I've come to the realization that even though things were quite tough in my early 20s I still made it and thus white privilege. I didn't find success in the business world alone and privilege has a lot to do with my success to be honest..

I was three during the surge in 07-08. I worked with IP and IA units and sometimes their version of corrections. They all overwhelmingly said it was way safer during Saddam and just short of saying it was better all around, no power outages, food shortages, water shortages.

They are all lazy as fuck, don't show up on time if at all and aren't willing to learn or have any pride in themselves or their units.

The only guy that had any semblance to American ethic was a translator that worked as an engineer on oil tankers and had seen the West as a civilian. He worked with the British during the initial invasion in 03 and started working with us in 07. He was seeking asylum and denied by both the US and British in 08. In all reality he has probably been hunted down and killed by now.

Well this difference in perspective is because you live here in the US where Sunni Arabs are far more likely to be your "ambassador" to the MENA.

Whereas Shia Arabs and the Kurds in Iraq were happy to see us because they spent a few years getting gassed and bombed (for the Kurds more like a few decades) by the Hussein regime.

So of course Sunni Arabs in Iraq are going to be butthurt that they are no longer part of a minority led government and they are going to tell you their perspective on the toppling of the regime.
