammo. not handgun
>still need your ID and phone number
>i'm fucking 30 years old. i look fucking 30 and i dont want you calling me
>we have to get that info to sell ammo
>FUCK YOU!

why do they want you personal info so much?
>>
>>33666111
>double trips
Kek has blessed me
>>
>>33666077
The Cabelas in AZ has 6 background check registers and always has a line.
Its not possible to walk every person out, they hand you the box and you leave.
>>
>>33666126
So you don't come back and buy it all.
>>
I welcome the basspro that's being built here. what started as an LGS that was nice now grew into the gun monopoly of the city so if you want to buy fucking anything beyond a pump or bolt gun, you gotta go to them.
hopefully the basspro will provide some pressure and unfuck the local market

The Cabela's in my city is one of their smaller stores. They only have 2 at the counter. They escorted me out when I purchased a Mossberg 500 from them and I have seen others escorted out as well. It must vary from location to location.
>>
>>33666126
>Stores wanting your email/phone number
I just say no thank you. That usually catches them off guard enough to skip that step in check out. If they are persistent I just act like I'm going to leave and they usually end up selling it anyway. I've only had to cancel a purchase once.

Shitty business practices honestly.
>>
>>33666126
Good, never ever give them your fucking number.

I made that mistake at Sears once and despite me telling them to take me off the list, they kept calling every now and then until I got a new number for other reasons. They're going out of business now anyways, but if I'm ever asked again I'm either refusing and walking out or just giving them a bullshit number if for whatever reason I can't just buy whatever I'm looking for somewhere else.
>>
>>33666126
>purchase ammo at academy regularly
>never once been asked for ID or phone number
>22yo, look like it
>has happened the same way in three different states
You sound like a liar
>>
>>33666484
maybe its a texas thing
>>
>>33666542
Not him, but I live in Texas and that has never happened to me at any Academy, not even the ones in Austin.
>>
>>33666582
happened to me at Harker Heights and Round Rock
>>
>>33666743
Do you look like a baby faced child murderer or something?
>>
>>33666743
That's weird... The Waco one doesn't unless you buy like 10 boxes or something... Still kind of shitty...
>>
>>33666743
>Harker Heights

That's probably just a thing that they do at that particular store due to the demographics, they don't even do that at the Academy off of St. Johns.
>>
I used to work at Academy, the only time they ask for your number is when purchasing a firearm in the event they need to call you back after a delay or you fucked up your 4473
>>
>>33666963
>That's probably just a thing that they do at that particular store due to the demographic

what do they have against the Army?

why the fuck would you ever shop at a LGS and not online. It's 2017 ffs!

>why the fuck would you ever shop at a LGS and not online

>>
I stopped buying at academy when they wouldn't let me dry fire. the other employee who I purchased through was cool about it especially when I made it clear I would buy it. last time I went I was like if I like the trigger I'll buy it and they were like sorry its academy policy. so now I use LGS.
>>
Wouldn't know. I exclusively use my local pawn shop.
>walk in and ask if they can even get a kimber stainless 2 custom
>"sorry buddy, I'm gonna have to call a few distributors and see. Kimber is usually pretty uptight"
>no problem man, thanks
>48 hours later get a phone call
>"Mr. Anon, your kimber is here. Nobody comes in looking for those so we figured you really wanted it. Had it overnighted. We're closing early today but we can hold it for you."

This is a shop that usually absolutely requires 50% down on all special orders. That's fucking service.
