Any way for a poorfag to put together a decent trench gun? The real ones are expensive as fuck. I've been considering getting a Mossberg 500 and replacing the furniture and adding a heat shield, but that still isn't cheap. Would building a Remington 870 starting from a stripped receiver make more sense? Pic absolutely related.
External hammer or it doesn't count.

There's nothing really to "build" from an 870 reciever. I'd just get a police trade in and go from there. I also think that norinco makes a trench gun reproduction.
They literally sell mossberg 590s w/ heatshield from the factory. Buy one, put on wood furniture, close enough for a poor fag.

Let's not make the perfect the enemy enemy of the good.
>>33661691
Thanks. Any recs for furniture?
norinco makes a direct copy of it, heatshield, wood, and all. Ithink you can even mount a bayo to it if you want. theyre only like $2-300 on gunbroker if I remember right.
>>33661776
Are they good guns? Is the action reasonably smooth?

No it is not. I like my hands firmly attached to my arms. That being said, I thought Norinco made decent guns.
>>33661776
No longer importable because of bayonet lug and shoulder thing that goes up.
>Sporting purpose
One could get an IA model 97 Cowboy and a repro heat shield and sword bayonet, but it will not be cheap.
>>33661931
>Implying it isn't sporting to spear a charging boar on a bayonet
>>33661778
Wrong kind of furniture. Google is giving me nothing. It's all plastic tactishit.
>>33661722
Not him, but I have a 590SP (the one with the heat shield and bayo lug) and I bought some furniture from Numrich.
Got lucky and it was pretty well matched and in decent shape.
It was also significantly cheaper than say from Ebay sellers. ($40 vs ~$150)
Keep in mind you'll have to get the correct size for the action tube (It's the 8" one).
Here's all the links you'll need for that gun anon linked here >>33661691 to have pic related

For ~$500 you can have an 8+1 shot modern take on the classic trenchgun.

I guess senility affects most of the elderly sooner or later.
>>33661669
Cimmeron makes one to and it's pretty good quality.
You can also get a model 12 for less than 800$ if you look around.
>>33662278
The end cost seems to be about the same as converting a Mossberg only you get a gun that is functionally inferior.
>>33661777
I have one, it's decent-ish.
The heat shield didn't fit perfectly and I had a gunsmith mill it slightly to get it snug.
The bayonet looks great, but falls off when you shoot the gun, not sure what to do about that.
Otherwise, the action is smooth, feeds well, very satisfying to shoot.
>>33661833
The norinco is probably safer to fire than original ww1 and 2 trenchguns. I wish I could find one because I don't want to risk blowing up a 100 year old gun
>>33662921
The Mossberg includes a heat shield and a bayonet lug that properly worse. The choice is clear imo.
How dare you. This is a treaty violation!

There's a used IAC "Cowboy" 97 for $300 at a local shop. Would it be worth picking up to make a repro trench gun?

HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRr
Not all of them, you fucking dumbshit
Are there any commonly reported problems with the Norinco ones? I worry the bolt will break or something and come flying into my eye.
>>33665236
maybe he's blind and needs to stick them with the bayonet first to insure proper shot placement?
>>33661669
expect to be investing at least $750 for the shotgun, a proper heat shield (east taylor), misc. hardware, and bluing. you can do the fitting yourself if you have any mechanical aptitude.
>>33662974
can confirm
>>33665447
i have a polytech, it's tough as nails. bolt face and bore are hard chromed. has a screw-in choke. metallurgy is good, on par with their AK. the norinco shouldn't be much different.
>>33665550
Probably gonna go the Mossberg route. Less accurate, but half the price and I know those things just work.
>>33665550
>>33662974
I have a Norinco 1897 and bought one of those repro trench gun heat shields. It doesn't fit properly (even with a gunsmith doing it), so my bead is canted quite a bit.
>>33666546
Which repro heat shield did you buy; the good one from East Taylor or the shit one from IMA?
>>33666567
IMA's Indian-made bullshit.
