whats a good amount of mags to have for rifles? how mnay should be kept loaded?
>>33597127
10 loaded mags, more is better
>>33597127
3 desu, you will never need more than that at any given time
Of course, there's little reason to NOT get more...
>>33597154
>6 fills out a SADF rig
>+1 for the gun
>leaves 3 mags to play around with if you load 10
Like MAYBE 3, you don't want to damage your springs, do you?
>>33597164
>SERF rig
>just stuff the rest of it with snackbars
>>33597127
As many as you think you need. I'd say at least 10 for your "main" rifle
No, keeping them loaded will not wear out the springs.
>>33597127
10-12 I'd say
Enough to cannibalize for parts and more than you'd ever carry
20 where you have 10 unopened ones in the back of your safe
>>33597127
I think I have 40-50 mags for my sole ar. 10 is where i'd feel like I was borderline. 20 would be my comfy minimum per rifle.
30 or 40. If you're a high volume shooter being able to bring hundreds of rounds preloaded will give you the most efficient
range time.
>>33597242
>1,500 rounds loaded into mags for my AR
yes please.
I know everyone is off-guard because Trump is president, but don't give up just yet.
>>33597154
Honestly you could get away with 2
>60 rounds of whatever meme cartridge you use
Unless you're hunting whale or gay pride festivals, you won't need more
As much as you can
>>33597165
Springs wear out from being compressed and uncompressed many times.
Springs staying in a compressed state wont wear it out
Sitting on 700 rounds loaded in mags, goal is 2k+ greentipz, fmjs, and soft points, all color coded.
I go shooting with 2 10 round magazines, to keep the motions more fluid, and work on muscle memory.
>>33597127
>whats a good amount of mags to have for rifles?
Anywhere from two to five-ish per gun, or whatever number you'd ever realistically carry at one time. More is fine, but it seems like wasted money to me.
I like to have lighter mags for regular plinking I normally do, and keeps me aware of how much ammo I'm using. And I just like manipulating my guns.
>how many should be kept loaded?
all of them unless you have some specific reason not to
"As many as you can carry"
Minimum
6 mags for a carbine
4 for a major caliber rifle
3 for a pistol
And something to carry them in, of course.
30 for long guns
12-20 for PCC and pistols
10 USGI loaded with .223 for my A2, 6 30s +1 20rd lancers for my 300blk pistol. I have a handful of 10rd mags for range use so I don't wear the springs. I want to double that count over the next year.
>>33598795
>30 for long guns
Why would you ever need 900rds loaded up at once... for each long gun you have?
You could buy another 1000(cheap AR mags)-3000+rds of ammo per gun for the amount you wasted on mags per gun, just to sit and collect dust since you probably only grab a few per range trip.
What a waste.
At least a half dozen per firearm...marked/numbered
>>33599652
>marked/numbered
for what?
>>33599709
marked for projectile type
Numbered so if you have multiple of identical type and one has an issue you know which one
>>33599709
This would also be applicable say if I had multiple AR-15's with different twist rates and want to remember what mags have what grain projectile
>>33599745
>marked for projectile type
I guess, although I've always just eyeballed it or left shotgun mags with the ammo type up if it's not obvious. I don't shoot that many types of ammunition except for my shotgun.
>one has an issue you know which one
I usually just have a marker with me anyway, and would throw it in the trash right then and there pretty much if I didn't trust it. There's nothing sacred about mags, surplus or not, and they're not expensive.
>>33597127
Hi commando bob.
For shtfteotwaki you need a full battle load out of magazines.
>6 in your chest plate carrier rig and 1 in the gun.
>1 ohshit mag in your battle backpack
>An additional 6 mags in a separate backpack carried by your reloader
>both of you carrying enough loose ammo to fill all the magazines twice after they are emptied.
>1 day supply of food
>1 clean pair of socks
You'll be attacking the enemy constantly. Don't listen to anyone talking about gray man or other hokum BS like that.
I instruct my fire team to forego things like camping axes and instead get tactical tomahawks for splitting the enemy's skulls.
Again,you'll be constantly attacking.
Common calibers are ideal. .223 +p and .300blk are common rounds for use with silenced tactical operations.
If enough people carry them, you'll always have enough ammo to scavenge.
Hope this was helpful.
>>33599782
Of course you can visually inspect mag/cartridge...but if I have 20 P-Mags that look identical on a shelf and want to grab just the ones loaded with 69gr boolits, I see no downside to marking/numbering the mags...it's quicker with no downside. I also wouldn't just chuck a mag in the trash immediately. My mags for one of my pistolios are almost 40 bucks a pop. I would rather tweak a feedlip if necessary than chuck it...or designate some for fun time (sporatic issues) and some for serious time (100% freshness)

