Are low velocity handgun cartridges obsolete now that soft body armor can easily stop them?
>>
>>33600915
I guess man
>>
>>33600915
Yes. Hot load EVERYTHING.
>>
>>33600915
Most people who make a living on or otherwise prey on others don't tend to wear armor.
>>
>>33600915
yea, they've been obsolete for the last 60yrs senpai
>>
>>33600915
Shoot them in the face
>>
>>33600969
Even hot loads for 38 special, 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP can be easily stopped by a bulletproof vest. Hot loads for 357 magnum and 5.7x28mm are better.
>>
>>33600915
Do you go around wearing a vest every day?
>>
This is why I only use .44 magnum hot loads.
>>
>>33601009
No, but if I expected to be in a gunfight, I would.
>>
>>33601002
> Even hot loads for 38 special, 9mm, 40 S&W, 45 ACP can be easily stopped by a bulletproof vest

Yeah, by IIIA vests and above.

You planning on shooting at someone wearing one of those sometime soon?
>>
>>33600915

They're just fine for hunting... well actually, no they're poor at that too.

They're inexpensive for target practice and cause less wear to whatever they're fired from, so they aren't obsolete, just not great at killing things with.
>>
Tyrone doesn't have body armor on unless you're the one kicking in HIS drug den door.

Also, body armor =/= god mode. Being shot is still going to incapacitate you. You're not just gonna wade through gunfire.

IMO at least half of the "stopping power" of a weapon is "oh fuck, he's shooting me", and not just the actual penetration and force of the bullet.

So unless you're being attacked by a Jamal who's wearing IIIA and doesn't feel pain or fear, i wouldn't worry about this.

If you're serious about MUH TYRANNY type shootouts, you probably already own a rifle.
>>
No because 99.99% of people never wear any kind of body armor.
Nothing wrong with modern standard defense calibers (9mm, 45acp, 40s&w, etc) but smaller cartridges like 9mm Makarov and .380acp are capable defense rounds in most situations.
I wouldn't call for a resurgence in .32acp or .22lr for self defense anytime soon though.
>>
>>33601075
I'm not planning to shoot anybody, but if you are going to invest in a gun for the possibility that you will have to shoot someone, it is logical to consider the possibility that that someone is going to be wearing a vest.
>>33601159
>They're inexpensive for target practice and cause less wear to whatever they're fired from, so they aren't obsolete, just not great at killing things with.
May as well use 22 LR.
>>33601161
>Tyrone doesn't have body armor on unless you're the one kicking in HIS drug den door.
Counting on your adversary being unprepared.
>>33601162
>No because 99.99% of people never wear any kind of body armor.
It is becoming more common.
>>
>>33601183

No, it's not. Stop jacking off to your oper8or fantasies

So, you wear a vest every day, right? You should be prepared for an adversary with AP capabilities.

Bears don't wear armor aside from their freakish skulls.

>Stop jacking off to your oper8or fantasies
I'm not the one with operator fantasies. I don't carry a handgun at all. That being said, if I did, I wouldn't take a half measure by carrying a gun that only works some of the time.
>>33601201
>So, you wear a vest every day, right? You should be prepared for an adversary with AP capabilities.
Asked and answered.
>>33601225
Good luck with that.
>>33601260
It's faster than 9mm, but not as fast as 357 magnum.
>>
Does anyone know what the soft armor from the old Army IBAs like the groin protector and shoulder DAP things rate at? IIIA?
>>
what about 22 tcm? pls no flaem

Different poster but I have IIIa panel in my backpack. May not protect my head but I got a semi-usable shield on my organs. I usually always have it with me at work, out with friends or in my hiking pack. Not the same as a vest but it does the same job.
>>
>>33600915
Body armor is more expensive than the firearm. Criminals are not known for being boyscouts that plan ahead. The slow moving rounds will continue to be effective until armor is cheap
>>
>>33601161
>being shot is still going to incapacitate you.

Bull. Fucking. Shit.

I have taken 11 different hits while wearing body armor. 4 rifle rounds into a rifle plate and 7 pistol rounds into soft armor, between 2 different careers (infantry then sheriff's deputy). The absolute worst that happened was I ended up with a bruise about as bad as when I got hit in the ribs with a fastball in high school. It hurt, but it didn't incapacitate me or even really slow me down. And that was a rifle round (7.62x54r). When I got hit with pistol rounds (2 9mm's and 5 .40's, all from full-sized handguns, between 2 separate incidents) I literally didn't even fucking know I'd been hit and there was zero injury. Not even a goddamn bruise.
>>
>>33601297
Not tested to NIJ standards but has similar capabilities as IIIA.
>>
>>33601323
Not by much. Bulletsafe IIIa vest is $299. Has a pouch to up it to IV with additional plate.

I stand corrected.

Guess how I know you've never worn a vest?
>>
>>33601469
Of course not. There's maybe 3 people on this board who were even alive when that happened.
>>
>>33601075
>You planning on shooting at someone wearing one of those sometime soon?
maybe he is, you don't know
>>
>>33601470
No problem.

I've got some funny stories about body armor if anybody would be interested.

To start with,
>the 2 9mm's I took were friendly fire. My partner doubletapped me in the kidney while trying to shoot while unassing the squad car, at a distance of about 4 inches, with a Glock 17.
Needless to say once we got back to the office we beat the everloving shit out of him.

And no, 3" magnum shotgun slugs do not cause any more injury or penetration to a dude wearing a vest than 9mm handguns, they simply have too much frontal area to provide the focused energy needed to injure through a vest. Heard that from a good friend who caught one in the gut after surprising the shit out of a hunter on accident. It left a small bruise and totally fucked the vest but he walked away with slightly browner underwear and that was it.
>>
>>33601523
Fuck, guess I'm an oldfart newfag now.
>>
>>33601021
If I expected to be in a gunfight, I don't think I'd show up.
>>
>>33601469
Give me a 9x25 Dillon Glock 40 and I'm still dying just because I'm out gunned. I want a rifle, not a shotgun, not a pistol.

For all other isntances, I can't conceal a rifle (yet).
>>
>>33601587
People really do loosen their bowls in combat do they?

I remember back when I was younger someone told me the food they feed or the mres they give to soldiers make them constipated so they don't shit is that true?
