The US military is apparently looking for a new rifle for future use, or at least is likely to in the future

Did Karl & Ian just invent that rifle?

>polymer receiver/stock/grip assembly
>1/8 twist pencil profile barrels
>a bunch of stuff they bought on Amazon

So they get no credit or income from it at all.
Really got that 2030s aesthetic to it

They are just making fun revision on a gun that was imagined with the most cutting edge materials at the time.
This has carbon fiber hand guard and a nice setup they can improve upon.
If they manage to chamber it in 6.5 Cuckend that will be even better.
I dont know why you guys are buthurt.
"it looks like a competition gun" phase does not hold water because any reasonable industry like car industry for example use motosports like F1 to improve on mass produced cars.
3 gun or precision shooting is equivalent to that and it is not unreasonable for us to see horizontal distribution of tech since we hit a plateau in firearm technology advancement.
>>
>>33618820
It needs a collapsible stock before being taken seriously. I also doubt the military would give up their ACOGs, so it'll be a bit heavier than what they said.

I'm realllly conservative when it comes to what I'll put on my rifle.

But unlike ARs tricked out with all the latest meme gear, this actually makes me think of a real future weapon ... enough of a leap from the Armalite Rifle that I really could see stuff like this fielded decades from now.

It's something more than just throwing 2-3 /arg/ meme accessories on a basic rifle... it's O P T I M I Z E D
>>
>>33618820
No, the military is looking at 6.5 LSAT like guns to replace the M4.

The marines might go full retard and buy a bunch of M416s right before the LSAT program matures.
>>
>>33618820
Not gonna lie after watching that I kinda wanted to build Karl's rifle...especially after he said "5.4 pounds".

Also does anyone know what optic Ian has got on his?
>>
Bumping this bread because the other one on this exact topic is cancer.

Well Jim Sullivan seems to be working on something new that looks promising for mass deployment.
Recoil management and optics is the name of the game.

no problem bruh

I'm definitely gonna do a build like this. I got a poly lower ready to go.
>>
If you were gonna build one of these with a collapsible stock, what stock and buffer tube would you use?
>>
>>33620908
Nothing with tungsten core that for sure because of the wight,so some hybrid hydraulic buffer I know Colt has tested some of those.

Check AK ROF.

They did more than just change the ROF on that AR.

It isn't even a product you can buy, it's an R&D prototype.

By that logic the AK is just the soviets lagging behind the Maxim gun

Speaking of /k/ youtubers, Brent0331 would agree with that. The dude loves the ACOG.

I like the idea of a lightweight rifle but I wouldn't use this if I got dropped off in combat fucking hell

Especially without buis. Still as a civilian and someone who isn't in combat I like light rifles.

Yes goyim! Use a polymeme lower to fight for Israel!
>>
>>33627522
yeah, I like everything but the lack of BUIS

I live in a chilly area and its easy to get stuff fogged up
>>
>>33628167
I think it's pretty arrogant for guys like Ian and Karl to say buis arent needed

I mean yes modern optics are really good but there is far more to go wrong than a simple piece of material, and lots of soldiers run back up sights. Some even choose a backup optic but it's the same principle.
>>
>>33619149

I'm in the process of ditching an A2 profile midlength to a pencil carbine upper.

#nofatrifles
>>
>>33627522

Yeah, but it's looking at it from Stoner's perspective in 2017. Of course its not going to be up to par since AL lowers and FF tubes have decades of use.
>>
>>33618928
>6.5 LSAT like guns
Only the LMG is advancing in design well from what I understand though
>>
>>33618820
multi-material barrels not an option. What is this the fuckin 1970s carbon-fiber barrels are legit now jeez