This
We are in a good position for the next 3 years
We need to strike while the iron is hot
>>33597172
But what KIND of snackbars.
>inb4 CLIFF bars
>>33599776
>>33599840
That makes more sense.
My shooting is all pretty boring when it comes to ammo types. I shoot normal fmj or easily distinguishable painted tracers 99.9% of the time.
I shoot a lot of calibers, but rifle so it's easy to tell apart.
>>33599813
>.223 +p
>for use with silenced tactical operations
what are you saying? operators operating operationally use .223+p for silenced operations?
what?
>>33597127
The more you can have as spares, the better. On your home keep 3 of them loaded and rotate them weekly to rest the springs and keep them from loosing tension.
>>33597127
I only have 3 mags loaded, but i've got 15 total for my primary rifle. IF you're going to need more loaded, you'll have time to load them because you'll see it coming.
Reminder that soldiers on patrol in warzones carry 5 to 7 loaded magazines, in comparison.
Basic rule I have is 7 magazines for use, 8 extra magazines for backup and parts.
>>33599893

>>33597543
At least I arrived at the same conclusion after lots of research by a wary new owner.

Not counting my one lo-cap mag that I use for the range (easier for bench shooting), I have 7 for my AK, none currently loaded. 4 surplus steel, 1 romy drum, 2 magpuls.
I have 11 for my PTR, none loaded. 7 alum, 4 steel. Mixed manufacture.
The only other mag-fed rifle I have is a 10/22 with 3 mags.
Glock I have 6 mags, 2 loaded. 5 OEM G19, 1 OEM G18.
All my other pistols have 1 - 3 mags, none loaded.
My wife doesn't like me leaving loaded guns around and I fell for the over-penetration meme, so that's why I only have a loaded G19. I keep it out of sight and out of mind for her, plus I worry slightly less about shooting my neighbor if Jamal breaks in.
>>33599500
b-because everyone only goes out and shoots 100 rounds at a time R-right guys.
nigga when I shoot its several thousand rounds in a day at least I don't want to be wasting all day reloading.
>>33597127
i have 23 for my ar 12 loaded, i need to get more since im building a .300 memeout
106 for my ptr with around 15 loaded
5 for my vz2008 all loaded
>>33601326
Well, you are the 1% of shooters, or even rarer.
Most people have no amazing excuse to have that many.
Your fingers must be sore as hell after you reload all those mags.
>>33597127
A combat loadout is 7 mags, 210 rounds. That's the starting point, gotta at least have that covered. 15-20 is probably what you really want
>>33601481
7 magazines is pretty heavy. I'd say 5 or 6.
>>33601451
>Most people have no amazing excuse to have that many.
I fucking want that many. also fuck people who come to classes without 2k rounds ready to go loaded up. Fuck having to wait for people to reload shit. wastes valuable class time.
>Well, you are the 1% of shooters, or even rarer.
no he isn't. hence all the people saying 20+ in the very thread.
>>33597127
I dunno, I've never really had to worry about it. I got 9 in my mag carrier, and a 60-rounder in the rifle itself, so.
>>33597127
ALL OF THEM
>>33601326
Nice...I need to get some AK drums
>>33601508
>7 magazines is pretty heavy
Do u even liftbro?
>>33602937
what shelf is that?
>>33602937
Dude, nice.
>>33602949
Restaurant style wite rack shelf
>>33602961
*wire
>>33602949
Looks like a standard wire rack from Home Depot. Probably $20 to $60 depending on size.

I can't come back from that.
Good job, nerd.
>>33603103
Nothin personal kid. Just try to be more careful next time.
>tips fedora
>turns 360 and teleports away
>>33601326
This. I shoot a min of 500 rounds every range trip. Of course I only have time to go once a month.
>>33601326

>Left out in full view.
It's like you guys are advertising "Come rob me of all my ammo".
>>33597127
1. All of them.
2. All of them.
however many can fit in the pouches of your gear
As many as you want.
I just buy mags when they pop up for cheap.
>>33599877
Eat a snickers. You become a lil bit like Isis when you're hungry.
>>33597127
As many as you can carry, any more is pointless.
I've got a dozen for each rifle and I keep four loaded.
If I need more than that, shit has gone really wrong.
