>tfw even in the best operator movies armed henchmen run towards the protagonist one by one for no reason instead of just shooting him
Will we ever have realistic firefights in movies? Or is simply impossible to take on multiple armed people on your own?
>>
>>33620697
>one bad guy lays down suppressive fire
>other two bad guys use bounding cover to move up and flank the good guy

Not impossible just extremely unlikely he'd survive an entire movie
>>
What is Hollywood?

Come on op you know normies dont give a fuck about tactics. They just want to see one badass take on an army of bullet eating grunts. Seeing a realistic tactical exchange would look like ass to normies who just want to see a walking aim bot killing everything that moves. Remember what sells goy
>>
I thought the final scene in the veteran was pretty realistic. The gangsters shoot like niggers but they make active use of cover and cover each others movements with fire as well as you could expect chavs to. The main guy only survives out of luck and advancing aggressively.
>>
This is the only movie I know of that has the protag realistically reload and have to clear malfunctions during a fight. This movie was like one step away of from being perfect.
>>
>>33620780
This movie was like one step away of from being perfect.
Having the henchmen actually use common sense and coordination when in a firefight with the protagonist is a pretty big step tbqh
>>
>>33620697
John Wick is not a good operator film. What are you 12?

If you're gonna go over the top do it with style, like Shoot em' up did.

>realistic firefights
So everyone's crouched or prone behind cover and only move when someone lays down covering fire for them? And most everyone waits until contact instead of initiating engagement?

The fights would take hours, would be extremely repetitive in sequences, and otherwise be fucking boring.
>>
>>33621040
Lel people did that for a long time, you think a Mafia hitman put in earplugs before hosing down an apartment with a Thompson from his model A Ford?
>>
>>33621040
>2 man stand off against a police force
Also, that was something that actually happened in LA, a few years after the movie was released.

>>

As other anon said, ear protections are very recent in the firearm history, generations of gangsters did it and they certainly still do it.

Also they were 3, 1 was killed and another wounded, I'd say this firefight is one of the most realistic.
>>

>>
>>33621282
Because they foolishly tried to drive away slowly. They shouldn't have stuck around like they did.

Anyway, it doesn't work out so well for the guys in Heat either.
>>
>>33621282
Never watched Heat but the North Hollywood guys didnt manage a single kill
Normies wouldn't like a film if it accurately depicted the real event
>>
>>33621313
>the North Hollywood guys didn't manage a single kill
We can never truly know what exactly they were thinking, but they had ample opportunity to waste a bunch of cops at various points, so I was always of the impression they were just suppressing them. Especially when they had those officers pinned behind the cars, they were so exposed you'd have to actively try NOT to hit them, so I suspect that was the idea.
>>
>>33621313
>Normies wouldn't like a film if it accurately depicted the real event

No idea if it was made for tv or what but there actually was a movie about the North Hollywood shootout.
>>
>>33621040
They're being extremely aggressive and performing a textbook center-peel against police, who aren't trained for true firefights.
Notice the police are paralyzed in cover, using low-volume single shots (both a result of training and not wanting to hit civilians) while the heist crew are pouring automatic fire while cover eachothers retreat.

What's unrealistic about it is how well trained & drilled they are, they're like former SF guys rather than bank robbers.
>>
>>33621040
Because no one has ever had an armed stand off with police while outnumbered

2 were killed and 1 wounded. The whole reason they had to break contact was because they're driver got shot in the face.
>>
>>33620723

This.

It's Star Wars all over again. Storm troopers are always talked about their superior marksmanship, then they always seem to be retarded when the time comes for them to use their skill. Reason why, cause it's a movie, if they did shit the real way, Luke would of died and the movie would of ended in the first movie.
>>
>>33621295

They're also drugged out of their minds. So I see why they didn't think about leaving sooner.
>>
>>33620697
The only movies that had the protagonist think outside the box to overcome realistic threats were 80s movies, maybe early 90s.
>>
This one is pretty good

>>
>>33621365

That's not too far fetched actually. People who aren't psychopaths and who haven't received military training have a very hard time killing people unless they're in DIRECT danger.
There's a really good British documentary about the subject, sadly its name escapes me for the moment.

>>
>>33620697
>>33621017

To win a fire fight, you need "relative fire superiority"
It could be just outgun enemy with more gun, outrange enemy with long range weapon (like that in Heat), or use ground to provide advantage, or you got to move around so you only fight a few enemy at a time (like that in vetern) Well. John wick just knows where enemy is and he shoots them like in a 3 gun match.

Second, it's hard to film a proper gun fight.
If enemy take cover and move around, flanking the protagnist, viewers would look at the enemy came out of nowhere and feel confuse.

And the geographic of the arena could also be confusing for viewers to figure out.

Michael Mann also pulled in Andy McNab (former SAS) to instruct the actors, and made them practice the scene over and over again in a mock-up of the street before actually shooting on location.

They cased the joint ahead of time too. Pretty much did everything but actually rob the bank in the name of authenticity.

its more to do with time. anyone being actually serious isnt going to rush balls first into a firefight like this, without planning or anything. anyone who DOES, might make it a fight or two but ultimately dies early. so its a compromise, do what looks more visually interesting.

ANYONE who has survived and participated in more then a few crazy firefights has probably years in boring, uninteresting prep work and planning before shit went down. no one wants to watch the 12 hours of planning that happened before the 6 minutes of a siege in a 2 hour movie.

but fuck would it be shocking and sudden if a movie just did that, showed the heros going gung ho and just getting wasted by simple smart placement. could make a cool cold open in a movie, the apparent heros loading up and rolling out only for a boring well placed swat team to plink them all off right away

the movie even acknowledges this: those Stormtroopers were probably ordered to just put up a good show and to let Luke and pals leave so they could get the better objective: location of the rebel base for a death star drive by. Was gonna make my own thread, but this one is relevant enough I guess.

The movie is War Pigs and it was okay up until this point where you can clearly see the barrel of the M1A1 Thompson is obstructed by some device (which I assume is there to improve feeding with the blanks). I mean, it's such a small thing, but it bugs me so much that I'm not sure if I want to finish the movie anymore.

So, I guess, post more minor details that movies get wrong about firearms that bug you.
