I am not sure. But at my MEPS station there was red carpet in the "swearing in" room, and they guy asked everyone what it meant, like why it was red. He pointed to me and I had no idea and just said it stood for "death", not like in an edgy way, but like sacrifices and stuff. And everyone laughed at me and then he asked what branch I was enlisting in. I said Marine Corps and he goes "yeah, makes sense.".
