Am I the only one who thinks an AK-47 is a piece of junk? I rarely jam on my AR, even if its dirty, and the AK has horrible handling, the safety is a bit dodgy too. Id take an M4 or an AR-15 over an Ak anyday

My opinion is that the AK is a wonderful rifle, but even the best AK on the planet is not worth more than $500-600. It's a cheap rifle designed to be placed in the hands of millions of illiterate conscripts, and continue functioning regardless of incompetence.

This is not putting down the AK in any fashion. As I said it's a great rifle for the purpose it was designed for. I just can't see myself ever dropping a grand on a rifle just so I can pound tent stakes in with it.

Not just muh handlin though. My SLR has sharp ass corners everywhere, the stock is designed for someone under 5'4", replacing a trigger had me cursing for 2 hours, and it's heavy as fuck so shooting long strings offhand past 25y isn't much fun.

That side charging handle is the best feeling every though, and I love the smell of burning Hornady 7.62x39 powder so much I'd buy it in a cologne.

But for something I had to do for 4-8 hours a day? AR15, all day every day.

perhaps it wouldn't be worth more than $600 if American manufacturing wasn't absolute garbage. it's a beautifully engineered rifle, and a properly made one with high quality furniture, be it wood or whatever else, easily worth $1500 or more. there are plenty of Nazi guns out there that aren't half as good, and plenty of people think they're worth twice that for shitty milled reproductions. historical value and nazi fetishism still don't make up for it, imho.

Huh, after I replaced the stock on my M70 shes been pretty great. No sharp edges or anything.
My biggest complaint is that for some reason the wood she came could probably be classified as balsa wood so I got that shit off as quickly as possible. The biggest thing for me that elevates to AK over the AR though is just the ease of maintenance. There's nothing really small or easy to lose track of to deal with.

sure you can engage and supress at that distance, but when your grouping becomes larger than a man sized target, then it stops being a group. next your gonna say an AK can hit at 800 yards, when the group is the size of a barn. fact is, you cannot consistently hit a man sized target at 500 yards with an AK, however in the world of military where you're spending 1 million bullets per enemy killed, the AKM is servicable for combat at 500M, although every military that has money has gone to 5.56 or 5.45, because it's really not ideal.

How about the whole quote?
>Easy one, AR, that’s not even close. That 7.62×39 is a devastating round. It’s going to go right through a lot of stuff — it’s really freaking bad ass. But ergonomically, the AK-47 is just not sound — that’s a conscript army freaking gun. To me the AR is just a more professional platform, and there’s a lot more you can do with it. And when it comes to accuracy … if you have a good barrel and good ammo, you can group at 500 with that thing easy.
>>
>>33635156
Okay, but how often have you fired it in circumstances that are actually likely to jam your gun? Sandstorms and blizzards and such?

That's where it really shines--it's not a coincidence that sand dwellers use it so much. Of course on the range your AR won't jam anymore than an AK will.
>>
>>33635295
Muzzle energy is usually measured in ft. lbs.
or "foot pounds"
>>
>>33636730
I'm a Burger. Believe me when I tell you that the foot-pound is a shit unit. NASA can't even use that shit, because it's a measure of gravity, and it's not constant across different elevations.

This is 4chan. The greatest wizard autist in the history of the world quantified gravity. We should at least use measures of energy based on his work.

TL;DR: Fuck foot-pounds. Use a joule.
>>
>>33636803
it literally doesn't goddamn matter when you're not actually doing math involving shit like "how many joules/ft. lbs of compressing force can X handle", muzzle energy is just a number that tells you nothing besides how much power cartridges have relative to each other so we could measure it in the mass of dicks for all I care.
>>
>>33635156

I dunno. I've fed my Opap some trashy ammo in janky mags and it's never failed. The AK is not as accurate or effective at extended ranges as an AR for sure, but if you're engaging someone beyond 300 or so meters it'll be more potshots than anything with both guns. I also doubt I could bash a face in with an AR stock or clean one by throwing it into a river. I enjoy a rugged rifle good for fucking up both people and animals, and the AK fits perfect.

Really it boils down to "What do I want my gun to be good at?" There is no real "better" option.

VEPRs are nice for an AK but that's like saying a '63 Mercedes 230SL nice for a classic car. It may be the best built, highest quality example among its peer group and it might operate in a familiar enough fashion to not turn away those who have only operated modern equivalents, but it's still objectively inferior to anything else you can buy for $100,000 (seriously, Pagoda Mercedes' are stupid expensive) unless you're buying it as a collector.
>>
>>33643803
>but it's still objectively inferior to anything else you can buy for $100,000
What can you buy for $900 thats objectively better than a VEPR besides an AR? The only example i can think of for your dumb assertion is a high quality bolt action rifle which may be slightly more accurate. Maybe 1/2 inch at 100 yards. Everything else is either objectively worse or noticeably more expensive.
>>
>>33644564
Different anon. I'd take a PTR91 with a rail over a VEPR, although I'm probably going to pay $1000 for it.

Then again I'm going to spend some more for a dovetail mount on the VEPR anyway, assuming I can find one that fits it weird spec.
