as a 1911 fanboy
>never jams
depends on brand and ammo, all 1911s are not
made equal.
>never wears out
somewhat true, once again brand needs factoring in here, some 1911s dont age well
>never breaks
kimber says hello
>shoots .45 acp
while a potent cartridge, its still not the best imo. 10m>.45>9m>.40>357S

I think so

My 1911 never jammed, then i decided to splurge on some not shit-tier steel case ammo and got that winchester 230gr "T" fmj. turned out it was FN FMJ. never had a single failure with JHP or ball, but that FN managed to give me a failure to chamber...

>more accurate
>more aesthetic
>best trigger
>OG low bore axis
>best aftermarket
>best manual safety ever

So while OP is just shitposting (remember kids, ironic shitposting is still shitposting) what's a good 1911 if I needed it for self defense? I'm in the market for a 1911 since I have both striker fired and DA/SA semiautos but no single action only and I want something that looks American as fuck.

Now I don't actually need it for a self defense gun but I want something high enough quality to function as one and I don't want a picky competition gun that runs fine at the range but can't handle just a little muck.

Looking at a TRP but the foreign parts irritate the shit out of me. Also looking at a Dan Wesson, specifically the specialist since it has a rail. Idk if the price difference between the specialist and TRP is worth it to me though and I'm worried the dan Wesson will be so tight it requires a more extensive break in period.

If i had the money and was going to bet my life on a production 1911 it'd be a dan wesson. they generally speaking have a rep as the best production 1911s out there. The only guns that major manufacturers put out there that are going to be given more(or probably as much lol) individual attention as them are going to be the ones that go through their custom shops.

OTOH if you want to slum it the cheapest 1911 out there that id consider to truly be a good carry gun candidate would be the SR1911. Has pretty much every small refinement that a carry 1911 needs(even comes with nice novaks) besides maybe a bobtail, but those have pros and cons. maybe im biased since thats what i carry, being a poorfag and all.

That being said, there are also plenty of RIAs out there that run like a sewing machine too and i dont mean to disparage them, they're simply rougher around the edges and seem to have more frequent reports of lemons. not to mention most if not all aren't guaranteed to feed HP ammo.

I feel like the bottom line with any 1911 is to expect to have to put some effort in to either getting them running perfectly or keeping them running perfectly. they tend to be a bit more needy/finicky than some modern designs.

>Never jams
It sure can, if you limp-wrist it.
>Never wears out
Literally anything that deals with friction will eventually wear out.
>Never breaks
See above.
>Shoots .45 ACP
Everyone knows the 1911 is chambered in .38 super and absolutely nothing else, you absolute madman.

Dan Wesson is great, although Colt is just as good. Current production, anyway. Springfields are supposedly made in the USA now, but they buy the forgings from someone else and they won't reveal who. RIA is great if you don't care about fit and finish, and if you won't mind sending it in for warranty service. I wouldn't carry it until after 500 trouble-free rounds.
