If it's really that bad id probably go out to the state park within 15min of me with literally dozens of sealed 1940s-1970s bunkers and break into one with a dremel tool and a half dozen disks. Gonna need a lot of bug bombs though, i've been in some of the other ones kids have cracked open over the years and those fuckers are FULL of creepy crawlies. I know some that are really off the beaten path there(the vast majority are on vehicle accessible gravel roads), some of them even have smaller holes that could be possibly modified into firing ports. I figure some other people will have the same idea, and we could likely form a moderately sized community to defend our relatively kush location(dozens of lakes, maintained fields, woods) as there's plenty of room to support a rather large population and the gravel roads could be easily destroyed/barricaded to control access. Worst case scenario i could stockpile supplies, weld myself into one of the more remote bunkers, and try to wait out the worst of any raiders/famine/disease. Major problems would be getting water and removing waste. both might be handled with a little modification to existing drainage/ventilation systems and some good ol redneck engineering.

Some electrician can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think most of your devices not plugged in would be fine. It's the long cables that are going to pick up the EM wave and overload.

Also, if they know it's coming, major electricity providers could try and turn off transformers and the like to try and save them before the storm hits our atmosphere.

Someone is likely to have to rerun all those power lines and internet cables though. Some spots in Arkansas was without power for nearly 6 months. That shit was boring as fuck.

EAS had several redundant system specifically for this kind of event (EMP attack, solar storm, etc). The government is still going to function at barebone level and plenty of military installation are EMP hardened as well

Also, afaik digital system and those that utilize optical fiber will be much less affected

this is the part of the thread where I come in and shatter your precious little bullshit TEOTWAKI fantasy by telling everyone that we are not anywhere near as vunerable to a flare/CME or EMP as you think we are.

The Carrington event was a fluke because at that time in our electrical developement nothing was shielded, few things were grounded, wires were smaller and had less capacity to handle an extra load, and nothing was surge protected

1. Solar events aren't front loaded energy spikes like EMPs and thus anything on a surge protector will be protected

2. In fact, anything not both plugged in AND turned on will be fine.

3. The energy released from the sun is in such small amonts in a solar event that it needs hundreds of miles of wires to collect and overload the wires capacity before discharging into homes, where modern breakers should be enough to stop the surge.

4. cellphones, tablets, blutooth , and a myriad of other wireless devices that have antennas, will not be directly affected

5. vehicles will not be permanently affected, not even the new kind with computers controlling everything
