They were sold off and handdd over to a bunc of colonial holdings and were probably eventually scrapped because the loading system is dumb and ammo became scarce.

Berthiers aren't that expensive, and there's usually some carbines floating around gunbroker for roughly $300-$500

Got my M1907-15 m16 Berthier with all matching serial numbers and a nice bright bore for only $475

Unfortunately a down side to owning one of these great rifles is the lack of ammo or clips

I'm not certain about Lebel rifles
but I know Berthiers will have a little "N" on the top of the receiver somewhere if they've been converted to allow the more modern 8mm lebel rounds of sometime in the 1930's I believe

Fortunately the MAS-36 didn't start getting expensive until recently. Weirdly enough, one of my local LGSes was selling a MAS-49/56 for $1800, and I suppose it sold because it's no longer there (in fairness, it was in pristine condition and came with a ton of accessories, but still...), but then turned around and sold (to me) an equally-nice MAS-36, complete with original sling, for just under $300. Go fig, right?

That looks like a Gras. I would still pick it up, even though you wont be able to find ammo for it. Ones in that good of condition tend to go for a bit more than the price that one's listed at on gunbroker.

It's a Gras, and the rear sight looks original which would make it the 11mm black powder one (if I'm correct). Stock also looks refinished so I wouldn't pay over $300 for it.
