Someone could come at you with a Coonan 1911 in .357 magnum with a capacity of 7+1 or so and it would be entirely possible to win that firefight with a 1911 of the same capacity in .45. If anything's going to decide that fight it's who has their gun in their hand first, and this is the case in most firefights.

For most people owning a fully-automatic firearm would probably be of little practical value since it would chew through ammunition and do little else. Would be great fun and I don't think we should stop people if there's no compelling reason not to.

For this reason I think there should be some kind of barrier to entry for acquiring FA firearms.
